Milliken expands European outlets

Billiard cloth manufacturer Milliken is continuing to develop its territorial coverage with the appointment of three new distributors.
With current business partners ranging from Beijing to the US, they bring to 25 the company’s international supplier network.
Pool is leading this export drive. In Paris, Bulldog Billiards owned by Dafydd Hughes, is now the distributor for Milliken’s English pool cloth, Strachan 6811, for the 7ft table market.
While further east, Rolandas Gaucys from Bilijardai in Lithuania and Florin Tat of S C Tat in Romania are both supplying Milliken SuperPro for the American pool market in those countries.
“Pool in Europe continues to be a growth market for us,” reports Milliken marketing manager Stuart Gardiner.
“Europe winning the Mosconi Cup for the third time in four years is all the evidence we need that pool is in rude health and expanding.
“Success at this level provides a real stimulus for us as manufacturers because it generates a great deal of player interest in the clubs and leagues.”

GB9 Ball Tour Northern Qualifier Group Results
GB9 TOUR NORTHERN QUALIFIER 2011 Rileys American Pool and Snooker - Barnsley 45-47 Peel St Barnsley South Yorkshire S70 2RL www.rileys.co.uk www.gb9balltour.com
Sunday 16 January 2011
Northern is 2nd of 3 Qualifying Events for GB9 2011 Season
17 Players turned out in Barnsley with approximately 60% of the field qualifying to join the tour in 2011. Whilst it was quite a small field there was a lot of quality so some very capable players frustratingly lost out on Sunday.
However, all is not lost for them. After compiling the full entry list for the Southern qualifier next week where GB9 will again try and give spots to 60% of the field, if there are still some spots available for next season the organisers will revisit the results at each of the three qualifiers and some of the unlucky few could turn into 'lucky losers' to take up the remaining spots on the tour. Anyone who is still unsuccessful will take their place at the top of the reserve list for next season.
The players and groups were as follows - Group 1: Matthew Gleaves, Stuart Ellis, Brendan Leigh, Liam Waterworth, Darran Cooper and Darren Murray - Group 2: Malcolm Clarke, Andrew Croasdale, Elliot Sanderson, Michael Castro, David Smith, and Ian Crosbie. - Group 3: Graeme Clark, Jon-paul Murrow, Edward Fee, Andrew Bingham, and Simon Davis.
Only one more qualifying events remains, this weekends, (the GB9 Southern Qualifier - Rileys Shepherds Bush - 23 January 2011) and entries will still be accepted until 12 noon the day before this ultimate qualifying tournament.

Nick van den Berg wins 2011 Paris 9-Ball Open Championship
2011 Open de Paris Cercle Clichy Montmartre 84, rue de Clichy 75009 Paris www.lcb94.fr www.academie-billard.com www.billardfacile.fr www.opendeparis.fr
Saturday/Sunday 15-16 January 2010
Click the image to view larger photograph (use "back" to return here). 2011 Paris 9-Ball Open Championship
Nick van den Berg had one of those days where everything seemed easy, great breaks, unmissable potting, and the confidence of a champion - producing some epic matches with one-sided results in his favour, and a couple of matches that went to the hill - on Saturday Imran Majid took him all the way, and today it was Raj Hundal's turn to test the man from the Netherlands. Despite these oh-so-close single elimination matches going to the wire, van den Berg's game grew and grew as the final approached, resulting in a penultimate drubbing of his fellow countryman Niels Feijen 9-3 in the Semi-Finals, and a solid 11-8 victory in the final against a tricky customer by the name of Tony Drago.
The more intensely you study the player list, the more familiar names you notice - a very popular event with players from these shores, and it's not just the usual big guns who have made the trip to Paris this weekend. A tribute to the organisers, David Bare and Gael Yard, who invited players to attend the brilliant Paris Open at the elegant Cercle Clichy Montmartre.
Despite no celebrity players receiving free invitations this year, there were plenty in attendance - all vying for a share of the €18,000+ prize fund on offer.
Surprising results were plentiful, as last year's winner of this event, home favourite Vincent Facquet was knocked out comparatively early in the Last 16 stage by Greece's Nikos Oikonomopoulos, and New Zealand's Matthew Edwards has cut a swathe through the best of the field into the Semi-Finals only to be stopped by the speedy play of the other finalist - Malta's Tony Drago.

Tamara Rademakers has been officially announced as the first female Professional American Pool player to be included on the Cue King Promotions roster for 2011. Miss Rademakers from Geleen, Netherlands is ranked No. 15 on the WPBA circuit and is highly regarded as one of the brightest talents on the Women’s tour.
“We are scouting for youthful and exciting Pool Billiard prospects of the future and Tamara certainly fits into this category. It’s been a long and industrious road to find the right female professional player who can carry the Cue King Promotions name to an ever growing and popular division of American Pool. Tamara is beyond doubt the right woman to be an ambassador of Cue King Promotions.” explains newly appointed Chief Executive, Trevor Haythorne.
The deal was completed by CKP’s Head of Marketing Rachel Adams who acts solely as a consultant to the UK based sports agency. Rademakers signs a two year deal with an option for extension for both parties.
