Shane survives a scare to progress

US NO.1 SHANE VAN BOENING survived a nerve-jangling half an hour at the hands of young Aussie James Georgiadis as he edged his way through to the last eight of the 2014 PartyPoker World Pool Masters at the Portland Centre, Nottingham, England.
Van Boening, who returns to the UK in two weeks for his eighth Mosconi Cup appearance, looked to be in the driving seat as he free-wheeled through the racks in the winner breaks format to reach the hill at 7-1.
However, facing a seemingly impossible situation, Georgiadis loosened up and began to claw the racks back with some excellent shot-making and tight safety play. Van Boening, by contrast, looked uncomfortable as he started to miss balls. In the end though, Georgiadis was up against it in the 14th game and a speculative bank on the 3ball left the table open for Van Boening to clinch the victory.
Van Boening said, I got the momentum going at the beginning but he came back to 7-6 and at that point I had to think about when I have been playing well, like when I won the US Open. I tried to envision that place, because you want to think about something positive and not anything else. You have to try not to worry about your opponent.
The first match is always tough but you cannot worry who you play. I have a feel of the conditions now and I am feeling good, so I can take confidence to the next round.

Mixed fortunes for Mosconi stars

THERE WERE first round defeats for 2014 European Mosconi Cup team mates Niels Feijen and Darren Appleton at the 2014 PartyPoker World Pool Masters while fellow team member Nikos Ekonomopoulos recorded a fine win over Thorsten Hohmann at the Portland Centre, Nottingham, England.
Niels Feijen crashed out as the 21st annual invitational event got underway as the Dutchman was beaten 8-4 by Italian danger man Daniele Corrieri.
The break conditions employed at the Masters saw the three point rule scrapped and no balls tapped into place. That meant the players needed to hit the pack hard in order to give themselves every chance. The European No.8 from Rome looked focused throughout while World Champion Feijen made too many errors when it looked like momentum was shifting in his favour.
Corrieri said, It was a tense match and it was one of the toughest draws I could have had to play the defending champion and it gives me a lot of confidence going forward.
Perhaps Niels didnt quite get the hang of the break and I was able to make balls on the break, and when it is a short race with winner breaks you can take advantage of your chances.

Some tickets left for Masters in Nottingham
WITH THE PARTYPOKER World Pool Masters breaking off in a little over nine days time, there are still some tickets available for all five sessions of pools annual gathering of some of the greatest players in the world.
Taking place from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th November at the 100 year-old Portland Centre, in the heart of Nottingham, there are five sessions in total with tickets are available from SeeTickets.com as well as the venue.
Now in its 22nd year, the 2014 PartyPoker World Pool Masters features 16 champions from around the world including Darren Appleton, Shane Van Boening, Chris Melling, Niels Feijen, Mark Gray, Dennis Orcollo, Karl Boyes, Thorsten Hohmann and Alex Pagulayan.
Tickets are priced at 5 for Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and 10 for the Saturday and Sunday evening sessions. To catch all the 9 ball action there is a great value season ticket taking in all sessions for just 25.

 MoneyBattle Team MoneyBattle was created from 4 guys who love pool. We are all part of the pool circuit in someway, avid followers of pool in general and have many pool friends around Europe. We have all taken part in national championships, European tours and many national team and individual competitions so we know a lot of guys around the pool scene. Due to this we often hear, see or even take part in money games, some for big money. However we realised that not many people get to see these great games. Money games are a lot different to the normal competition games we play, so it brings out a different player and increases the pressure immensely. This is great for spectating and means anything can happen and any shot can be missed. We decided that it would be a great idea to showcase money games from around Europe with some of the local and top players in the game. From this MoneyBattle was created.

Official Preview: 2014 GB9 British Grand Prix
The 2014 GB9 season will reach its climax as the tour returns to the Daventry Court Hotel, Northamptonshire for this seasons coveted British Grand Prix.
After some mouth-watering clashes across the season, the seventh year of GB9 competition is fast reaching its conclusion. We have once again seen many of Britains finest professional and amateur players alike battling it out to see who really is the best of the best. With four different players Chris Hall, Mark Gray, Phil Burford and Imran Majid winning this seasons four main events, little more proof is needed as to the strength in depth of the tour. Also with two regular GB9 players, Mark Gray and Karl Boyes, confirmed for Europe in this seasons Mosconi Cup, the quality of the tour professionals simply cannot be argued.
However, the future of the tour is well and truly in the hands of players both old and new. Now, more than ever, players need to come out and back what is still regarded as one of the toughest national tours on the planet, and few will argue that the tournament conditions at GB9 events are second to none. This however understandably comes at a cost, and GB9s commercial agreements are not sustainable without the support of 96 members signed up for the 2015 season by the deadline of 30 November 2014. Present GB 9 Ball Tour players and aspiring players alike are encouraged to support the tour and sign up for the 2015 season. All input from past, present and future players is welcome, and if theres anything you want to see from your tour then make your voice heard.
