Dynamic Euro-Tour Austria - Richard Jones is the Champion!

Richard Jones - Great Britain “It feels absolutely amazing, it’s a dream come true”!
In high class final, Richard Jones crushed Serge Das and won the match with 9:5, becoming the 2011 Dynamic Euro-Tour Austrian Open Champion.
Jones had the far better start and seemed to be much more in gear than Das. He was leading already 3:1 when he executed a perfect jump shot over the entire table, pocketing the 1-ball and getting a tough position for the 2-ball. He also made the 2-ball and ran the rack to take a 4:1 lead over Das. More than that, he showed Das that he was ready for becoming a Champion today.
In the 6th rack, Das broke and scratched. Jones ran the balls… and missed the 7-ball! That did cost him some momentum. “It was a twitch”, said Jones later, “I knew that if I would make the lead bigger and bigger, it would be hard for Serge to come back”.
But Serge Das came back. After the mistake, the match went along and got tighter since Das managed to close the gap a bit. At the score of 6:5 for Jones, Das broke the balls. No ball went in and safeties were exchanged. Das forced Jones to play a foul. He then played another good safe on Jones since the balls were still not open. Jones answered that with a marvellous resafe which forced Das to play a foul shot. Jones ran the rack and took a 7:5 lead. Then Jones broke and ran and went on the hill which probably broke Das’ neck.

2011 World Cup of Pool - World Cup qualifier set for Sunday
PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool 2011 European Qualifier Event Alpina Wellness & Sporthotel Alpendorf 8 - 5600 Sankt Johann im Pongau Austria www.matchroompool.com
Sunday 10 July 2011
Two spots available for Euro hopefuls
WITH THE 2011 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool taking place from 6 – 11 September in Manila, there are two spots in the main event up for grabs this Sunday 10th July as 13 pairs of European players battle it out for a trip to represent their country in the Philippines.
The venue is the Sporthotel Alpina in Sankt Johann, Alpendorf, Austria and there are a total of ten different nations competing with two pairs from Belgium and three from Norway. Under the format, only one pair from any one country may take a qualifying spot.
The top ranked playing competing is Estonia’s Dennis Grabe, currently No.32 on the Euro Tour rankings, and he pairs up with compatriot Erki Erm in a bid for World Cup glory.
Other notables in the field include Belgium’s Noel Bruynooghe, who along with Serge Das, reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup of Pool in 2007. He partners Olivier Mortier this time round.

Karl Boyes - Great Britain Tough matches with unexpected results
On the center match table, Albin Ouschan (AUT) defeated last year’s Euro-Tour Austria Open winner Karl Boyes (GBR) 9:5.
In the beginning, both players seemed to be much focussed. However, Karl Boyes left the better impression on the spectator. He broke and ran his first three racks without any doubt. Ouschan also won his first three racks but with a bit more trouble than Boyes. Then the curiosities started to happen.
Boyes broke at the score of 3:3 and the 9-ball went down to give him a small 4:3 lead. Then Ouschan had the break shot. He pocketed two balls but had no position on the three. Both players played safety shots on the 3-ball. When Ouschan tried to thin cut the 3-ball in the corner pocket, he missed it but the cue ball hit the 9-ball and pocketed it to tie the game at 4:4.
Then Ouschan managed to win the next two racks, getting a small advantage over Boyes. Boyes broke the balls after not having had much luck on his side, and the 9-ball went down while the cue ball also scratched. Boyes got frustrated. Ouschan ran out and took a 7:4 lead.
In the 12th rack, Lady Luck seemed to have thought about it once more and turned to Boyes again. He now also missed a ball and the cue ball unintentionally pocketed the 9-ball. The score turned to 7:5 in favour of Ouschan.

Dynamic Euro-Tour Austria - Van den Berg takes no prisoners

Spain's Del Santo-Sanz without a chance against European 9-Ball Champion
With an impressive performance, Nick van den Berg (NED) defeated Javier Del Santo-Sanz (ESP) with a clear 9:1 score. At no time in the match did Del Santo seem to have a real chance against the current European 9-Ball Champion.
Van den Berg had the first break shot and made no ball. Del Santo played a safety shot and forced van den Berg to play a foul. Then, the Spanish player failed to get position on the 5-ball and had to execute a jump shot. He almost pocketed the 5-ball but leaves an easy shot for Nick van den Berg who runs out to take the first rack.
Then Del Santo breaks the 9-ball but unfortunately for him, no more balls cross the head string or are pocketed so the break is counted as a “dry break” where the 9-ball is respotted and the opponent gets the option to accept the table and continue play. In this rack, both players played some safety shots until Del Santo gets the chance after a bad safety from van den Berg to take the rack. He misses an easy shot instead and van den Berg increases his lead to 2:0.
The next racks are all determined by two things: Safety play by both players and missed shots by Del Santo. One rack after the other goes into the account of the young Dutch player.
In the end, both players seemed to struggle with their break shot. Nick van den Berg was clearly better and more solid in pocketing balls on the table with these tight pockets. He therefore deserved the win and took the match with a clear 9:1.
After the match, van den Berg said: “Congratulations to the organizer on these tight pockets. They really make the difference. If you lose your focus for one single moment, you will be punished and the ball will not go in. These are real Championship tables”.

ABP Pro Players Not Attending the 2011 US Open 9-Ball Championship
Association of Billiard Professionals (ABP) From Dennis Walsh ABP General Attorney www.abp-players.com abppropool@gmail.com
7 July 2011
ABP Pro Players Not Attending the 2011 US Open
Chicago, Illinois- It is with regret that the general professional body of the Association of Billiard Professionals will not be attending the 2011 US Open 9-Ball Championship promoted by Mr.Barry Behrman. Nor will these ABP pros attend the Masters 10-Ball or any event promoted by Mr.Behrman because of monies owed to players and lack of secure funds of prize money before each of his events. One of the goals of the Association of Billiards Professionals is to provide a platform where touring professionals can pursue the sport they love as a full time career and achieve reasonable financial success. To that end discussions have been ongoing since last year with representatives of the US Open and representatives of the ABP. Repeated attempts by the ABP organization to obtain guarantees that the prize money will be in place have been refused and therefore it is with regret that the Association and its members have decided to neither support nor attend the 2011 US Open 9-Ball Championship. Notwithstanding the Association’s deep respect for Barry Behrman for his contribution to pool these many years, the players simply cannot commit their time and their expenses for an uncertain payday.

Wednesday is always arrival day at the Euro-Tour for most players. It is amazing to see how the venue has changed within a few hours. This morning, the picture was determined by people from the staff team working on different things in order to finish the final preparations of the venue.
Around noon, the first players arrived and accredited with the tournament desk. More and more players poured in as the afternoon went on. Now, after the player’s meeting has been held, the room is packed with Europe’s Elite Pool players. The venue where the tournament will be played is normally a tennis hall with four courts. However, this can hardly be determined at the moment. With the help of the hotel Alpina management and the local hosts around Theo Riedlecker and the UBSC Pongau, the hall has been turned into a top class place for top class pool billiards.

2011 European Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest
The Mosconi Cup XVIII - Las Vegas Matchroom Sport Las Vegas Nevada USA www.matchroompool.com www.matchroomsport.com
6 July 2011
No change at the top
THERE IS NO change among the top six players on top of the 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup European Rankings, after the conclusion of the World 9 Ball Championship in Qatar last week – and that now puts some considerable distance between the probables and the possibles.
No.1 ranked Chris Melling, increased his lead at the head of the table with a last 32 finish, while Darren Appleton and Ralf Souquet strengthened their positions by reaching the last 16, thus heaping pressure on Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg who failed to get in the points in Doha.
The biggest mover was England’s Mark Gray, a Mosconi Cup winner in Malta in 2008, who had a magnificent run to the semi-finals. He moves from 26th to 9th but trails the automatic third placed spot by 32 points.
