Hohmann wins $350,000 at IPT North American Open!
The most historic event in pool history has just concluded with Thorsten “The Hitman” Hohmann winning $350,000 for his double-hill victory over “Marvelous Marlon” Manalo.
Complete with Michael Buffer announcing his trademark phrase, modified for the occasion to “Let’s get ready to rack ‘em!” the IPT’s first major event was an unqualified success. Two of the best players in the world performed in front of a wall-to-wall crowd, and the set was classy and striking. Manalo had chosen Jose Parica as he corner man, while Charlie Williams was in Hohmann’s corner.

Final Six Set to Battle at the IPT North American Open 8-Ball Championship.
Eighteen players came into Friday’s rounds with high hopes, but only six will return for Saturday’s matches. Peach, Appleton and Diks progress to $30,000 matches - Hill and Hundal out!
The hatchet came down on half of the 36-player field after Thursday’s last round at the North American Open 8-Ball Championship. The brutal, five-round format killed off 18 players who earned $17,000 for their 19th-place finishes, while 18 remain to attempt to carve out a bigger piece of the incredible $2,000,000+ prize fund.

O'Sullivan, Morris and Boyes out, but Peach, Appleton, Hill and Hundal advance.
Yesterday was a pretty bloody day in Las Vegas, but there's still plenty of European talent winning through to Round Four of the International Pool Tour's North American Open in Nevada.
16 Europeans advance to the Group 4 stage of 36 players, but much to the sadness of his millions of fans, Ronnie O'Sullivan finally bowed out after acquitting himself very well in his first professional 8-Ball Pool Tournament. So many hopes were pinned on the snooker superstar's chances but ultimately he succumbed to yet another particularly tough draw.

O'Sullivan scrapes through with the finest of margins.
The second round started with 120 happy players! Twelve hours later, the field was cut in half. With a $5,000 difference in the payout between Tuesday's and tomorrow's rounds at the $2,000,000+ North American Open 8-Ball Championship, play was tight and contestants were tense on the event's second day. Only eight players went undefeated throughout today's round, including three Americans: David Matlock, Nick Varner, and Charlie Williams.

From L to R: Rob Chiltern, Pete Williams, and Martinho Correia.
A strong field of 21 notable players assembled for the 4th IPT Satellite Qualifier Tournament, hosted by American Pool Network at Rileys Solihull. Special thanks must go to Ann Bernie and her team of providing a great club and for being such welcoming hosts. Strong English 8-ballers Andy Barnett and Rob Chilton came to try their luck on the bigger 9ft tables. They were joined by a plethora of top 9-ball stars including Martinho Correia (winner of the last 2 satellites he has entered), Gareth “Darkside” Esprit (previous finalist), Steve Higton, Stuart Colclough, and Mark Stephenson amongst others. Also a mention to Darren Mills, Jami White and Matt McClean who all made their debut tournament appearance here in Solihull.

25 July 2006

Days One and Two, which make up the first official round of the International Pool Tour North American Open, are now in the history books.
The IPT has sent home 80 of the original 200 players who showed up for its North American 8-Ball Open Championship, with only 120 returning for Tuesday's matches. Monday began with 100 of the world's finest players, but 40 were eliminated through the grueling round-robin, race-to-8 format. With five rounds throughout the day, players had to play four matches to determine whether or not they would advance. Every player in the tournament so far has played a minimum of eight hours on their day of play; many players played ten or more hours.
