2011 GB9 NORTHERN MASTERS, PRO CUP III, CHALLENGE CUP III
The 2011 edition of the Northern Masters has concluded with Craig Osborne, Tony Drago and Shaun Storry reigning supreme in the weekend's three competitions. This was the second of the three quick fire events in the GB9 calendar, and players were expecting to be fresh from the Paul Medati Trophy back in June. Knowing that the Southern Masters is less than four weeks away itself, every one of the 144 players was looking to pick up a head of steam that they can keep up as the season starts to take some real shape.

 | 2011 US Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest |
The Mosconi Cup XVIII - Las Vegas Matchroom Sport Las Vegas Nevada USA www.matchroompool.com www.matchroomsport.com
Results correct at: 10 August 2011

Shane Cements No.1 Spot with Rhode Island Romp
FOLLOWING VICTORY at the recent Seminole Pro Tour stop in Rhode Island, Shane Van Boening moved to the top of the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup USA Rankings as he closed in on a fifth consecutive appearance in the prestigious transatlantic event.
The "South Dakota Kid" defeated England's Darren Appleton 11-6 in the final, to leap-frog over Mike Dechaine, who himself finished ninth, and secure the leading spot. Corey Deuel maintained his position at #3 with a 17th place finish.
Elsewhere, Mosconi Cup veterans Johnny Archer and Rodney Morris edged into the frame with strong finishes and they now occupy sixth and seventh positions respectively. With three events left to play, the situation is delicately balanced with just 4.5 points separating positions 5, 6 and 7, giving Dennis Hatch, Archer and Morris all a fair chance of making the Vegas-bound squad.

 | Bonus Photographs from the 2011 GB9 Northern Masters |

 Bonus photos from Daventry
John Patrick (JP) Fletcher generously shares with Pro9, a small selection of a large number of photos acquired at the recent GB 9 Ball Tour Northern Masters in Northampton. These photos and more can be viewed for free, or purchased at very reasonable prices from the PhotoBox site in the links listed above.
JP said, "First of all I want to say thank you to the GB9 staff for organizing another highly professional US pool tournament and allowing me to photograph the tournament, which again brought out the best talent from all four corners of the British Isles to the GB9 Northern Masters."
"I also want to thank all the GB9 players, friends, partners and their families for putting up with me over the tournament, seeing some big lump with a camera walk up and down the hall every 5 minutes. but I'm sure as you'll appreciate the results speak for themselves and make you all proud of who you supported during the tournament."
"Seeing the tournament from the back of a lens I witnessed close matches again at the GB9, which no one could take their eyes off, and nearly all displayed by the new talent coming into the GB9. As an ex-GB9, myself I was proud to see all the new talent coming out, showing what they got, and holding their own against some more experienced tour players. It just proves that pool in this country will have a long and prosperous future with the help of the GB 9 Ball Tour."
"Once again thank you to GB9's staff and players, Barceló hotel and Pro9.co.uk."

Portuguese beat Swedes in Team Final of European Seniors Championships
Saturday, 13 August 2011: Team Portugal defeated Team Sweden in the final of the Dynamic European Seniors Championships with a clear 3:0 victory.
The final match was not so much a thriller as the earlier matches were. The results were quite obvious in favour of the Portuguese. Henrique Correia (POR) smashed Kent Karlsson (SWE) with 7:3 in the 10-ball encounter. Luis Torres (POR) played Magnus Lindgren (SWE) in 9-ball. Lindgren made too many mistakes and was at no point in time able to put pressure on Torres.

 2011 EVENT 3 - GB9 NORTHERN MASTERS
The GB 9 Ball Tour has returned once again to the Barceló Hotel in Daventry for the third of this season's events, the GB9 Northern Masters - hot on the heels of last month's Paul Medati Trophy in which Chris Melling, Matthew Lawrenson and Darren Appleton took the medal's in the Main, Challenge and Pro events.
There's no Appleton at this event as he is currently slicing his way through the field on the Seminole Pro Tour in Rhode Island at the moment, but there's plenty of stellar talent to fill the void including the much talked about Craig Osborne, recent winner of the Total9Ball Championship Of The South tournament, and favourite to represent Team England, alongside Allison Fisher in Dragon Promotion's World Mixed Doubles, being broadcast on ESPN in China next month...
...No pressure mate!
Editor's update: This challenging comment was laid down by Pro9 early on Saturday 6 August 2011... Craig "Shotgun" Osborne delivered the goods on the evening of Sunday 7 August, overcoming Imran Majid 11-9 in the final of the 144 player main event of the GB 9 Ball Tour's Northern Masters. Congratulations Craig... No pressure at all! ;o)

10-Ball Tournament for Women Players in Finland
Here's another tournament, organised by the players, for the players - and this time it's the ladies of Finland who have shown the initiative and sorted out a superb two venue competition - culminating in a shopping centre show-down for the finalists.
Live streaming was provided free of charge at both the group stages in the lovely BilliardCircus Kivenlahti, as well as at the final Kamppi Shopping Centre. Photos and results are updated here, and at the official websites linked above.
Early shock results included Ine Helvik, who commuted between Norway and Britain just so she could play on the GB9 Ball Tour, lost her first group match 4-6 against local Finnish player Nita Viitala. Helvik didn;t let that one slip affect her overall performance and proceeded to qualify from her group and eventually bowed out in the semifinal stage, finishing joint 3rd with Italy's Barbara Bolfelli.
The two finalists were predicted by the knowledgeable pool fans from a very early stage, Sweden's Caroline Roos and Finland's Marika Poikkijoki were the early favourites, and they didn't fail the pundits - although the final match could have gone either way. Roos had looked invincible from the very start of the event, and it was the Swede, dressed all in black, who made the best of the ultimate game, out-playing her final opponent by the slimmest of margins to take the title with a 8-5 victory!

"Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March, I have decided to donate all of the prize money I may win this season to the Japan Red Cross for their relief efforts."
"As I have traveled all around Japan, including the disaster stricken areas, to take part in challenge matches with amateur players, I have received much support from the billiards community in the Tohoku and Kanto regions, so the problems they are facing were never something I could just dismiss."
"I feel deeply sorry for all those who died, remain missing, or still languish in public shelters like refugees in their own country."
