Danny Diliberto & Jack Colavita enter Straight Pool Hall of Fame
The 72nd World Tournament Carom Cafe 30-02 Linden Place Flushing New York USA www.DragonPromotions.com www.Worldstraightpool.com www.caromtv.com/caromcafe
29 July - 3 August 2012

Danny Diliberto & Jack Colavita Inducted into the Straight Pool Hall of Fame
Former World All Around Champion and straight pool legend Danny Diliberto and 5x New Jersey State 14.1 Champion "Gentleman Jack" Jack Colavita will be inducted into this year's Straight Pool Hall of Fame . Both players have had a long fruitful career in 14.1 accomplishments and both became huge influences on the promotions of the game as well. The 77 year old Diliberto will be dusting off his pool cue and participating in the 72nd Predator World Tournament of 14.1 as the honorary inductee , while Colavita will be honored throughout the week as well posthumously. World Champions from 1912 on through the earlier decades of 14.1 history will also be included and recognized as a group. The induction dinner ceremony will take place August 1st ,2012 at 5pm at Linden Place Banquet Hall adjacent to Carom Cafe which is hosting the Predator World Tournament. Special 14.1 Hall of Fame video presentations will be presented by NYCGrind.com's founder Jerry Tarantola. The World Tournament will pause for a long dinner break in honor of the ceremony during the fourth day of competition so all the players and fans can join.
Fans will be in for a rare treat as they watch pool's favorite 14.1 commentator play in his first World 14.1 in 30 years! The last big straight pool tourney Danny Diliberto played was in 1989 in Chicago only 23 years ago. "I'll never forget that tournament. They had a $3500 bonus for running 150 & out, and I was playing Varner and ran a 95 and I knew I was going to get that money, then a ball skidded on me!"
Diliberto has become a staple for Accu-Stats, the premiere pool video company in the industry. Danny's expert commentary and insight has influenced thousands of players worldwide. Diliberto was on the ballot where fans voted along with other top nominees that included Oliver Ortmann, Dallas West, Lou Butera, and Gene Nagy.
"It's really an honor to be elected in with greats like Ray Martin and Jack Colavita. I'm really looking forward to the event and also playing. I haven't played straight pool in years, but I'm going to be hitting balls before the World Tournament. Don't worry I still know how to play!" said Diliberto. Danny was the prestigious World All Around Champion of the legendary Johnston City events back in 1972 and runner-up to the late Steve Mizerak at the 1982 World 14.1 Championship. Diliberto was also the recipient of the BCA Hall of Fame last year.
"I'm really happy for Jack Colavita and his family. He was a great player, but above that he was a great person. I miss him."

Allison Fisher Wins Record Breaking 6th US Open for England

2012 US Open Champion Allison Fisher (Photo by Dale Shank) Allison Fisher Wins Record Breaking 6th US Open for England by Joseph Lee
Sussex native Allison Fisher won England its 6th US Open for women's pocket billiards. The US Open is not only one of the most prestigious titles to win in billiards, but it is the longest running women's billiard event in history. Fisher went undefeated in 7 consecutive matches with hardly ever being threatened. In the finals Fisher took on Austria's Gerda Hofstatter whom she defeated 7-3. The event was held at River Spirit Casino & Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma and aired on ESPN. Previously the most US Open wins recorded was by American men's champion Earl Strickland who holds 4 US Open titles. Fisher surpassed that record and now holds more US Open wins by any man or women in history. Fisher actually broke her own record of 5 US Open wins which she delivered last year, and successfully defended this year.
"I am very pleased with this win on so many different levels. Last year I won the event, even though I was not seeded #1 nor the favorite. This year I came in as the #1 seed and the paper favorite to win, and the expectation pressures were high. So winning was sweeter in a different way this time. All in all I'm very happy and it's nice to bring another gold for the United Kingdom", said Fisher.
With the Olympic Games around the corner in London, it's a nice start to have the UK making a splash in international sports.
"After all these years of winning, she still makes it look so easy", commented American veteran pro Laura Smith.

Boyes quickest in all-English final - Brits win over $60,000

Boyes Wins 2012 Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Pool by ESPN STAR Sports PR
An inevitable all-British final saw 2010 World 8Ball Champion Karl Boyes steal the limelight away from recently crowned world 9Ball champion and reigning world number one Darren Appleton to emerge as the first ever Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Pool champion. It was a comprehensive victory for Boyes, as the Blackpool native beat his compatriot in their thrilling seven-rack finale with an extraordinary time of 5:33 mins versus Appleton's 7:03 mins.
It was actually Appleton, who broke out the gates quicker, downing two racks in 1:38 mins with Boyes trailing three seconds behind with 1:41 mins. Unfazed, Boyes buckled down and amazingly orchestrated one of the quickest rack run-outs of the tournament in the third, clocking 39 seconds for a total time of 2:20 mins and taking an 18-second lead.
Unfortunately for Appleton it all went downhill from there. The man they call ‘Dynamite’ appeared to have self destructed by snookering himself in the fourth for a forced push out ten second penalty; the usually calm and collected Appleton suddenly found himself deep in trouble. On the other hand Boyes’ immaculate breaking continued to provide him with quick and easy opportunities for table run-outs allowing him to pad the lead further at 3:43 mins against 4:45 mins going into the sixth rack. Down but not out, Appleton started the sixth with a great break but a rushed center pocket slice on the striped nine obliterated any hopes of catching up to Boyes who was truly in a league of his own and the epitome of speed ball perfection. The seventh and final rack proved to be no more than a glorified victory lap for Boyes who was clearly enjoying the taste of victory. Eventually Appleton conceded, came over to his opponents table and congratulated his good friend. Boyes’ incredible championship performance earned him the coveted title of 2012 Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Challenge Champion and the top prize of USD41,500.00. For his admirable efforts, Appleton took home USD12,500.00

Smooth Sailing For Melling In Day One of Speed Pool Challenge

Day One of the Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Pool Challenge by ESPN STAR Sports PR
British pool player Chris Melling flew under the radar and took everybody by surprise with his remarkable outing on the first day of the preliminary rounds of the 2012 Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Pool Challenge here at the Ciputra World Mall in Surabaya, Indonesia. Flawless pocketing combined with quick draw shooting garnered him the best time of the day at 4:20 mins.
Refusing to be outdone, compatriot and 2010 World 8Ball Champion Karl Boyes also broke out of the gates sizzling. Efficiently calm and collected, he was able to plan his moves with precision and found cleaning the table relatively easy. His total time of 4:24 mins was good enough to finish behind Melling in second place. Surprisingly, newly crowned 2012 World 9Ball champion Daren Appleton was not able to find his rhythm, garnering four 10 second penalties and was the worst out of the British trio with a time of 6:27 mins. Meanwhile, 2011 World 8Ball Champion Dennis Orcollo upstaged his compatriots Jeffrey De Luna and Roberto Gomez. His crackling time of 4:31 minutes was good enough to book the third best time of the day and a comfortable cushion heading into the second preliminary sessions.

THE 2012 GB9 NORTHERN MASTERS
New ground in British pool will be broken on Friday 13th July 2012. At the Puma Hotel in Daventry, the best American pool players in Great Britain will lock horns to contest Britain’s first ever professional 10-ball pool event at the 2012 GB9 Northern Masters.
For some time now, the code of 10-ball pool has been gathering pace across the globe with many players and fans alike considering it to be the ‘toughened up’ cousin of 9-ball. Whereas 9-ball is generally seen as a quick fire and cut-throat game, 10-ball rewards those whose safety games and tactical brains excel. A lot of the rules for 10-ball are the same as those found in 9-ball. These include pushing out after a dry break, three fouls resulting in loss of rack and for those of you who might be unfamiliar with the code, however, here is a brief rundown of the differences between 10-ball and 9-ball.
As is surely obvious from the name, 10-ball is played with 10 balls instead of 9. The first player to legally pot the 10 ball, however, still wins the rack.
The biggest difference of them all – 10-ball is a call shot game. Any shot not deemed to be an obvious, straight-line, single ball shot – combinations, banks and caroms for instance – MUST be nominated accordingly before a shot is played. If either a ball instead of that which was nominated falls into a pocket or the nominated ball falls into a pocket not nominated, the incoming player has the option to either play on or pass back to their opponent. If a ball is legally and correctly pocketed as nominated, even if other balls were pockets in addition to that which was nominated, the striker continues his innings. On the break off shot, however, no call is required and any potted ball entitles the breaker to continue at the table.

Dazzling Dyno claims top spot
2010 PARTYPOKER.COM Mosconi Cup MVP Darren Appleton gave his 2012 selection chances a massive boost in Qatar as he claimed the World 9 Ball Championship in dramatic style, beating China's Li Hewen 13-12 after leading 11-3 and 12-6.
The victory moves Appleton to the top of the 2012 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup European Rankings with Holland's Nick van den Berg staking his claim in second spot. Only the top two qualify automatically and these two are 17 points clear of third.
That position is occupied by Greece's Nikos Ekonomopoulos, whose Cinderella season may yet see him take his place in London in December as the first Greek ever to compete in the Mosconi Cup.
Other movers included Ralf Souquet who finally kick-started his season into gear with a bronze medal in Doha and the Kaiser shoots up 23 places to claim a top ten spot.

FOURSOME FROM TAIPEI ROUTS JAPAN TO WIN THE 2012 WORLD POOL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN BEIJING
Joy riding a powerful wave that had been building steadily all week, the four member Chinese-Taipei pool team cruised to an emphatic 4-0 finals victory over Japan, to lay claim to the 2012 World Pool Team Championship in the Beijing suburb of Tongzhou.
Today’s performance was yet another statement from the Taipei fearsome foursome of Chang Jun Lin, Ko Pin Yi, Fu Che Wei and female player Chieh Yu Chou. They were barely touched all week, and they showed the pool world how great individual talents can come together and perform as a well oiled machine with all parts working in harmony.
For Japan, their always smiling faces never seemed to go away, but their good fortune did. The Japanese had lived on a high wire for the last two days, winning two straight sudden death shoot outs to advance in the event.
Chinese-Taipei, though, made sure the finals never even got close to an anything’s-possible shoot out. Backed by the over 400 fans inside the Tonghzhou High School gymnasium, who had obviously taken to their cross-strait cousins after both China squads had been eliminated, the Taiwanese came out guns ablazing today. In the opening match of 8-ball doubles, the duo of Chang and Ko walloped Naoyuki Oi and Yukio Akakagariyama 6-0, to give Chinese-Taipei a 1-0 lead.
Japan looked like they would make a match of it in the second of today’s six scheduled matches, this one the 8-ball singles. Japan’s Toru Kuribayashi was up 5-2 in a race to 6, but a tenacious Fu clawed his way back. Tied at 5, Kuribayashi had the break shot but he scratched on the bust out, and Fu stepped up to clear his colors for the win, and a 2-0 finals lead.
