| QUALIFYING PLAY CONCLUDES AS FIELD SPLITS TO 64
PLAY HAS concluded on the final day of round one action at the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City , Manila as the 128 man field has been reduced to 64 for the straight knock-out stages of the event.
The most dominant representation comes from the Philippines with 13 players in the last 64 shake up, closely followed by Chinese Taipei with 10. Disappointingly, the USA with an original entry of 11 now only has four survivors in round two.
There are now five days to go in the $400,000 event which is televised live throughout Asia on the ESPN Star network as well as Sky Sports in the UK.

 | Alex Lelys Long Quest for the Holy Grail of Pool - By Ted Lerner |
The World Pool Championship Araneta Coliseum Quezon City Metro Manila Philippines www.matchroomsport.com www.worldpoolchampionship.com www.hey-joe.net www.tedlerner.com
3-11 November 2007
Alex Lely enjoying a beer after the match that promoted him to the final 64 at the 2007 World Pool Championships in Manila, Philippines. INPUT DOES NOT EQUAL OUTPUT
Manila, Philippines -- Some players call it getting in dead stroke. Others call it free flowing mode. Yet others call it being in the zone. Whatever the moniker, it is the Holy Grail of playing for pool players. Its that space where everything seems to come together at once, and you play perfect pool, no longer thinking about the mechanics of your stroke, no longer fretting about previously missed balls, no longer thinking of what lies ahead in a match. You have stopped caring and are just playing, living in the moment, unfettered by outside distractions or worries. Everything is so darn easy; the stroke just flows, the balls drop dead center, the cue ball goes exactly where you want it.

Dynamite Darren Appleton at the World Pool Championship qualifiers A SLOG IN THE MUD - By Ted Lerner
Manila, Philippines -- Its all about the grind, and who has the stamina, the will, and yes, it being professional 9-ball, the luck on their side to prevail. Its a brutally difficult combination of factors to pull together, and it tests the inner and outer makeup of even the most seasoned professionals out there. Well, this is for the World Pool Championship, so why would you have it any other way?

2007 Philippines World Pool Championship - Latest
WITH THE pre-event qualifying tournament for the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship set to wrap up today, its fair to say that proceedings have been dominated by the players from Chinese Taipei.
Taking place at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City, the qualifying event boasted a top-level field of nearly 170 players with ten separate tournaments over five days with the winner of each reaching the main event.
With eight out of the ten events already contested, the Taiwanese have bagged four spots in the main event, with a further six players falling at the final hurdle.
