CARLO BIADO CROWNED WORLD CHAMPION FOR A SECOND TIME IN THRILLING FINAL OVER GORST
---
THE 2025 WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIP

Carlo Biado etched his name into the history books once again, defeating defending champion Fedor Gorst 15-13 in a gripping finale to claim his second World Pool Championship title—and become the first Filipino player to ever lift the trophy twice.

“I’m over the moon—I still can’t believe I’m a two-time World Champion. It means everything to me. I’m so proud to bring this trophy home to the Philippines.”

“This final is something I’ll remember forever. Fedor is one of the best in the world—when I was leading 9-2, I still couldn’t relax because he’s a monster on the table. But today, I stayed focused, stayed calm, and maybe had a little luck on my side too.”

Carlo Biado 15 – 13 Fedor Gorst

Gorst opened with authority, quickly building a 2-0 lead before a missed 5-ball in the third rack handed Biado his opening. From there, the 2017 champion came alive. Using a deadly combination of precision safety play and pinpoint potting, Biado strung together a stunning nine-rack run to surge into a 9-2 lead.

A tense safety battle on the 3-ball in rack 12 gave Gorst a much-needed lifeline. The Russian capitalised, running multiple racks to claw his way back into the match. Despite a few faltering breaks, Gorst took full advantage of uncharacteristic errors from Biado, levelling the match at 9-9 and later again at 13-13.

Gorst returned to the semi-finals for the third time in his career after overcoming Austria’s Mario He and Filipino contender Jefrey Roda on Day Five. The American looked composed throughout the day, showing a maturity beyond his years as he closed out both matches with breathing room.

“I’m really pleased with how both matches went today. Against Mario and again against Jefrey, I found a strong rhythm and controlled the pace well. My break got better in the second match and I stayed focused even when I started feeling fatigued.

Reaching the semi-finals for the third time feels really rewarding—like the hard work is continuing to pay off.””

TEAM ASIA TO DEFEND REYES CUP TITLE AGAINST FIRST-EVER TEAM REST OF THE WORLD

A new rivalry is born – The World unites to battle on Team Asia in Manila, October 16-19

The stage is set for an explosive twist at the 2025 Reyes Cup, as reigning champions Team Asia will now face a newly formed and formidable opponent: Team Rest of the World.

The global clash takes place October 16–19 at the iconic Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila, Philippines — and will be broadcast live on One Sports and WNT TV, with further broadcast partners to be announced.

For the first time, elite players from across the globe — including Europe, the Americas, Oceania and beyond — will unite under one banner in a mission to dethrone Team Asia, who captured the inaugural Reyes Cup with an emphatic 11–6 win in front of a passionate home crowd.

Team Asia will once again feature the top three ranked Asian players on the World Nineball Tour rankings, alongside two wildcards. Their opponents, Team Rest of the World, will follow the same format — uniting the top three non-Asian players from the WNT rankings with two wildcard picks to complete the squad.

This seismic change sets the stage for thrilling new combinations and unexpected rivalries, with national and continental pride on the line in the ultimate team showdown.

DAY FOUR OF THE 2025 WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIP

Fedor Gorst’s title defence gathered real momentum on Day Four of the 2025 World Pool Championship, as the reigning champion battled past Jonas Souto and Max Lechner to reach the Last 16 in Jeddah—where he joins a field now dominated by Filipino stars, with an astonishing seven players from the Philippines advancing.

In collaboration with the Saudi Arabia Billiard & Snooker Federation and under the supervision of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport, the 2025 World Pool Championship—the crown jewel of the World Nineball Tour—returns to the iconic Green Halls in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 21–26 July.

Gorst was made to work hard early in the day, edging a back-and-forth encounter with Souto 11-9. But it was in the evening session where the Russian truly stamped his authority, delivering a convincing 11-4 win over Austria’s Lechner.

“My match against Max was probably the best I’ve played all tournament. I made some really tough shots and felt in full control throughout. The break is finally starting to come together, and my safety play is sharper. I’m building confidence match by match—I’m ready for what’s next.”

“I just enjoy my game so I’m not nervous and I feel my confidence is good. I really respect Albin’s game, he’s a two-time champion. But because of that respect I feel comfortable when up against him.

Chua Chases World Title Glory for His Nation

CHUA CHASES WORLD TITLE GLORY FOR HIS NATION
---
DAY TWO OF THE WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIP

Johann Chua stormed into the World Pool Championship with a flawless 9–0 whitewash against Mohamed Al-Balkhi, kicking off his title bid in style and showing that the Philippines remains a force in the sport.

One of the pre-tournament favourites, Chua wasted no time asserting himself with a swift and clinical performance. Yet, despite the scoreline, the Filipino star was modest in his assessment:

“I’m not really happy with my performance — I just feel lucky that I had a lot of opportunities. I’m still trying to adjust to the table, but it’s always good to get that first win. Hopefully, I can keep improving and play better in the next matches.”

Chua also underlined the significance of chasing pool’s most prestigious title—not only for himself but for his nation:

“It would mean a lot to us. It would be a reminder that the Philippines is still one of the strongest nations in pool. As we all know, the greatest player of all time — Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes — comes from our country. So for a Filipino to win this tournament, it would be a proud moment and a way to put the Philippines back on the map.”

Reflecting on his journey over the past year, Chua added:

“The 2024 UK Open was a wake-up call for me. I didn’t even make the Last 64 and was playing really poorly in the first quarter of 2024. After that, I went back home, worked hard, and slowly regained confidence in myself. I had a strong run at the World Championship, then reached the final of the European Open and learned a lot from that loss. I’m really proud that I was able to finish the year by winning the Hanoi Open.”

GORST OPENS CAMPAIGN TO RETAIN WORLD CROWN
---
DAY ONE OF 2025 WORLD POOL CHAMPIONSHIP

Fedor Gorst kickstarted his campaign with a commanding 9-3 victory in his opening match against young star Sam Henderson, securing his spot in the next round of the 2025 World Pool Championship.

Despite going two racks down at the start after a miss on the 6-ball, Gorst found his rhythm in the third rack to take control of the table. The defending champion edged ahead in rack five and never looked back, sealing a composed 9-3 victory to reach the winners qualification stage.

Gorst stated: “I was nervous – it’s been a while since I’ve played a major… But you know, it’s tough. It’s the biggest tournament of the year. First-round matches are always nerve-racking. Sam started really well going up 2-0. It could have been a completely different result. Overall, I’m happy with the way I played.”

Gorst went on: “It feels good to be back as the reigning champion – but every tournament feels different. Coming back as the defending champion, there’s a little bit more pressure. The odds are against me, but I don’t really care about the odds — I feel good.”
