Feijen wins Dynamic Billard Austrian Open over Filler

In a high class quality final match, Niels Feijen (NED) defeated Joshua Filler (GER) with 9:7 in the final match of the Dynamic Billard Austrian Open.

The writing was on the wall that this match would be a thriller. And the many spectators in the venue and on the computer screens were not disappointed. To the contrary. The final contained everything one could wish for. The first racks were close to perfect. Both players hardly made any mistakes and after nine racks the scoreboard displayed a small advantage for Feijen with 5:4. Then Filler made a mistake when he attempted a safety on the 2-ball when Feijen played a push-out instead of handing the situation back to Feijen. He left an open table for Feijen and „The Terminator“ ran out, taking a 6:4 lead over Filler.

Feijen could continue with this strong performance and after 13 racks, he was on the hill leading 8:5. He attempted a shot on the 3-ball but he missed it. Filler got back to the table and took that rack with some luck. In the flow of the match, Filler pulled back some racks from Feijen and the situation got to 8:7 in favor of Feijen. The Dutch had broken the match and it was clear that if he lost this rack, the match would have been 8:8 with Filler to break. Feijen did not want to see that happen. At 8:7, Feijen had some balls down and the 2-ball was the ball on. But it was blocked. Feijen could not play it. So he went for a push-out and put the cue ball against the side rail. Filler went for a safety shot and played it very well. Feijen needed to play a jump shot and hit the 2-ball with the cue ball rolling into a safe position. That was a lucky outcome for Feijen. Filler attempted another safety on the 2-ball but failed. He left an open table for Feijen who cleared the slate and won the match with 9:7.

Ipswich dominates at T9B Weekender

On Saturday 25th July the waiting was over as T9B launched their new Weekender event at The St Albans Hurricane Room. This fantastic new two day event would consist of multiple events including the Break-Dish, a Main event with players being split in to three separate tiers based on standard (Each Tier Winner would be offered a space at the end of season Champion Of Champions event), A race to 3 rack shoot-out, a one rack last man standing event (rebuy for 15 minutes) and a blind scotch doubles (rebuy 1st round losers only). The plan was to cram as much 10ball pool into the Saturday leaving just the players in the prize money to return on the Sunday. T9B added a total of £325 to create a lucrative prize pool rewarding players for their support of the first running of this style event.

All Main event matches were played as a race to 15 racks, 10 ball, winner breaks and it was this event that kicked of The Weekender on Saturday Morning. First up were matches from the Minnows Medal division (Lower Tier). There was so much action and results over the weekend I will briefly summarise.

Dinsmore retains the British 10-Ball title

The BWPPA held its 3rd event of the 2015 season on the 11th/12th July with the Talisman British 10-ball Championships held at the BWPPA/BWCSA Wheelchair Cue Sport Academy at Stoke Mandeville.
The Main Event saw a smaller field than usual with 10 players entering, although we also had John White and Chris Brown attend the challenge event on the Sunday, as they could not play in the main event due to other commitments.
Prior to the Main Event Dave Beaumont was congratulated for retaining his English 8-ball Pool World Wheelchair title in Blackpool recently.
In conditions much hotter than normal, the dress code had to be relaxed for the comfort of the players. Despite the heat, there was some excellent pool on show as usual.

Thorsten Hohmann Wins World 14.1 Title for the 4th Time

New York City, NY - Germany has now taken the World 14.1 Cup for a record 6 times when it's favorite straight pool son defeated reigning champion Darren Appleton of England. In a re-match of 2013, the two best players with the best records in the event faced off for a second finals within 3 years. The Andy Cloth 75th World Tournament of 14.1 featured a who's who of world class players in attendance to etch their name into history's elite of the father of all pool games. Darren Appleton, Thorsten Hohmann, Dennis Orcullo, Warren Kiamco, Stephan Cohen, Shane Van Boening, Johnny Archer, Corey Deuel, Earl Strickland, Mika Immonen, Tony Robles and many, many more have participated all week. The main event took place once more in New York City. Dragon Promotions kept the oldest billiard event in the world alive with the 75th production on July 13th-19th, 2015. As usual, a star studded field attended this year at Steinway Billiards Cafe, who once more hosted the world class event. The World Tournament Official Equipment included Viking Cue with all matches played on Andy Cloth. Event partners included Mr.Tom Gleich, Dr. Gregory Diehl, Mr. Greg Hunt of Amsterdam Billiards, & Mr. Jim Gottier of Greenleaf's Pool Room. Patron sponsors include Mr. Harold Siegel of Excelsior Graphics, Dr. James Heller, Mr. Charles Eames of Charles Eames Photography, Frank Scharbach of Frank's Billard Cafe, Focused Apparel and the National Amateur Pool League.

Staveley Simply Too Good at T9B Dynamic Amateur Series Event 5!!!

Total9Ball returned on Saturday 27th June for event 5 of their 8 event Amateur Series of 2015. Once again the event gained the maximum support of 32 players and what a line up it was. Players travelling from up and down the country to compete for the trophy, prize money and ranking points. As always there was the break-dish side event. The pot this week after sales reached a massive £900!!! Once again Total9Ball were extremely pleased to have new players at this event competing for the first time. A warm welcome to Gareth Pugh, GJ, Marlowe Malicdem and Roderick. We hope you enjoyed your first event. It’s always hard to assign a handicap for new players but now we have to results to go on we can make adjustments accordingly to make sure it's correct for next time.

The first seven matches kicked off just after 10.30am. All matches were played as a race to 7 racks using alternate breaks with the handicaps added on top (handicaps at this event ranged from +4 to -3). The very first match drawn was a cracker on paper and by result Brian Cassidy took on Tom Staveley in a fixture that could of just as easily been the Final rather than the first round. These two class players ranked 2nd and 4th respectively battled hard for the result but it was Cassidy who managed to win the all crucial hill-hill final rack. End result Brian Cassidy 7v6 Tom Staveley. Mark Williams results of late have been improving nicely along with his all round game, an impressive 7v1 victory against Rich Fulwell will do his confidence no harm either, T9B recently crowned Chris Seville as UK Champion (now off a -1 handicap) and he started this event well with a cool 7v2 victory over Wycombe based player Mark Newell. Graham Clegg won his first Total9ball match 7v5 against Ashik Nathwani, as a new player I’m sure Graham was very pleased with such a scalp. Friends collided as Alan Bell took on his travelling companion Bob Harris, Alan managed to get the better of Bob 7v5 on this occasion. We were pleased to have the support from the guys who organise the SMB events held monthly at Victoria Riley's. GJ’s event kicked off with an extremely tough challenge against Elliott Sanderson, GJ was defeated 7v2 but took it like a man and said ‘wow that was like playing Tony Drago on Speed’ not sure there was any need to throw your coffee over many players though GJ! haha!
