EuroTour Announce New Format In 2007

EuroTour organisers announced at the players meeting in Benalmadena that from the Czech Open in Liberec in February 2007 a new format for the tour will take place.

The top 32 from the Euro-Tour rankings after the Spanish Open will be seeded directly into the last 64 which will mean they will not take part until the Saturday, the rest of the players will play as usual from the Thursday and will play down to the last 32 to qualify for Saturdays last 64.

Entry fees will stay the same for all players except for the top 32 players who will pay an extra 100 Euros, this has to be good news for players such as Daryl Peach, Andy Worthington and Imran Majid.

Cup ends in historic tie : Europe 12 – 12 USA

TEAM AMERICA kicked into gear at the 2006 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup as they finally got their act together to clean sweep the Sunday afternoon team games and square the match up at nine points each with just the singles matches to play.

It was a sharp turnaround as a previously fractured looking unit found some team spirit to turn the tournament around and make themselves betting favourites to retain the trophy.

The opening match of the afternoon was a team affair with all six players taking part and it was the Americans who looked more composed as they completed a 6-3 lead to peg back the Europeans.

Europe take three point lead into final day : Europe 9 – 6 USA

TEAM EUROPE enter the final day of the 2006 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup with a valuable three point advantage over their American counterparts after another day of high drama at the Cruise Terminal in Rotterdam.

Leading by three at the close of play on Friday, team coach Johan Ruijsink set his side a minimum target of sharing the day’s points and maintaining their lead and this was exactly as it unfolded.

Johnny Archer’s American side have an uphill struggle tomorrow as play commences with the team game followed by three trebles matches.

Europeans turn the screw to leave USA in doldrums : Europe 8 – 4 USA

THERE WAS more joy for Team Europe as the Saturday afternoon session played out at the 2006 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup at the Cruise Terminal, Rotterdam . They claimed two out of the three doubles matches to increase their lead to four points and leave the Americans facing an uphill struggle if they are to retain their Mosconi Cup title.

Both captains changed their pairings around from Friday but it was Euro coach Johan Ruijsink who reaped the dividends as his charges delivered the goods to leave their opponents reeling and under severe pressure.

Things started bad for Europe though as the pairing of Nick van den Berg and Imran Majid failed to match their showing yesterday. They went down 6-3 to an assured looking Corey Deuel and Mike Davis to give the USA just the start they were looking for.

Euro whitewash puts them in driving seat : Europe 6 – 3 USA

TEAM EUROPE had one of their best ever PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup sessions as they whitewashed their American opponents 3-0 in the Friday evening matches to claim a 6-3 lead. It was all the more impressive as all the games were singles – an area that has never been the European’s strongest suit.

Team captain Johan Ruijsink’s strategy was spot on as he threw his two rookies out early and backed them up with Ralf Souquet, probably the strongest player in the world this year.

Spain’s David Alcaide opened the proceedings, upsetting the odds as he overcame US Open champion John Schmidt by a 7-5 scoreline. It was an excellent showing from the Malaga-based Alcaide as he fought every inch of the way to secure the win.

Europe square it after 2-1 session : Europe 3 – 3 USA

Team Europe had an excellent Friday afternoon session as they won two of three matches to square the 2006 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup at three points apiece in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Cruise Terminal in Holland.

England ’s Imran Majid and local pick Nick van den Berg were the heroes of the hour as they saw off the dynamic American pairing of Rodney Morris and Earl St rick land in a 6-5 thriller.

The American duo carried a Mosconi Cup record of six wins and no defeats into the match but some uncharacteristic errors from them coupled with nerves of steel from their opponents carried the Europeans over the line.
