South West Snooker Academy Edison Close Waterwells Business Park Gloucester GL2 2FN Tel: 01452 223 214 www.southwestsnookeracademy.com
Sunday 16 September 2012
How did you first get interested in snooker?
"I've always been interested in snooker, purely because when I was growing up through my sport I was always having to try and adapt my disability to what I was trying to achieve in my sport.
So looking at players and how they have to adapt their own games in order to make it fit around them in terms of how they perform on the snooker table, I felt that could be a challenge that I could look into to try and improve my mental attitude towards my own sport.
Did you start by being a fan?
Yeah I used to watch the World, UK and all the big rankings tournaments on the television. Obviously the game's grown and grown. I used to have a little six foot table in my conservatory and I used to come from school every day and spend hours out there, just potting balls, because it's what I just loved to do and it was something I could do and that was safe when I was younger.
Before I had my surgery and was able to go out, with my legs, it was quite dangerous for me to go outside and do the things that other kids were able to do at that time.
So for me I found something that I was interested in such as snooker and it really took off from there and I started to enjoy the technicality and skill of it really.

The Southern Masters returns to the Puma Court Hotel in Daventry next week as the best American Pool players in the UK battle it out in the latest stop on the GB 9 Ball Tour.
With the tour approaching the close of its fifth groundbreaking season and with the night’s drawing in once again, this penultimate event on the 2012 calendar is the first chance to reflect on another memorable year on Britain’s most intense and hard fought pool tour. Whilst finalised details of the 2013 season are imminent, ranking points and position on the ranking list are as important as ever to all the players on the circuit, not least because the top two players at the end of the season will have the honour of representing Great Britain at the 2013 European Championships, courtesy of the British Pool Federation. The battle at the top will once again go down to the wire, with some new faces already proving themselves to be worthy competitors against seasoned professionals and GB9 stalwarts.
Even though major changes to the Tour are due in 2013, the changes made in 2012 have already had a major impact on competition weekends across the year. Without a shadow of doubt, the biggest change this year has been the full roll-out of GB9Live – an innovative, world class competition data system designed to make the tournament weekend for both players and spectators more fluid than ever before.

Friday - Sunday 5-7 October 2012
Players and draw announced for WP Masters XX
WITH THE 20th annual ClubWPT.com World Pool Masters set for Friday to Sunday 5th to 7th October in Kielce, Poland, the line up and draw for pool’s most prestigious invitational events is announced.
Promoters Matchroom Sport have brought in some of the greatest 9 ball exponents from around the world and the field is headed by reigning champion and six times Masters winner Ralf Souquet and World No.1 Darren Appleton, a Masters winner in 2009.
Other previous champions in the event include Tony Drago (’03), Raj Hundal (’05), recent China Open winner Dennis Orcollo (’10) and Canada’s ’04 World Champion Alex Pagulayan (’08 ).
In addition, following on from their magnificent success at the recent World Cup of Pool in the Philippines, where they won silver medals, the Polish pair of Karol Skowerski and Wojciech Szewczyk, along with countrymen Radoslaw Babica and Mateusz Śniegocki’ will surely fancy their chances of being there or thereabouts come Sunday evening.
There is one female player in the event – World No.1, China Open and reigning World 9 Ball Champion Kelly Fisher of England; and the dangerous Shane Van Boening carries the hopes of the United States.
Working in partnership with the regional billiard organisation, Swietokrzyskie Stowarzyszenie Bilardowe as well as the Mayor’s office in Kielce, Matchroom Sport will be returning to Poland for a pool event for the first time since 2006.
The event takes place at the Hala Legionow, Kielce’s state of the art sports venue and the winner will receive $20,000 from a total prize fund of $66,000.

Billiard distributor giant and manufacturer CueStix International has come on board as the title sponsor of the now Scorpion Cues Johnny Archer Classic! With an all star cast of international billiards stars, the event is going to be one of the biggest events of the year in the southeast as well as the largest in Georgia. Matthew "The Doncaster Destroyer" Lester in action. Pool - The inclusive sport
As the London 2012 Paralympic Games come to an end, the eyes of the world have been on "disability sport" more than ever before. I have competed in various sports over the last 12 years, athletics, boccia, wheelchair snooker and wheelchair pool. Athletics and boccia will be on display at the Paralympics, but I wonder how many people are aware that wheelchair snooker was in the Paralympics up to the 1988 games in Seoul?
I have been involved in competitive wheelchair American pool since 2007, and over the last 5 years I have discovered that our sport has little or no barriers between "non disabled" and disabled players especially in the UK where a number of BWPPA players have at some point have played in tour events or open events with able bodied pros, myself included, and ask any of the top UK pool players to name as many wheelchair players as they can and I would wager most could name at least 5 players. However if you asked that same question to a top professional snooker player and most would struggle to name one.
