December Return to Pool’s Most ‘Intimidating’ Venue
MATCHROOM SPORT can announce that the 2010 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup will be taking place at the fabled York Hall, Bethnal Green, London from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th December.
Home to the event for a six year period, the Mosconi Cup was last played in the famous East London boxing venue in 2002, when Europe won the trophy following six years of total domination by the USA.
Following a multi-million pound refurbishment of the York Hall, the PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup returns for its first UK appearance in eight years.
One man delighted by the event’s return to London is Finland’s Mika Immonen. A five-time York Hall loser in previous years, Immonen has now established himself as the world’s leading player and will be a front-runner for a berth on the 2010 Euro team.
‘I love the fact that we are going back to the York Hall. What could be a more perfect setting for the Mosconi?’ said Immonen.
‘No memories in my pool career compare to the York Hall. The atmosphere was electric, and I can't wait to see how it is now. It has been my dream to go back there...bring it on..!
Matchroom Sport chairman and Mosconi Cup promoter, Barry Hearn, is looking forward to recreating the wild atmosphere that made the East London venue so charismatic.

Korea's Yu Ram Cha wins in Taiwan
A nerve shattering close call in the quarter-finals resulting in a victory by the narrowest of margins after a hill-hill battle with the USA's Vivian Villareal, was just one of the close calls that Korea's Yu Ram Cha faced on her way to the top of the podium in this most prestigious of annual events, once again sponsored by Amway and hosted in the delightful Taipei City, Taiwan.
Surprisingly for such an international field, the final match turned out to be an all Korean affair, with Yu Ram Cha meeting compatriot Ga Young Kim. This time it was not so close and the young super-star of pool made short work of her opponent with a decisive 11-5 victory.

Delta-13 Named As Official Rack for MBO London Pool Tour
The Metropolitan Billiard Organisation has signed Executive Billiards, home of the Delta-13 rack; as a Gold Level Sponsor for the MBO London Pool Tour.
The long term contract confirms Delta-13 as the Official Rack for the high profile London based pool tour. The Colorado USA based engineering company Executive Billiards will support all MBO tours and events, sealing the agreement in time for the London Qualification Tournaments for the Matchroom Sport World Pool Masters; in Shepherds Bush, London, on the 6th and 7th March 2010.

Five Spots up for Grabs in Asia!
WITH THE PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters qualifying period now underway, Matchroom Sport can announce two further qualifying events in Asia that will offer five spots in total.
2010 sees the Masters field increase from 16 players up to 64, a number that will see approximately half the field invited and the other half qualifying.
The first event takes place on Thursday 18th March at the International Pool Club in Taipei, Taiwan and offers one spot to the eventual winner. Produced by the Chinese Taipei Billiards Association, all interested players are advised to contact Sophie Chen (bact.tw@msa.hinet.net or fax to +886-2-27261130).
The Golden Break Pool Club in Selangor, Malaysia is the venue for a larger regional qualifying tournament that will see four Masters spots up for grabs. This is scheduled to take place from Tuesday to Friday 13th – 16th April and will be operated by XZ Sports (www.xzsports.com)

Roy Kimberley continued his relentless domination of the tour, winning the opening main event of the 2010 BWPPA season at his home club Rileys Birmingham (Essex Street). The tour welcomed a new tournament director Andy Warden and welcomed back Aslam Abubaker, who participated in his first BWPPA event in 3 years, the BWPPA also welcomed a newcomer Darren Staddon.

Snooker clubs giant Rileys and legend O’Sullivan team up to tap into talent
Rileys, the UK’s leading cue sports operator, have teamed up with green baize legend Ronnie O’Sullivan to find the future star of snooker.
Ronnie and Rileys believe they can find the next ‘Rocket’ through a series of ‘Future Stars’ competitions nationwide for under-16s starting 27th March.
Regional events will produce 120 winners, who then go head-to-head at regional venues until 8 players are left standing.
The 8 will attend a ‘boot camp’ in Sheffield during the World Championships where they will be coached by top players in the game.
They will then be put through their paces in a series of skills tests and interviews with Ronnie, who will then choose his winner – and start the process of turning him into snooker superstar!
Along with this top coaching and mentoring by Ronnie, Rileys will provide the winner with a financial package worth £5,000 to support his snooker dreams.
Ronnie said: “Firstly, this youngster will have to love the game. Then, he or she will need pots of talents. And probably most important of all, the desire to go all the way.“
