 | Marcus Chamat is the 2012 Interpool Open 9 Ball Champion! |
The 8th Interpool Open - 2012 Interpool Gävle Södra Kungsgatan 20 Gävle Sweden www.biljardonline.se www.biljardforbundet.se
Friday-Sunday 18/19/20 May 2012

Daryl Peach and Imran Majid decided on a little Swedish adventure to the Interpool Open this weekend, accepting an invitation by organiser Marcus Chamat, instead of the long haul option of the US Open 10 Ball Championships in Las Vegas, and it paid dividends for both players too.
Daryl took the 20,000 Swedish Krone top prize for taking down the 10 Ball Challenge - the 24 man entry list was swollen with local talent as well as the top internationals, and Daryl couldn't have asked for a better start with a bye in the first round of 24. Then followed victories over (L16) Joakim Haugen - Norway 9-8, ( L8 ) Tomas Larrson - Sweden 9-1, ( L4 ) Tony Drago - Malta 7-3, and (Final) Andreas Gerwén - Sweden 7-6.
"I had a choice of going to the usual Vegas trip for the US 10ball or this event as I was invited by Marcus Chamat. I accepted Marcus' invitation and I am so glad I did... Awesome event in an awesome venue, with great crowds... The people here are so friendly!", said a delighted Daryl Peach.
On the second day, the main 9 ball event started with 136 players including such pool luminaries as Tony Drago, Denis Grabe, Tom Storm, Torbjörn Blomdahl, Ewa Mataya Laurance, Kristoffer Mindreboe, Joakim Haugen, and Mats Schietne.
The superstars all did fairly well in this fiercely handicapped event, although one or two did fall along the way, but quite remarkably, the Semi-Finals were an All Brit vs All Swede affair! Marcus Chamat (SWE) v (GBR) Imran Majid, and Daryl Peach (GBR) v (SWE) Tomas Larrson.
Marcus has a recent history of repeatedly reaching the final of this event, only to be beaten at the very last stage, and true to form Chamat beat Majid 11:3 to take his place for the final showdown alongside Peach who beat Larsson 11:6.
This time though, history didn't repeat itself, and finally, after a long run of runner up spots, Marcus can now proudly add his name to the trophy, as after an even start and the scores reaching 3-3, Marcus eventually finished the match with an 11:7 scoreline in his favour.
Kurt Roos, President of The Swedish Billiard Federation said, "We would like to thank all international and national players for taking part in this happening for pool. It´s a player party you can say for a three day period. Nearly €12 000 was paid out in the 9-ball handicap tournament and the 10-ball Challenge events."
"Daryl Peach played solid through out the weekend and took the 10-ball crown and runner up in the handicap tournament. Congrats from Sweden Daryl for a impressive performance in a tough competition. Chamat finally made it happen that the title in the main event, the handicap tournament stayed in his hometown. As mentioned earlier players like Morris and Hundal have been stealing the trophy for the last years."
"We like to thank all participants that made this weekend what it has become. A great party for three days with two great tournaments."

 | Big Changes ahead for Snooker |
The 2012 BetFred.com World Snooker Championships The Crucible Theatre 55 Norfolk Street Sheffield S1 1DA www.betfred.com www.worldsnooker.com
21 April - 7 May 2012

Ronnie O'Sullivan - 2012 BetFred.com World Snooker Champion All photography ©John-Patrick Fletcher - used by Pro9 with express permission. Big Changes ahead for Snooker
Having defeated Ali Carter 18-11, Ronnie O'Sullivan has now won the World Snooker Championships four times. In doing so he officially moves into the elite group of snooker players in history where his fans have always believed he belongs. It has been a long road for Ronnie to get here when you consider his various personal issues during a career spanning eighteen seasons at the very top of the game. A harsh critic may say four World Titles is underperforming for Ronnie, such is the genius of his talent. He has been in four finals, winning all of them. Regardless of how many titles he could have won he now holds a haul of World Titles that matches his impact on the baize. Well done to him.
The subplot to the World Snooker Championships was the changes about to hit the game. The World Snooker Championships at The Crucible, lauded every year by the nostalgic TV commentary team of past top professionals such as Ken Doherty, Dennis Taylor, Willie Thorne, John Virgo, Stephen Hendry, Neal Foulds and Steve Davis was the only tournament not tweaked by World Snooker supremo Barry Hearn as he looks to have the impact of snooker that he had on the PDC Darts, which has enjoyed a renaissance under his control. So far one frame shootout tournaments where there is one prize, Powerplay Snooker and shortened tournament formats have been introduced to freshen up Snookers appeal.
Next season, the changes continue with a fifty week season containing twenty six tournaments. Rankings will be decided not by points, but by prize money. It is a far cry from a season consisting of six ranking tournaments across the year where the players who were in the top sixteen were highly liked to remain in there. Breaking into the elite top sixteen was difficult and rarely achieved. The same players won tournament after tournament and the game was structured to heavily reward those at the top. There was no strength in depth in terms of tour quality and it showed with little movement for a generation in terms of the regular players we watched on television.

BWPPA Ranking Event No.2 - The Dynamic Midlands 9 Ball Open Rileys American Pool and Snooker - Birmingham 21-22 Essex Street Birmingham West Midlands B5 4TL www.bwppa.org www.rileys.co.uk
Saturday/Sunday 28/29 April 2012
Tony Southern Southern takes the crown and top spot in the rankings
The BWPPA held its 2nd event of the 2012 season over the weekend of the 28th/29th April 2012 with the Dynamic Billiards Midlands 9-ball Open held at Rileys Birmingham. The tour was hit by a few absences from regular players for various reasons. Despite this, the event still attracted a strong field of 14 players, and there was some great pool on show as usual at these events.
“The Sandman” Roy Kimberley has been no 1 on the tour since it’s inception in 2004. Coming into the event he was under pressure from Tony Southern in 2nd spot, who was only 10 ranking points behind.
