Dynamic Euro-Tour Austria about to begin
Diamond Nine - Euro-Tour / Dynamic Austrian Open Alpina Wellness & Sporthotel Alpendorf 8 - 5600 Sankt Johann im Pongau Austria www.epbf.com www.eurotouronline.eu www.sporthotel-alpina.com
Thursday-Saturday 7-9 July 2011
Over 175 players from 34 nations will come to St. Johann
Out of the Top 20 ranked players of the Euro-Tour rankings, only Spanish David Alcaide and French Stephan Cohen are missing in this week’s event. The other 18 will be joined by more than 150 players from all over Europe. Even some participants from Asia are expected to come and play in the Alpina Sports Hotel in Alpendorf, St. Johann. Players come from far away countries like India, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Thailand and even three players from Sri Lanka are heralded to arrive in Austria for the event.
The venue consists of 23 Dynamic II tables, additionally introducing the brand new Dynamic III as the feature table #24. The main arena will again be surrounded by a digital panel which is composed of 18 LCD screens. This will offer the sponsors a superb opportunity to display their advertisement in the final arena.
While local superstar Jasmin Ouschan had to cancel
Unfortunately, Austrian Superstar player Jasmin Ouschan had to cancel her participation today due to health reasons. That reduces the Austrian contingency to 19 players, including Jasmin’s brother and father.

IT'S YUKIO!
YUKIO AKAKARIYAMA WINS THE 2011 WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH A BRILLIANT 13-11 WIN OVER RONNIE ALCANO. With a super cool demeanor and a red hot stroke, Yukio Akakariyama of Japan won the 2011 World 9-ball Championship, defeating the Philippines Ronnie Alcano in a tense and scintillating finals match on Friday night, 13-11.
Akakariyama won the title with a brilliant display of pressure packed 9-ball before a cheering partisan crowd of close to 1500 people, most of them Filipinos, at the Al Sadd Sports Club in Doha, Qatar.
The victory capped what has been a tremendous recent surge for the 36 year old. Back in May Akakariyama made it to the semi-finals of the World 10-ball Championship in Manila. Then in early June, he placed 5th at the China Open in Shanghai.
In Doha Akakariyama played solid and steady all week. But he also had moments when mistakes crept into his game, especially late in matches during the knockout stages, when the pressure became too much to bear. But always the 36 year old from Nagano quietly sucked it up, and got right back down to business and made it across the finish line. It’s exactly what happened on Friday night.
The match had just about everything fans of championship 9-ball could ask for. The lead and the momentum swung both ways on several occasions, and the outcome was in doubt right up until the last ball dropped; both players made jaw dropping shots and strung racks together while showing absolute mastery of the table. Each player committed a handful of errors too, but under the weight of the moment this was to be expected, and in fact made the match an even more nerve jangling affair.

2011 WPA World 9-Ball Championships - And Then There Were Four!

Saturday 21 June - Friday 1 July 2011
AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR
ORCULLO, ALCANO, GRAY AND AKAKARIYAMA REACH THE SEMI-FINALS OF THE WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER LEGENDARY DAY IN POOL HISTORY After what has to be one of the most memorable and exciting days in the history of championship pool, the Philippines Dennis Orcullo and Ronnie Alcano, England’s Mark Gray, and Japan’s Yukio Akakariyama all made it into the semi-finals of the World 9-ball Championship in Doha, Qatar.
One semi-final will be an all-Filipino affair between former World 9-ball Champion Alcano, and the world’s current number one ranked player, Orcullo. The other semi-final will feature Gray vs. Akakarayima. Both race to 11, alternate break matches will begin at 3pm local time Friday, July 1(GMT +3). The race to 13 alternate break final will begin later at 7pm.
It would be hard to imagine that the last three matches of this year’s World 9-ball Championship could produce any more drama than has already occurred but the way things went Thursday evening, anything must be possible. Two of the race to 11 matches went to a sudden death decider. Another one went to the 20th rack. World class players were reduced to rubble under the tortuous pressure; normally gimme-type pots became impossible makes; the second you figured you knew what was about to happen, something unheard of occurred.
The day began at the Al Sadd Sports Club in Doha at 10am with 32 players remaining. By the time the quarter finals rolled around in the evening session, there had already been enough nail biting drama to last years. What happened in the quarter finals produced enough heart stopping moments to last a lifetime.

GREAT ESCAPES INTO THE SWEET 16
BUSTAMANTE BARELY SQUEAKS BY; BIADO AND GRAY WIN HILL-HILL SKIRMISHES AS THE WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP IS DOWN TO THE FINAL 16 Defending champion Francisco Bustamante of the Philippines barely hung on in his round of 32 match against relative unknown Indonesian player Setiawan Riyan, escaping with an 11-10 victory to move into the round of 16 at the World 9-ball Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Playing on the TV table, Bustamante looked to be cruising along as he led Setiwan 9-4. In the 14th frame, however, Bustamante was distracted by a press photographer snapping pictures nearby. From there on, the Hall of Famer seemed to lose his composure, and descended into a foul mood, as Setiwan slowly chipped away at the lead. Bustamante managed to get the score line to 10-7, but then made a handful of uncharacteristic mistakes that allowed the Indonesian back in the match. The Filipino great broke in the final rack and prevailed after Setiawan scratched after trying to escape a safety.
The defending champion only had five minutes to gather himself to do battle in the round of 16 with compatriot and world number 1 ranked player Dennis Orcullo. Orcullo, who desperately wants to win this title, earlier defeated upstart Filipino Marlon Caneda, 11-6 who had defeated Efren Reyes the previous night.

DAZLIN DARYL IS IN IT TO WIN IT - FORMER CHAMP PEACH PUTS IN A MARVELOUS PERFORMANCE AS THE DAY OF RECKONING DAWNS AT THE WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN QATAR Wild finishes, unpredictable outcomes up until the very last ball, plenty of star power and pressure galore were all key ingredients of two very memorable evening sessions in the 64 player knockout stage at the World 9-ball Championship in Doha today. But as the tournament heads into the business side of things on Thursday’s day of reckoning, where the field will be reduced from 32 to 4, it’s instructive for fans and students of the game to pay attention to one awesome performance that sent a shot across the bow to the remaining players in field.
While every single one of the over 500 fans inside the Al Sadd Sports Club was focused on the TV table, and a match between their hero, Efren Reyes of the Philippines, and unknown Filipino Marlon Caneda, England’s Daryl Peach quietly put on one of the strongest performances of the tournament so far. And in the process, the 2007 World 9-ball champion announced to all that he came to Doha with every intention to reclaim the prize that was once his.
Interestingly Peach faced the very man whom he defeated in Manila in ’07 to win pool’s most prestigious title, the Philippines’ Roberto Gomez. On any other day, this intriguing matchup would have screamed marquee, but with Reyes and Francisco Bustamante also playing, most in the crowd barely noticed.
Too bad because Peach was simply sensational. After Gomez got out to a 2-1 lead, Peach literally steamrolled the Filipino, quickly piling on the racks to make the score 6-2 in the race to 11, alternate break match. Everything the Englishman did was as it should be—good breaking, solid potting, confident safeties--and soon he was up 9-3. By the time it ended at 11-4, Gomez walked away with his tail between his legs, while Peach was jacked to the gills.
“That was perfect pool,” the Dazzler said as he walked off the table. “I think I missed one ball, at the end.”

Rebirth! Allison Fisher Wins US Open
2011 WPBA US Open Championship River Spirit Casino 8330 Riverside Parkway Tulsa Oklahoma USA www.wpba.com www.riverspirittulsa.com
16-19 June 2011
2011 WPBA US Open Champion Allison Fisher, The Duchess of Doom Rebirth! Allison Fisher Wins US Open
Tulsa, Oklahoma USA- It had been a very long 39 months since England's Allison Fisher had won a WPBA Pro Tour stop title. And over 4 years had passed since her last US Open finals. Amazingly, it had been almost as long since her last ESPN match appearance in the United States. What had once become a routine custom to see the "Duchess of Doom" at the end of every event (and usually winning it), had now become a high mountain to climb for her. With Asian dominance in women's pool the new standard, and teenage World Champions coming out of the woodwork left and right, it seemed to some that Allison's best days were well behind her. Fisher changed the minds of all doubters worldwide by winning her 5th US Open Championship last week.
Fisher's last WPBA Win in San Diego years ago almost seemed like a farewell to an illustrious career... Her win at this year's US Open by no means was easy. Allison came straight from Shanghai,China where she had a disappointing finish with only one match win. A 15 hour flight there and a 15 hour flight back to Tulsa is not something anyone would take well after a bad loss. "I reminded Allison before her first match, that despite the last tournament, she was actually playing the best pool of her life", said Charlie Williams, Fisher's coach and manager with Dragon Promotions. "Pool is just a numbers game. Keep playing well and eventually you will win tournaments."

PINOY PRIDE AS LEE VAN CORTEZA AND 16 OTHER FILIPINOS ADVANCE TO THE FINAL 64 OF THE WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN DOHA (Doha, Qatar)--The Philippines made history tonight on the fourth day of the 2011 World 9-ball Championship in Doha, Qatar as the group stages came to a close after four days of exciting pool action.
When Lee Van Corteza pulled away from Sweden’s Marcus Chamat in the last session of the day, and won what had been a very close match, 9-6, it meant that a record setting 17 Filipino players had advanced to the 64 player, single elimination knockout stage which begins on Wednesday.
It’s not difficult to do the math and come up with the astounding result. Over one quarter of the players in the final 64 in the most prestigious pool tournament in the world are Filipinos. The onslaught of Pinoys making a serious run at the World Championship this year runs the gamut of the Philippine pool spectrum: from the legends, the new breed of stars who have risen to the top in recent years, the young guns who have just emerged, all the way down to the unknowns who ply their trade anonymously in the deserts of the Middle East.
