 | 2016 Mosconi Cup - Shane stretches lead |

Shane stretches lead as Morris and Dechaine duke it out for third WITH A SPATE of three Mosconi Cup ranking events taking place over the past two weeks, it’s still Shane Van Boening who looks a certainty to be making his tenth appearance in Team USA colours. The South Dakota Kid took top honours at the Tornado Open in Florida to give himself a huge lead 77 point over second placed Skyler Woodward. Van Boening would need to go pointless at the final two events, with the second, third and fourth placed players filling up the top spots for him to miss out on a trip to London in December. Woodward took top spot at Chinook Winds to leapfrog into second spot while Rodney Morris came home in fifth spot, earning enough points to keep in the top three. His lead is the slimmest of the slim as Mike Dechaine finished fourth at the Gotham City 9 Ball Classic to lie one point behind Morris in fourth spot.

And so perhaps the most important season in the history of the sport of pool comes to an end this weekend at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, with the Coral sponsored IPA British Open starting Friday morning and running though to a conclusion on Sunday evening.
As always, three separate blackball tournaments (it’s the rule set recognised by the IOC) take place with the Professional, Amateur, and Open events and £13,000 in prize money up for grabs and as you would expect, the top players in the Word are in attendance looking to show off their skills to their fellow players. Add a watching audience (free entry to all), and the worldwide industry leading livestream that now gets through to well over one hundred Countries (its HD and free to watch via the Coral website., and pool is clearly on the up with the IPA and their players leading the way.
Described by some as “snooker for the people”, it’s the sport we have all tried down the pub or club (reds, yellows, and a black) and really is a sleeping giant, with millions of players around the Country, something Tour Sponsor Coral have recognised, and they will kindly be sending some of their representatives down with “goodie bags” to give away, so if you are down on the South Coast for any reason, feel free to pop in and grab one if you want, just tell them Sean sent you!

Feijen claims first berth on Team Europe HOLLAND’S NIELS FEIJEN is the first man to gain a spot on Team Europe as they look ahead to defending the Mosconi Cup at London’s Alexandra Palace from Tuesday to Friday 6th- 9th December. Feijen, 39, will be making his 12th appearance in the storied event which will put him third on the European all-time list and move him to fifth on the overall roster of total appearances. The Dutchman sealed the deal on home territory as he won the Euro Tour Dutch Open at Leende at the weekend. He held off Mark Gray and Jayson Shaw to finish on top of the Euro Event ranking after the nine-event series. “I’m over the moon! I didn't realize it was already my 12th appearance!” said a delighted Feijen.

 | Dutch Open Euro Tour - Feijen terminated them all |

Niels Feijen (NED) Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. Feijen terminated them all
„The Terminator“ Niels Feijen (NED) just won the Dynamic Billard Dutch Open in Leende, The Netherlands, with a 9:7 victory over David Alcaide (ESP) in the final match.
The final match between Feijen and Alcaide began with a break and run from Alcaide. That was the only time that Alcaide had a lead over Feijen for a long time in the match. Feijen came up strong and look a 3:1 lead over Alcaide. But Alcaide stayed in the match, never allowing Feijen to get away too far. After twelve racks, the score was leveled at 6:6. Then Alcaide even got to 7:6 over Feijen. But „The Terminator“ showed a strong will for victory today. In rack 14, Feijen broke and ran out to equalize the score at 7:7. Then, Alcaide had no shot after his break in rack 15 but he tried to force the 1-ball in. He failed and allowed Feijen back to the table. „The Terminator“ played a safety shot which was not good enough for Alcaide. The Spaniard started shooting, ran out of position and tried to play a safety for his Dutch opponent. Feijen got to the table and solved the problem by firing the 4-ball in with a jump shot and running the table, getting on the hill with 8:7 and his own break shot coming up. He had the 1-ball down in the side-pocket but could not pocket the 2-ball anywhere. So he came up with a brilliant safety shot which gave Alcaide no other option but try to hit the 2-ball and avoid a foul. Alcaide did contact the 2-ball first but left an open table for Feijen who took his chance and ran the rack for the victory on his home turf here in The Netherlands, winning the final match with 9:7 over David Alcaide.

Imran Majid won the French Open by Predator for a second successive year with an 11-10 victory over Marc Bijsterbosch in the final at Replay Billard.
Despite Bijsterbosch reaching the hill first at 10-8, Majid was able to win the last three racks and reclaim the title he first won at the same venue a year before.
This marks the third year out of three that a British player has won the French Open title, while players from France, Belgium, Turkey and the Netherlands also featured at the business end of the tournament.
Majid went home with the winner's cheque for 2,000€, while runner-up Bijsterbosch was awarded 1,000€ for making the final.

Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the penultimate BWPPA event of the season on 10/11 September 2016, the Kamui 9-ball Shootout.
Birmingham’s Roy Kimberley won his first main event on the tour in over 3 years beating Midlands rival Aslam Abubaker in the final.
Going into the event Daniel Lee and Fred Dinsmore seemed the only players still in realistic contention for the no.1 spot at the end of the season, which not only brings with it its own prestige but also a cue from our generous friends at Predator. Only some unusual results against the formbook could change that!
