Europe seal hard fought victory at the Trop

Europe 11-7 USA

Niels Feijen 5-4
Justin Bergman
Karl Boyes 4-5 Shane Van Boening
Albin Ouschan 5-4 Skyler Woodward

EUROPE HAS retained the PartyPoker Mosconi Cup as they won the required two points to record their sixth consecutive victory and leave a disappointed American team once again on the receiving end. It was Austrian rookie Albin Ouschan who had the honour of downing the winning 9 ball as he clinched a hill hill battle of the rookies against Skyler Woodward.

That sparked jubilant scenes in arena as his joyous team-mates piled on top of the young Austrian and the banks of European fans went wild.

“I won the China Open this year but that was like kindergarten compared to this. On the winning 9 ball I was thinking, just make this,” said Ouschan.

For European captain Chamat, who was a Mosconi Cup winner as a player in 2002, it was a sweet moment as he struggled to control his emotions in victory.

“It is an amazing feeling to be holding the trophy again, it has been a few years for me. I am so happy personally and for the guys, it means so much. When it comes to pool the Mosconi Cup is something I have had so much passion for through the years. I bet Albin and Skyler, for the rest of their lives they will have a passion to want to play in the Mosconi Cup again. That was the same that happened to me when I first played in 2000.

Europe two away from another victory

Europe 9-6 USA

Ouschan / Feijen 5-1
Bergman / Deuel
Nick van den Berg 4-5 Corey Deuel
Ouschan / Boyes 5-2 Woodward / Dechaine
Niels Feijen 5-4 Shane Van Boening
Darren Appleton 2-5 Justin Bergman

EUROPE NEED just two more points to retain the PartyPoker Mosconi Cup as they once again won the session 3-2 to increase their lead to 9-6 with a potential six games to play on Thursday. The USA need to win five matches for victory but they will need to up their speed if they are to achieve that.

Taking place at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, the PartyPoker Mosconi Cup is the annual 9 ball shoot-out between two five-man teams representing Europe and the USA and is now in its 22nd year.

After another winning day, European captain Marcus Chamat said, “The guys played really well, the best they have played all week. The doubles matches were great for us. Corey got a little lucky against Nick but Nick battled great and unfortunately he didn’t win. We got some luck with Niels when he broke the 9 against Shane and in the last match Bergman played well.

“If everybody plays well it is very hard to beat our team. The USA have a really good team but when we play like we do then it is very hard for them to play us; like trying to play against Roger Federer when he was at his prime; if he plays good the other player will be second. We have this level of play and we can play even better and if we do it will be really hard for them, I don’t think they can play with us.

Europe increases lead but America still in the race

Europe 6-4 USA

Feijen / van den Berg 3-5 Bergman / Woodward
Albin Ouschan 5-3 Mike Dechaine
Appleton / Boyes 5-2 Van Boening / Deuel
Karl Boyes 5-3 Skyler Woodward
Appleton / van den Berg 4-5 Dechaine / Van Boening

THERE WAS more drama at the 22nd annual PartyPoker Mosconi Cup at the Tropicana as the Europeans increased their lead as they won the session 3-2 to move their overall lead to 6-4 with two more days to play. It could have been so much worse for the USA but they won a thrilling hill hill final match when a defeat would have left them three points adrift and the Europeans needing just four more wins to retain the trophy.

The venue was once again packed to the rafters and the US duo of Skyler Woodward and Justin Bergman got off to the perfect start with 5-3 over Holland’s Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg. Coming into the session at 2-3 down, it was essential to start out with a win.

“I had a lot of confidence in us because we have played probably five big money matches together as doubles and we haven’t lost yet,” said Justin Bergman.

Europe takes the early lead

Europe 4-5 USA
Boyes / van den Berg 5-4 Deuel / Dechaine
Niels Feijen 5-2 Justin Bergman
Ouschan / Appleton 1-5 Van Boening / Woodward
Darren Appleton 5-1 Van Boening

THE 22nd ANNUAL PartyPoker Mosconi Cup got underway on Monday at the Tropicana in Las Vegas as Europe got the better of an entertaining session in their defence of pool’s ultimate trophy. 3-2 was the final account but it was tense stuff as both teams worked to settle in the intimidating atmosphere.

There will be no respite tomorrow when five more matches complete and Europe’s captain Marcus Chamat was pleased with the first day; “Emotions were up and down today. Every match felt like it was a tough game. It is a new situation for me as the captain but I gained a lot of confidence today. I got really nervous when the table was open but then I would think, this is the greatest team in the world why should I get worried? But when the balls are lying there your heart is so in it.

“Every match is big, every rack is big. We have a 3-2 lead but we know that tomorrow will be very tough again. We know we have to be really good to beat this team. The American team showed today that they are a very good team, stronger than they have been in the last five or six years. We have to come out strong tomorrow. “

Ashik Nathwani Shines at T9B Champion Of Champions Event

The waiting was finally over, the T9B Champion Of Champions event was upon us after nearly 12 whole months of build-up. All 16 Champions from this season where in a attendance battling for a share of the £2000 prize pot. At the start of the season T9B guaranteed a minimum of £500 to be added to the Grand Final and a total prize pool of £2000 for the Champion of Champions event. T9B staff worked very hard but we made it and paid every penny we promised. The Grand Final last weekend and The champion Of Champions this weekend were nothing short of spectacular.

The T9B team decided the opening round of the Champion Of Champions event will be run as a double elimination with groups of 4 players. After this stage we would be down to eight players who would all receive prize money and the event format would switch to straight knockout with a random draw being seeded group winners against group loser qualifiers.

MATCHROOM SPORT can today announce that the 2015 PARTYPOKER MOSCONI CUP will be shown in its entirety in the USA on ESPN3, ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network.

Starting at 2pm EST on Monday 7th December, the Mosconi Cup is the annual Europe v USA 9 ball pool face-off taking place at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, with Team America looking for their first win in six years.

The ultimate champions will be the team that reaches 11 points first and play runs from Monday 7th concluding in an exciting climax on the afternoon of Thursday 10th December.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said, “We’re excited that once again, ESPN has given sports fans across America the chance to see what is without a shadow of a doubt pool’s greatest show.

Dynamite rates the Americans: ‘We’ll give them 110% respect’

ENGLAND’S DARREN APPLETON has a unique perspective with which to size up the American forces gathered to contest the 22nd annual PartyPoker Mosconi Cup which breaks off at the Tropicana in Las Vegas on Monday 7th December. The five-time MC winner lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania and plies his trade across the USA as well as around the world in major events.

‘Dynamite’ feels he has the inside track, a position which he is making the maximum use of; “They’re a good balanced team; a combination of youth and experience. Luckily for me I live in States so I know all their games really well and that really helps me give information to captain Marcus Chamat and the rest of European team.”

Appleton took time out from his Mosconi Cup preparation to give us the low down on the five men lining up in the opposite corner for the 22nd annual transatlantic showdown.
