Gold Medalists Barbara Bolfelli and Reiner Wirsbitzki Bolfelli and Wirsbitzki claimed the titles in 10-ball
The finals of the 10-ball individuals have been played. In the seniors division, Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) took the Gold Medal. The title in the ladies division was snatched by Barbara Bolfelli (ITA).
The senior's final was tight and went along back and forth. Wirsbitzki's opponent Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) was a tough opposition. The German got momentum first and got a small two rack advantage over Kristiansen taking a 3:1 lead. Then it was Kristiansen who fired back and capitalized from Wirsbitzki's mistakes. But Kristiansen had two big problems in the final: He could not get a position on the 1-ball after his break shot and he could not get the pace of the table. Very often, Kristiansen played the cue ball at the wrong speed. However, he managed to get on top of Wirsbitzki with 5:3. In the 9th rack, he could have made it to the hill when Wirsbitzki missed a make-able 5-ball but he scratched when he got to the table. Wirsbitzki grew strong when he saw that Kristiansen could not finish the match. Now he went along and pocketed balls, winning rack after rack. In the end, Wirsbitzki won the match deservedly with 7:5 and claimed the first Gold Medal for Germany in this tournament.
The ladies final was not so tight. Bolfelli dealt with Ann-Sofie Lfgren from Sweden. After four racks Bolfelli was leading 3:1. Then, Lfgren got the chance to get a rack back from Bolfelli but she pocketed the 10-ball and scratched. That brought Bolfelli to a comfortable 4:1 lead. The 6th rack brought the decision. Lfgren didn't come up with any more resistance and finally had to give in to stronger Bolfelli.
The event will continue tomorrow with team and 8-ball competition.

Buck Takes away the Bucks at T9B National Series Event 4 in Bristol
James Buck may have come into this event as a underdog but he soon removed that tag. Buck is a regular snooker player who has competed in a few PTCs and has won every trophy available for snooker in Bristol. After speaking with James yesterday it became clear that this guy needs a challenge and what better way to challenge yourself than competing in a high standard 9ball event with a 20 cue on just 5 hours total practice. James Bucks event began with a tricky match up against local 9ball superstar Jon Davies. Jon has been off the scene for a about a year but you could still see his class, this match was a battle from start to finish as racks went one way and then the other. James keep his composure and his solid well practiced snooker cue action held up to the pressure as he sunk the final 9ball to win 7v5. This event was run as a 2x double chance comp therefore it wasnt long before Buck was back in action and he converted another confidence boosting 7v5 win this time over Sean Dracup.
Other results from the first round saw Phil Wildman defeat Rattapol Sassmann 7v5 and Chris Parker 7v6 (from 5v1 down). Jon Davies after losing to Buck got back into winning form after a tight 7v6 victory over Tony Phillips. Clive Bentley won 7v3 against Yuk Chan. Sam Sherwood hit top gear as he won his first two matches 7v4 and 7v5 over Dominic Clements and Ken Ng respectively. Mark Parker's day also began with two wins as Mark looked to continue his fine current form, Parker dropped 7 racks across his first two matching as he advanced to round two 7v3 (Steven Cuthbert) and 7v4 (Rattapol Sassmann).

 | Abubaker takes Kamui 9-Ball Shootout crown |
2013 BWPPA Event No.3 - The Kamui 9 Ball Shootout Escape Pool Bar 47-51 Peel Street Barnsley S70 2RL 01226 779 347 www.bwppa.com www.bwppa.com - rankings - gallery www.poolbarpool.co.uk
Saturday/Sunday 20/21 July 2013
Aslam Abubaker & Roy Kimberley Abubaker takes Kamui 9-Ball Shootout, but Kimberley stays top of rankings
Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 3rd BWPPA event of the season on 20/21 July 2013.
Aslam Abubaker won his first tour event in almost 3 years by beating Roy The Sandman Kimberley in the final.
Abubaker went into the event on the back of some great form on the Total 9 Ball Tour.
Again we had a great turnout as 17 players entered, with Irelands Fred Dinsmore yet again making the trip, and he had real determination to better his performances in the previous few BWPPA events.
Abubaker got his campaign off to a great start with a 7-3 win over Phil Hendrickson, who was the one to avoid in the first round, as he is a regular top 3-4 ranked player.
Abubakers next win was must closer as he beat Dinsmore 7-6 in a battle of the big hitters.
In the next round it was back on familiar ground as he again faced high ranked Phil Hendrickson. This was a great match which Abubaker took with a 7-5 win and advance to the semi-final where he would meet Tony Southern.
Southern had beaten John Greensmith 7-3, Frankie Gillen 7-2 and relative newcomer Roger Hales 7-3. This was a high quality match with both players playing some good pool, however it was Abubaker who advanced into the final with a 7-4 score line.

Click the image to view the larger photograph - use "back" to return here. Dynamite wins Gold Medal at 2013 World Games
It wasn't easy - but he's done it - Darren Appleton overcame a host of challenges and challengers to get the gold - not least in the final race to 11 match against Taiwan's Jung-Lin Chang, when, with the score at 10-9 in Darren's favour he simply couldn't wait any longer to take a "bathroom break".
Well.. When you've got to go, you've got to go - but when he came back, the referee penalised him with a 1 rack forfeit, so now the score was 10:10 and it was Chang to break.
Chang won the WPA World 8 Ball Championship title in 2012, so he's certainly no pushover, and Darren would consider himself lucky to get another shot - fortunately, he did, and even managed to hold his nerve to run the final rack to claim the title.
The culmination of what had been an emotional week showed in the completely spontaneous celebration which took the form of what looked like an ill-judged attempt at a back-flip with his cue flying into the air to the sound of a tumultuous cheer from the huge crowd of spectators!

 | Gold medals for Ivanovskaia, Filler and Tangudd |

26 July - 2 August 2013
Left to right: Joshua Filler, Veronika Ivanovskaia and Daniel Tangudd Surprising results in the finals
While the favored player won the pupil's division, the winners in the other division were a bit of a surprise.
The pupil's division was dominated by Joshua Filler (GER). He was never really endangered and made his way to the title with a superior performance. His opponent in the final match, Oliver Szolnoki (HUN) did his best to challenge Filler and make his life as hard as possible but in in the end he had to let Filler take the crown with a 6:4 victory in the final. In the girl's match, the favored player got beaten. Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) who has already snatched the crown in 10-ball this week, played a close match with Veronika Ivanovskaia (GER). Both girls did not want to show any weaknesses but the pressure was on for both of them. Some small mistakes were committed on both sides but Ivanovskaia managed to get back on track first. She got back in the zone and made use of the chances that Khodjaeva gave her. A missed ball in the eighth rack opened the doors for Ivanovskaia to claim her first title at European Championships with 5:3 over Khodjaeva.
In the junior's division, Seroshtan was trailing to Tangudd from the beginning of the match. Tangudd played rock solid and won the match clearly and deservedly with 7:3.

Saturday 27 July 2013

Liam Monk - Total9ball Amateur Series Grand Final Winner 2013 Grand Final Time For Total 9 Ball Amateurs
So it was the biggest event of the T9B amateur calendar on Saturday, The Amateur Series Grand Finals. 5 qualifying events have come and gone, it was now time for the show piece event. Hurricane Room in St Albans again played host to 24 of the best amateur players that this country has to offer, we also had in my opinion the best stream team in UK pool, Lee Rigby and Ian Sunderland, so it was sure to be a fantastic event.
Beautiful glass trophies were available to the Winner and Runner Up both engraved in memory of the late Larry Hinrichs.
The draw was completed by the players at around 9.30am. The players names were placed in three pots as this event was seeded, The top eight players on the T9B Amateur Series ranking list were seeded in order on one side of the draw and random placed in the other. The other 16 qualifiers had to play preliminary matches to qualify to complete against the top eight.
At the beginning of the event players knew that the jackpot for the day which is achieved by one player winning both halves of the draw was at an impressive 1000, the prize money began at 100 in the Quarter Finals, it was 150 for any losing Semi-Finalists, 300 for the Runner Up and 550 for the Winner, The 150 roll up pot was added to the Winners and Runners up prize money to give the Jackpot amount.
Matches began at 10am. There was a tense atmosphere with all players desperate to do themselves justice and come away with a pocket full of cash and the title of Total9ball Amateur Series Grand Final winner 2013.
