The top American pool players in Britain will be starting their campaigns to become the best in the land when the GB 9 Ball Tour returns to Daventry for the 2011 Midlands Classic from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th March.
Now in its fourth season, GB9 has come an extremely long way since its inception in 2008. Last year was the first time that national 9 ball tour events have ever been hosted in hotel venues, with GB9 establishing a partnership with the Barceló hotel group. The tour kicked off in Buxton this time last year, and also visited Blackpool and Daventry along the way. Now featuring 144 of the most talented players across Britain, Europe and the World, GB9 has played its part in cementing the reputation of British cueists on the American cuesport international stage.
Almost £190,000 in prize money has been distributed since the first GB9 event in 2008, and the 2011 season will see a record-breaking £63,500 being fought for by GB9 members. Those newly qualified to the tour this season will be looking to make their mark, whilst the established professionals look to defend their positions within an ever expanding pool of British talent. The GB 9 Ball Tour introduced an innovative format to British tour events back in 2008, catering for the nation’s international elite as well as the rising stars of the game.

WPA World 8 Ball Champion 2011 - Dennis Orcollo - Philippines
Dennis Orcullo on Top of the World
Our final day in Fujairah began with a playoff for third place between Darren Appleton and David Alcaide. Alcaide dominated the match as Appleton only came to the table sparingly. Alcaide won 9-2.
Then it was time for the Championship match between Dennis Orcullo of the Philippines and Niels Feijen of the Netherlands. Orcullo won the lag and broke and ran the first rack. It then became the Orcullo break and run show as he repeated this performance over and over until the score stood at 5-0. Orcullo had to play in local qualifiers to get into the tournament and he was making the most of the opportunity. When he broke the rack in game 6 he scratched in the side pocket and Feijen had his first opportunity.
Feijen polished off that rack to put his first mark on the board at 5-1 down. He then suffered a dry break but left a tough run of balls for Orcullo. Orcullo had to bank the three ball cross corner to get his run begun and then had a very tough lay of the land to navigate. He took his time surveying each shot and did a simply marvelous job of getting through the rack with one tough position after another. But he left himself long on the 8 ball and it rattled in the jaws, returning Feijen to the table.

Players are invited to attend the Bunny International Open
What an absolutely delightful pool tournament poster! I have no idea why this tournament is called the "Bunny" Open - could it be a reference to Easter? I honestly don't know. What I DO know, is that this is a long running tournament in Austria with a legendary friendly atmosphere and fabulous playing conditions at Patrick's Canadian Taverne - it's called "The Bunny International Open" and the prize fund is quite inviting too!

Kimberley dominates Northern 9-ball Open
The BWPPA raised the curtain on the 2011 season on the 5th/6th February 2011 with the Dynamic Billiards Northern 9-ball Open held at Rileys Barnsley. The tour was hit by illness for it’s season opener with many of the regular tour players unable to compete due to illness. Despite this the tour got off to a great start with some great pool on show as usual at these events. “the Sandman” Roy Kimberley held onto his number 1 spot with victory in the Main Event. Roy had a tough opening encounter with Welshman Phil Hendrickson which went to a deciding rack, Kimberley’s experience told in the end as he won 7-6, he then had a more comfortably dispatched of Shaun Madin 7-2. “the Sandman” seemed to be on a roll then as he beat Tony Southern 7-5 in the semi-final

Appear in the Pro Tour Career Mode in Virtual Pool 4
Ahhh, Virtual Pool 3... Do you remember it? It was the best pool simulation EVER!!!
Well, now they are making VP4 - and they are inviting pool pro's to be featured in the game's "Pro Tour Career Mode" and the game will include your player profile and even a link to your web site, just like Max Eberle's below...
I think it would be pretty impressive to show potential sponsors a screen-shot of your profile featured in the world's best pool computer game.
Qualification Rounds Over in Fujairah.
Some big names have left for the exits in Fujairah. World 9-Ball Champion Francisco Bustamante was ahead of Daryl Peach 6-4 in the race to seven games and lost that match 7-6. He then had to defeat David Alcaide of Spain to stay alive but failed as Alcaide prevailed 7-3 to send Francisco home. Another much-feared Filipino, Jeff De Luna, has also seen his efforts come to naught after he was surprised by Khaled Al Mutairi of Kuwait 7-5 and then lost 7-6 to Takhti Zarekani of Iran 7-6. Anyway, all of them need the replica watches which are used to camping.
