Darren Appleton - Great Britain

Darren Appleton wins the first Beassy 9-Ball World Class Open

In a match that was packed with excitement and thrill, Darren Appleton (GBR) defeated Sandor Tot (SRB) with 9:6. Appleton wrote history today. He is the first winner ever of a Beassy event.

The match was equal until both players had three points in their account. At that time, I was a bit disappointed since I thought Id given some racks to Sandor because he had made mistakes and I didnt punish him for it, said Appleton. From then on, Appleton took the lead and never gave it back again. The best Tot was able to do was closing in to a score of 5:7 in favour of Appleton. Tot just played too aggressive and went for shots where he should have gone for the safety option. In the 15th rack when the score was 8:6 in favour of Appleton, Tot scratched and Appleton had a 2-9 combination shot lined up. I just struggled a little bit to get over the line, was Appletons comment when asked about this combination shot since he missed it. It was not an easy shot but it was hard to get position from the 3-ball to the 4-ball. Later on in that rack, Appleton got a good roll by hiding the cue ball behind the 7-ball when he attempted a safety shot. That won me the match, analysed Appleton afterwards. It is important for me to win this title. It gives me good confidence for the US Open that will come up in two weeks time and I am the defending Champion there.

British Wheelchair Tour 2011 ends with British 9 ball Championship in Wavertree

This has been a very exciting year for Britain's wheelchair pool players, with a total of 23 players playing in at least 1 of the 4 events so far, Roy Kimberley is guaranteed to retain his no 1 ranking, but its neck and neck between Tony Southern and Aslam Abubaker for the 2nd spot, with Tony's maiden win at the August 'Mersey 9 ball Shoot-out' giving him a slight edge.

The tour welcome's players of widely ranging ability, it's not too late to join, and the best news of all - new players to the tour get their first event FREE!, and soon will be publishing its 2012 schedule.

The two division structure that means that non-elite players can battle amongst themselves in the "Challenge" division as well as having the opportunity of matching themselves against the top players on the tour - so if you love playing pool and you'd like to join up, no matter what standard of player you are, contact the organisers now.

Ralf Souquet and Beatrix Dobossy, Owner of Beassy Ltd.

The Kaiser left no doubt he wanted that title

In a final match that was dominated by one player only, Ralf Souquet (GER) subdued Marcus Chamat (SWE) with 8:2.

Like in the whole tournament, Souquets victory was never really in danger. He played rock solid and left no doubt to anyone that he really wanted that title. The early stage of the match was determined by safety play from both players. Chamat had to struggle from the very beginning to keep pace with The Kaiser. Souquet took a quick 3:0 lead over Chamat. Then, Chamat seemed to play the better safeties for a while and that made him win two racks in a row, making the score 3:2 for Souquet. From then on, it was only Souquet pushing the button for win on the score computer. The 10th and final rack summed up what had happened before. Both players were engaged in an intensive safety battle but Chamat scratched while attempting to pocket the 2-ball. He did not need to ask Souquet a second time whether he wanted to win the title. Souquet took the match and the title of the Dynamic Hungary Open Euro-Tour 2011. It is Souquets third win this year on the Euro-Tour after Paris and Treviso and he is now leading the Euro-Tour overall rankings.

I dont know whether Im on the summit of my career, said a modest Souquet in an interview after the final match. I am happy with my achievements these days but I am a perfectionist. I always try to improve. At 42 years of age, I am looking forward for a few more good years. This tournament, I had one match that was close. It went hill-hill. All other matches, I really dominated my opponent so I think it was ok for me to win it. It was definitely ok, Kaiser!

Jayson Shaw - Scotland

Gray and Majid also leave the tournament

Jayson Shaw (SCO) defeated David Alcaide (ESP) in the round of the last 32 with 8:5.

It was amazing to see how equally strong two players can play. Both of them showed high class pool and made only few to no mistakes in the beginning of the match. However, when the score was 5:5, Shaw as well as Alcaide seemed to play a bit too careless. Safety shots were executed worse than normal and it was Jayson Shaw who accepted the gift, taking a 6:5 lead over Alcaide. In the 12th rack, Alcaide missed an easy 1-ball and was punished twice since the cue ball scratched in the side pocket. Shaw ran that rack and also the next one with his own break to win the match with 8:5. In the next round Jayson Shaw will face Philipp Stojanovic (CRO) who eliminated Mark Gray (GBR) from the event with 8:5.

Huidji See - Netherlands

Huidji See defeats Bence Varga - but World 10-Ball Champion not on his A-game yet

Reigning World 10-Ball Champion Huidji See (NED) defeated reigning European Straight Pool Champions Juniors Bence Varga (HUN) with 8:5.

The match was determined by many errors from both players. Unusual shots were missed from Varga as well as See. Both players started out equally. That goes for the good shots and the bad shots as well. When Varga was leading 2:1, he scratched while pocketing the 9-ball. Instead of taking a 3:1 lead, the score was then 2:2. But See could not really profit from that. In the very next rack, he missed an easy 3-ball and brought Varga back into the match. Varga seemed to be able to benefit from that and achieved a 5:3 lead over See. In the 9th rack, it was Varga to break. He pocketed three balls and even had a shot at the 1-ball. That was a big chance for Varga to take a three-rack lead over See. But he missed a makeable 1-ball. That was the turn of the tide for the Hungarian youngster. See played like substituted. He took a 6:5 lead himself. In the 12th rack, See missed a 2-ball after playing bad position for it. But instead of getting an advantage out of that, Varga also ran out of position for the 4-ball and missed it. He was not able to take one more rack off See. The Dutchman won the match with 8:5, sending young Varga to the one-loss side.

Maria Catalano ends Reanne Evans' 90-match unbeaten run on snooker circuit

The 29-year-olds historic 3-1 victory came in the semi-finals of the inaugural Northern Championship at the North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre, Clay Cross.

Catalano, who went on to beat Hong Kong s Yu Ching Ching 3-1 in the final, said: Im over the moon to get a win over Reanne, really, because its been such a long time. Weve had quite a few close matches, to be fair. She started off really well as she normally does. Then the frames went a little bit scrappy. We both missed a couple and I just managed to pot a few more than she did.

It wasnt a fantastic match but any win over Reanne is a good win. So, Ill take it.

Catalano, Ronnie OSullivans cousin, and seven-time womens world champion Evans both live in Dudley, West Midlands.

Pool chalk purchase pays dividends for customer at The Pro Shop

A simple order for a couple of twin packs of Longoni's Blue Diamond Chalk earned a lucky customer at Pro9's Pro Shop an incredible bonus... At odds of 550 to 1, the first balls drawn for Friday's EuroMillions draw produced the Main Ball No.6 and Lucky Star No.6 to earn a fantastic 3 day Pay-Per-View prize for the lucky winner.

The epic race-to-100 match between two of the world's top Ten-Ball players for a cool winner-take-all cash prize of $20,000 finished the first day of play with South Dakota's Shane Van Boening leading by a slim 35-31 margin over Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan.

Alex won the lag and the first rack, but then trailed all the way to 7-4 down as Shane dominated the table. Pagulayan needed to make the match a bit more technical with more safety play to prevent Shane from just running racks, and that's exactly what he did, tying Van Boening up in knots with some supreme safety and position play, taking the Filipino a 15-11 lead, and then an 18-14 lead. Alex continued to lead, 25-22, 26-24, but this margin was not to last, and as the night ended, "The South Dakota Kid" ran-out a massive seven-pack (rumoured to be spurred on by an impromptu side bet offered to Shane for running out the remainder of the match, by "Dippy" Dave Peat). Running seven straight racks certainly made an impact on the first session's scoreline, as Van Boening finished ahead by a 4 racks - a useful margin on this tight pocketed Diamond table.

Taking place in the new TAR Studio located in Las Vegas, play continues through Saturday and Sunday featuring 3 high quality cameras with operators following all the action, with superb commentary by veterans Billy Incardona and Jay Helfert, and you can still buy PPV access to what is rapidly becoming the most talked about match in recent times.
