Round 1 Scores Czech Republic 7-3 Spain (11) Finland (10) 7-4 Belgium Singapore 7-5 Greece (7) TWO MORE seeded teams crashed out of the 2015 Dafabet World Cup of Pool as the penultimate session of round one matches continued at the York Hall. The #11 seeds Spain were well beaten by unfancied Czech Republic while the seventh seeded Greece were overturned by Singapore. The other match saw former champions Finland enjoy a tidy win over Belgium. Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year. In a low quality match with plenty of errors, the Czech Republic had too much to the Spanish pair of the two Franciscos (Diaz-Pizarro & Sanchez Ruiz). In particular Sanchez Ruiz had a bit of a nightmare as he had a couple of glaring misses that helped the Czechs on their way. Roman Hybler and Michal Gavenciak, who had reach the quarter-finals of the inaugural World Cup of Pool back in 2006, pulled away from 3-3 after being guilty of early errors themselves. The turning point was the seventh rack as Gavenciak refused an open 6 ball in favour of laying a telling snooker. The Spanish failed to escape and with ball in hand the score became 4-3. From a powerful Gavenciak break in the eighth the Czechs ran out, and a 2/9 combo in the next made it 6-3. Spain could not recover as the Czechs booked a second round match against Qatar. Commented Hybler, “We are really pleased to be into the second round. At the start of the match there was a lot of pressure for both teams and you could feel it. When we went 4-3 up I felt more confident and we made some good shots.

Round 1 Scores Qatar 7-5 USA (6) Holland (3) 7-3 India Philippines (2) 7-4 Russia THERE was another big upset as day two of the Dafabet World Cup of Pool played out at the York Hall, London on Wednesday evening. This time it was the USA who crumbled, going down to Qatar who looked the part and definitely played it. In the other matches Holland had a comfortable win against India after getting off to a great start and the Philippines steamrollered Russia after losing the early exchanges. Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year. In the opening game Team USA (Mike Dechaine and Shane Van Boening) were left shell-shocked as they fell at the first hurdle to a lively Qatari team in front of a large noisy crowd. The score was 7-5 but there was no doubting the superior team on the day.
The Qatar team of Waleed Majid and Bashar Hussain played two superb racks to take the early lead at 2-0 and settle any nerves. The USA came back into it but trailing 2-3 Dechaine scratched while potting the 7 ball. That made it 4-2 to Qatar before the USA took the next to stay on their heels. Qatar moved that to 5-3 with a 7/9 combo, before America won the 9th and then broke and ran to level it at 5-5. They couldn’t press home the advantage though and an outstanding 3/8/9 combo from Bashar Hussain put Qatar on the hill. The axe fell in rack 12 when Van Boening caught an attempted safety on the 1 ball too thick and scratched. Qatar nearly made a mess of it with ball in hand but Waleed saved it with a nerveless bank on the 8 ball to set up the win. Commented jubilant Waleed; “I am very excited to have beaten America. We didn’t just play for Qatar, we played for all Arab countries. Our federation has supported Qatari players well and we hope we can repeat this performance in the next match.

Round 1 Scores Poland (13) 7-3 New Zealand Chinese Taipei (4) 7-5 Estonia Japan (14) 7-3 Italy THERE were comfortable wins for seeded teams Poland, Chinese Taipei and Japan as action continued in East London in the first round of the Dafabet World Cup of Pool. The opening day had seen a host of upsets with Germany, China and Canada departing but everyone stuck to the script and survived to reach round 2. Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year. Chinese Taipei, one of the highly fancied teams here in London this week, overcame an Estonian team of Dennis Grabe and Erki Erm, winning by a 7-5 scoreline. Estonia took the opening rack before Erm missed an easy 9 ball to go 2-0 and allowed Ko Pin Yi and Chang Yu Lung to take four consecutive legs for a 4-1 lead. The Estonian pair battled and enjoyed some fortune but in the end it was the Taiwanese who took the match 7-5. Ko and Chang certainly have the pedigree to become the first team from their nation to lift the World Cup and they should only improve from this performance as they look ahead to their second round match against Poland.

Round 1 Scores Indonesia 7-3 Germany (9) England A (1) 7-5 Australia Austria (5) 7-5 Peru DEFENDING CHAMPIONS ENGLAND A safely made their way through to the second round of the Dafabet World Cup of Pool but they had to come from behind to overcome a game Australian pair of Robby Foldvari and Chris Calabrese to do so. In other Tuesday night matches, former champions Germany were dumped out of the event by an amped-up Indonesian team and Austria took care of Peru by a 7-5 scoreline. Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year. After an afternoon of seeds falling, Germany were the next ranked team to be taken to the cleaners as the confident Indonesian pair of Bewi Muhammad Simanjuntak and Irsal Nasution got the better of them by a 7-3 score-line. Despite their lofty seeding of 9, the German pair of Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann was never at the races as the Indonesians moved into a 4-1 lead. That soon became 6-2 and despite the Germans taking the ninth game it was to be their final contribution to the match. A delighted Muhammad Simanjuntak, “In the first match there is always a bit of pressure but we have had very good preparation for this tournament. Our plan was to just enjoy the games and do our best. Nine-ball is a game where anything can happen, like Romania beat China earlier today.

2015 BWPPA Ranking Event No.4 - The Kamui 9-Ball Shootout Escape Pool Bar 47-51 Peel Street Barnsley S70 2RL 01226 779 347 www.bwppa.com
Saturday/Sunday 5/6 September 2015
Dinsmore does the double, and retains the Kamui 9-Ball shootout.
Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 4th BWPPA event of the season on 5/6 September 2015.
Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore won his 2nd tour event in a row beating Aslam Abubaker in the final.
Dinsmore went into the event as one of 3 players still in realistic contention for the no.1 spot at the end of the season, which not only brings with it its own prestige but also a cue from our generous friends at Predator.
After the first round Dinsmore got his campaign off to a good start with a hard fought 7-5 win over Daniel Lee, and then he went into battle with old foe Roy Kimberley and beat him 7-4.

Round 1 Scores Korea (16) 7-6 Malaysia Romania 7-4 China ( 8 ) France 7-6 Canada (12) THE 2015 DAFABET WORLD CUP OF POOL got underway today with three first round matches and there were a couple of upsets as two-time champions China crashed out to qualifiers Romania and then France squeezed past the seeded Canada in a deciding rack. Taking place at the York Hall in London, the Dafabet World Cup of Pool features 32 two-man teams from around the globe competing for a $250,000 prize fund. Televised live in over 40 countries around the world, the event is now entering its tenth year. No.8 seeds China had a torrid time of it at the hands of qualifiers Romania who were making their debut in the competition. They put on a tremendous show to take the match 7-4.
In 2011 the Chinese as defending champions crashed out to qualifiers Switzerland in Manila and it was a similar story this time. The Romanian pair of Babken Melkonyan & Ioan Ladanyi looked in control throughout the match and they moved into a 4-0 lead to leave their opponents – Liu Haitao and two-time World Cup of Pool winner Li Hewen – looking bemused.

The Northern Masters final of 2015 was contested by two players already having had a taste of victory this season. They were Michael Rhodes, winner of February’s Pro Cup, and Craig Osborne, reigning Paul Medati Trophy champion and looking for his second major in a row. Rhodes had to work mighty hard in his opening match with Martyn Taylor, and it was Taylor who snatched a last-gasp 9-8 win to send Rhodes into the losers bracket where he faced Dean Sporton. Desperate to avenge his hill-hill defeat, he cruised through 7 racks to 1 and followed it up with a 7-2 dispatching of Adam Collins. Ben George was next in the firing line on the losers side, and Rhodes was in no mood to let up his winning pace. A 7-3 win saw him one win away from a place in the last 16, with young Scottish potter Chris Fraser standing in his way. Each opponent before him had gone one rack better and the same applied here – Fraser only managing 4 frames to Rhodes’ 7, and it was Rhodes who took a last 16 berth. There he faced Tom Staveley in what didn’t fail to be a terrific match. Rhodes won through 9-7 and faced Tony Drago in the quarter finals. The Tornado was looking to reach his first ever main event final, but that wait was to continue – another 9-7 win for Rhodes secured his spot in the final four and a semi final clash with Imran Majid. Majid himself last won a main event at last season’s Southern Masters, and his wait was also set to continue. A convincing 9-3 win saw Rhodes safely through to the final.

Total9ball was back at our home St Albans Hurricane Room just six days after Money Mania 1 for the prestigious Amateur Series 2015 Event 7. As we approach the end of the season there was more to play for than ever with just a few chances remaining for players who haven’t yet won an event to reach the end of season Champion Of Champions event, T9B by the time of this event will have collected over £2000 in prize money (including entry fees of £35) The event will be open to the 16 event winning players only. There is also prize money awarded to the players who end the season ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the official Total9ball Amateur Series rankings (best 6 results count from 8 event) also the top 32 players ranked players who have attended three or more Amateur Series events this season will be invited back for the Grand Finals (Around £500 will added by T9B for this event). There was also a £600 break dish thrown in for good measure. As you can see above there really is so much going on a Total9ball with many side events and results leading to other bigger events. This alone clearly makes the T9B series the biggest and best value series the UK has to offer. Matches kicked off at 10.30am on Saturday 12th September, would today produce another new T9B event winner? T9B is really happy to see so many players improving their game and like to think we play a big part in this improvement through our regular high class competitions. There were so many players in this field in great form picking a winner was never going to be easy and add in the handicaps to level the field there really is an anybody can win feeling at these events. The T9B handicap system that we have been running this season in my opinion is the fairest it’s ever been with players stats checked after each event and changed on a rolling three event basis. This means it’s no longer an opinion based handicap system and now is functioning on facts. Also there are five current players on the T9B handicap committee who help to review each handicap change and make sure everything is keep up to date and fair.

 | KO BECOMES POOL’S HARDCORE MAN - Day 7 Report |
2015 WPA World 9-Ball Championships Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation Al Sadd Sports Club Al Sadd Street Sport Roundabout Doha Qatar www.qbsf.qa - facebook - live stream - brackets www.wpa-pool.com - Twitter - facebook www.kozoom.com
Monday - Friday 7 - 18 September 2015
Photography courtesy of ©Richard Walker - used by Pro9 with express permission Click the image to view the full size photograph (use "back" to return here) Taiwan’s Ko Pin Yi wins his first World 9-ball Championship with a gritty 13-11 win over the USA’s Shane Van Boening.
Showing why he is not only one of pool’s most talented performers, but perhaps its most hardcore player as well, Taiwan’s Ko Pin Yi captured his first World 9-ball Championship tonight in Doha, trading blows with the USA’s Shane Van Boening for two and a half hours before pulling away in crunch time to win 13-11.
Both players put in gritty, high quality performances, with brilliant shot making under pressure, coupled with just a handful of errors from both superstars. The outcome was in doubt right down to the dramatic end, but it was Ko who seemed to will himself over the finish line for the historic win.
The win is the 26 year old Ko’s second world championship this year, after capturing the 10-ball world title in the Philippines back in February. That victory seven months ago served to fulfill the former teen pool prodigy’s long cherished dream of winning his first world title. Tonight’s win puts Ko in the pantheon of all time pool greats.
For Van Boening the loss in his first ever World 9-ball final has to be a massive disappointment, especially considering that he had literally lapped the field in his prior matches, playing some of the most scintillating 9-ball seen in many years. But the American’s mastery of the break shot came to end against Ko, and he was forced to duke it out with the Taiwanese. Van Boening had more than enough chances to pull out the match, but with the pressure mounting late and the wear and tear taking its toll on both players, Ko had just that little bit extra to get the job done.
Under normal circumstances a match up in the world finals between greats like Ko and Van Boening would be expected to be a tight slugfest from beginning to end. But prior to the final almost nobody in the Al Arabi Sports Club, and the tens of thousands tuning in around the world on the live stream, was giving Ko a chance. That’s because up until that point the American had been in a rarefied zone that few pool fans had ever seen, winning his five previous race to 11 matches by the almost preposterous total score of 55-14. Having figured out the break shot, Van Boening simply couldn’t be stopped and he carried an air of confident invincibility that made him appear untouchable.
