Team China. (All World Cup of Pool photos by Lawrence Lustig). Solid China Too Good for Philippines
THE CHINESE pairing of Fu Jianbo and Li He-wen proved a bit too much for Team Philippines as they dumped them out of the PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool at the quarter-final stages.
The 9-6 scoreline was a fair reflection of what was a highly entertaining match but the Chinese were just too strong as they stemmed an emerging comeback from Reyes and Bustamante.
China had reached the quarter-finals thanks to an 8-1 victory over South Africa and an 8-6 triumph over France .
In the other quarter final the Finnish duo of 2001 World Champion and Mika Immonen and Markus Juva enjoyed a good victory over dark horses Switzerland , a team consisting of Dimitri Jungo and Marco Tschudi.
However it was the Philippines v China which was the stand out match of the evening session and the Pinoys won the lag but no one could have expected what happened next as Bustamante recorded a dry break, something that had happened only a handful of times all week.

Noel Bruynooghe from Team Belgium in ecstasy after eliminating Taiwan. Belgium and Austria Shock the Giants
THERE WAS a night of shocks in store for the capacity crowd at the PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool at the Outland Nightclub in Rotterdam, Holland as first the Swiss duo of Marco Tschudi and Dimitri Jungo overturned a 5-2 deficit to dump Rodney Morris and Corey Deuel of Team USA out of the competition and then the plucky Belgian duo of Serge Das and Noel Bruynooghe produced a stunning upset to KO the fancied Taiwanese team.
Both sides were huge outsiders but found the necessary heart and skill to overcome what was on paper superior opposition and book quarter final spots.
Switzerland will tee it up tomorrow against Finland for a spot in Sundays semis while Belgium will now really fancy their chances against Canada .
The other second round match saw the English pair of Daryl Peach and Imran Majid lose to a Finnish side of Markus Juva and Mika Immonen 8 - 5, who improved considerably on their first round showing.

TEAM ENGLAND produced a marvellous fight back to make their way into the last 16 of the 2007 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool.
Poland had led 3-0, 5-2 and 6-3 but the English duo of Imran Majid and Daryl Peach then won five consecutive racks to clinch an 8-6 win at the Outland Nightclub in Rotterdam .
They will now meet the Finnish side of former World Champion Mika Immonen and his team-mate Markus Juva in the next round, in a match that will take place on Friday evening.

Wu Chia-ching and Yang Ching-shun from Taiwan. Team Taiwan Show Their Class
TEAM TAIWAN fired out a warning to their rivals in the 2007 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool as the put on the best show of the tournament to date as they blitzed Denmark 8-3.
The third seeds, consisting of Wu Chia-ching and Yang Ching-shun, didnt put a foot wrong throughout and their all-round fluency will be hard to beat.
There was another shock to the tournament in the final game of the evening session as the Dutch B team consisting of Rico Diks and Alex Lely took an 8-2 pounding at the hands of unfancied Belgium , a late substitute for no-shows Malaysia .
Germany , represented by Oliver Ortmann and Christian Reimering, also fell at the first as they were well beaten by the Singapore pair of Chan Keng Kwang and Toh Lian Han.

Tonnes of pool was advertised, and there was definitely value for money in Solihull, as group stage after group stage whittled over 40 players down to 1, in a single day of action that really sorted the men from the boys.
Kevin Uzzell proved to be the man with the necessary will to win (and the staying power) that the demanding tournament format required, beating a very "in-form" Damian Massey with a 6-3 score in the late night final.
