Burford overcomes Jones in an exciting thriller

Phil Burford (GBR) Foto: EPBF/AMM All British clash decided in the final rack
Thursday, 31 May 2012: In a tight match, Phil Burford (GBR) defeated his fellow countryman Richard Jones with 9:7.
Jones, the winner of last year’s Dynamic Austria Open in St. Johann, got the better start. He took a quick 2:0 lead over Burford. But the former European 9-ball Champion in Junior’s division, Burford, did not think about getting upset or irritated. To the contrary, he seemed to be calmer to more the match went on. Burford won the next three racks before Jones got another point in his account. At 3:3, both players had some missed shots in the 7th rack. However, the winner in the end was Jones to take a 4:3 lead. Then Burford executed a monster break shot and pocketed four balls. He finished the rest as well and tied the match again; 4:4. The next phase of the match was interesting and could have been deciding but none of the players got the momentum to leave the opponent behind. When leading 5:4, Burford made a bad mistake. He should have taken a two-rack lead but ran out of position for the 7-ball. He missed his next shot and brought Jones back in the match.
Jones said “thanks” and finished the rack. And if that was not already tough enough for young Burford, he miscued at his next break shot and faced some tough safety positions from Jones.
However, Jones was not able to wrest three fouls from Burford. Still Jones won the rack and took a 6:5 lead. That was again tied up by Burford in another break and run.

"Terminator" Niels Feijen with hi tech equipment Foto: B. Kaserer Scientists try to reveal the lasts secrets of pool billiards
The preparations for the tournament are in the final stage to be finalized. Up to eight tables will be in the LiveStream, including one feature table. The first players have already entered the arena and warm up. Tonight at 19:00 CET, IBPF President David Morris will call for the player’s meeting and players will then be informed about all details of this event. After that, another training session can be held. The first matches start at 09:00 CET on Thursday morning, May 31st.
Besides that, a very interesting examination takes place in the nearby poolhall “Ballazzo”. The Austrian Federation together with the Sports Institute of the University of Vienna has launched a project in order to find out the perfect motion and movement for pool players. In order to find that out, the best athletes of the Euro-Tour will be tested in an environment that is especially installed for them. The players look a little bit funny with all these cables and dots on them but the outcome of that research will definitely be more than interesting. “We have many questions to the scientists once these player’s data is all in the computer”, says Bernhard Kaserer from the Austrian federation, “we want to find out why player A can put 7G of speed in the cue ball on the break shot while player B can only put 3G in it”. “The reasons for that are biomotorical” explains Kaserer, “and we are using high tech equipment here in order to find these things out and provide our coaches with the results.”

2012 US Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest
The Mosconi Cup XIX - London York Hall 5 Old Ford Road Bethnal Green London E2 9PJ UNITED KINGDOM www.matchroompool.com
Wednesday 23 May 2012
It's Shane followed by Dechaine and Hatch
THE RACE for the second automatic spot on the 2012 American Mosconi Cup team is shaping up into a two-way dog fight between Mike Dechaine and Dennis Hatch following the US Open Ten Ball Championship in Las Vegas which concluded on Saturday May 19th.
Both players had high finishes with Dechaine placing 4th to move into third spot and Hatch finishing 5th/6th to take second position. Just a single point separates them and they lead fourth placed Stevie Moore by 30 points.
Dechaine made his Mosconi Cup debut in Las Vegas last year and performed well in a losing side, while Hatch grabbed MVP honours in his first ever Mosconi in 2009 and acquitted himself well at the York Hall the following year.
Standing at the top of the rankings is Shane van Boening and the South Dakota Kid looks a racing certainty to make the side as he towers above his countrymen by a whopping 130 points.

Marcus Chamat is the 2012 Interpool Open 9 Ball Champion!
The 8th Interpool Open - 2012 Interpool Gävle Södra Kungsgatan 20 Gävle Sweden www.biljardonline.se www.biljardforbundet.se

Daryl Peach and Imran Majid decided on a little Swedish adventure to the Interpool Open this weekend, accepting an invitation by organiser Marcus Chamat, instead of the long haul option of the US Open 10 Ball Championships in Las Vegas, and it paid dividends for both players too.
Daryl took the 20,000 Swedish Krone top prize for taking down the 10 Ball Challenge - the 24 man entry list was swollen with local talent as well as the top internationals, and Daryl couldn't have asked for a better start with a bye in the first round of 24. Then followed victories over (L16) Joakim Haugen - Norway 9-8, ( L8 ) Tomas Larrson - Sweden 9-1, ( L4 ) Tony Drago - Malta 7-3, and (Final) Andreas Gerwén - Sweden 7-6.
"I had a choice of going to the usual Vegas trip for the US 10ball or this event as I was invited by Marcus Chamat. I accepted Marcus' invitation and I am so glad I did... Awesome event in an awesome venue, with great crowds... The people here are so friendly!", said a delighted Daryl Peach.
On the second day, the main 9 ball event started with 136 players including such pool luminaries as Tony Drago, Denis Grabe, Tom Storm, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Ewa Mataya Laurance, Kristoffer Mindreboe, Joakim Haugen, and Mats Schietne.
The superstars all did fairly well in this fiercely handicapped event, although one or two did fall along the way, but quite remarkably, the Semi-Finals were an All Brit vs All Swede affair! Marcus Chamat (SWE) v (GBR) Imran Majid, and Daryl Peach (GBR) v (SWE) Tomas Larrson.
Marcus has a recent history of repeatedly reaching the final of this event, only to be beaten at the very last stage, and true to form Chamat beat Majid 11:3 to take his place for the final showdown alongside Peach who beat Larsson 11:6.
This time though, history didn't repeat itself, and finally, after a long run of runner up spots, Marcus can now proudly add his name to the trophy, as after an even start and the scores reaching 3-3, Marcus eventually finished the match with an 11:7 scoreline in his favour.
Kurt Roos, President of The Swedish Billiard Federation said, "We would like to thank all international and national players for taking part in this happening for pool. It´s a player party you can say for a three day period. Nearly €12 000 was paid out in the 9-ball handicap tournament and the 10-ball Challenge events."
"Daryl Peach played solid through out the weekend and took the 10-ball crown and runner up in the handicap tournament. Congrats from Sweden Daryl for a impressive performance in a tough competition. Chamat finally made it happen that the title in the main event, the handicap tournament stayed in his hometown. As mentioned earlier players like Morris and Hundal have been stealing the trophy for the last years."
"We like to thank all participants that made this weekend what it has become. A great party for three days with two great tournaments."
