David Alcaide Claims Predator Gold!
David Alcaide of Spain has taken the title of the first Predator International 10-Ball tour. Alcaide played flawless pool in the final match against Niels Feijen of the Netherlands. Tied after the first two racks, Alcaide then took control of the match and never let Feijen have any opportunity to make a comeback. Alcaide took racks 3, 4, 5 and 6 to mount a four-game lead, then surrendered what would be Feijens final 10-Ball in rack number 7. From there, Alcaide completely ruled the day and easily swept the last three racks for the victory.

Philippines Beat Germany in Epic Final
Philippines B, made up of legendary cuemen Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, delighted an entire nation on Sunday evening at the SM North Mall Annex in Quezon City, Manila, as they came from behind at the death to beat the German team of Thorsten Hohmann and Ralf Souquet by 11-9.
It would be hard to think of a more nerve-wracking, thrilling or tense major pool final as both teams had chances to win and both displayed their awesome skills as well as frailties under pressure.
It’s hard to be exact but there were upwards of 2,000 people watching from every possible angle and the atmosphere in the arena was charged from the start. In addition, millions more were viewing in homes, bars and clubs across the Philippines as the event was aired live in its entirety on Solar Sports and CS9.
“We are very happy because we thought we were lucky. When they were leading we thought we were going to lose as the score was 9-7 and they were still playing easy run outs,” said an elated Bustamante.
“Thorsten’s miss on the 5 ball meant we got lucky and that changed everything. We are very proud to have won this tournament twice.

Philippines A Will Face Tough Match v Germany
IN A CLASH of the pedigreed European giants, Germany, consisting of Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann, held off the late challenge of Holland to book a spot in the semi-finals of the PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool in a thriller at the SM Mall North Annex in Quezon City, Manila.
The match ended 9-7 and the closing stages were highly exciting as both pairs fought for the opening that would give them a run at the finishing line. The Germans broke well throughout while the Dutch matched them with some quality shots.
"Niels was making all the jump shots but the break is a very important factor. We played well and just missed a few positions but luckily we got through," said Hohmann afterwards.

Alcaide Gifts England In Act of True Sportsmanship
ENGLAND have advanced into the quarter-finals of the 2009 PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool after beating Spain 8-6. It was an exciting match with neither team getting the upper hand.
The critical moment came in the 13th rack when Spaniard David Alcaide called a foul on himself when he adjudged himself to have double hit the cue ball.
It was a marvellous moment of sportsmanship as Alcaide was clearly the only person in the building to know what had happened as the ref missed it, as had the English team and everyone else but it was a fine example of honesty from Alcaide.
"David called a foul on himself and the referee had missed it and the players did as well," said England's Darren Appleton. "But I've known David three or four years and he showed what he is all about and a great sportsman."

USA Power Into Quarters
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Team USA became the first side through to the quarter-finals of the 2009 PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool at the SM Mall North Annex in Manila, as the pairing of Rodney Morris and Shane Van Boening held off a plucky Indonesian team 8-5.
The Americans always held the upper hand but Indonesia, made up of the smiling and laughing Muhammad Simanjuntuak and the more straight faced Muhammad Zulfikri, gave it a good go
The defending champs got off to a great start as they won the lag and raced into a 3-0 lead, with Morris and Van Boening looking very comfortable in each other’s company at the table.

England Make Meal of Malaysia
Reigning World 10 Ball Champ, Darren Appleton and partner Imran Majid, made it through to the last 16 of the PartyCasino.net World Cup of Pool as they made hard work of beating Malaysia after a blistering start.
The English pair stormed into a 5-0 lead as they raced through the racks and Majid had an easy 9 ball to make it 6-0 but missed it to give the Malaysian team of Ibrahim Bin Amir and Lee Poh Soon a glimmer of hope.
Another miss by Majid, this time on the 5 ball, gave the Malaysians another chance which they took and things looked even better for them as they ran out the next from the break to make it 5-3.
England relieved the pressure by winning the next but it was an Appleton miss that gave a chance to the Malaysians and they made it 4-6 but it was to be their last meaningful contribution to the match.

Defending Champs USA Given Scare - Plucky Malta Falter at Final Hurdle
TEAM USA, who 12 months ago held the World Cup of Pool aloft in Rotterdam, Holland, edged their way into the last 16 of this year’s tournament following a heart-stopping victory over Malta at the SM Mall North Annex in Manila.
These two nations met at the 2007 World Cup and just like then, the Americans squeezed through by a single rack as the Maltese pairing of Tony Drago and Alex Borg fought them every step of the way and even found themselves breaking for the match.
Instead it was Rodney Morris and Shane Van Boening who clinched victory as Borg’s dry break allowed them to run out for the win.
There was nothing to separate them at 4-4 as the experienced pool player Drago coached his less seasoned team mate through some trickier moments. A break and run in the next followed by a fluked carom on the 9 saw the USA move into a 6-4 lead and when a missed bank shot in the next by Drago left the table on for the Americans, they moved comfortably to the hill.

Polish visitor Piotr Ostrowski won the second stop on the SAPPA Black Bottle Scottish 9-Ball Tour at Reardon's Southside in Glasgow with a comprehensive 10-6 victory over Larkhall-based Scott Gillespie. Ostrowski, who previous played on the SAPPA Tour when he lived in Scotland a couple of years ago, went through the whole weekend undefeated taking some impressive scalps on his way to the title.
