After three days of play the 2011 Philippine Open, the fields are now down to just sixteen men and twelve ladies.
Possibly the biggest surprise in the men's division is the play of Iran's Tahkti Zarekani. With wins over Shinya Inoue, Jerico Banares and Hwang Yong, Zarekani is proving that his recent 5th place finish at the World 8-Ball Championship was no fluke. Zarekani will be tested on day four by Haitao Liu.
Other matches on the winners side will see Antonio Lining taking on Lee Van Corteza, Marcus Chamat facing Thorsten Hohmann and Darren Appleton playing Ralf Souquet.

Stephan Cohen - France Dynamic European Championship ends with the 10-ball finals
The 2011 EPBF European 10-ball Champions are Jasmin Ouschan (AUT), Stephan Cohen (nothing) and Jouni Tahti (FIN).
In the men’s final, two players met with a long history in European pool billiard. Stephan Cohen and Radoslaw Babica (POL) wanted to see who will be the sharpest blade in 10-ball… In the first racks, Cohen always started playing good safety shots, leaving nothing to do for Babica but trying to hit the ball on. Babica played two fouls and Cohen benefitted from that. He managed to lead 4:1 over Babica when the tide turned and Babica suddenly got the better breaks and won rack after rack. Babica took a 6:4 lead over Cohen, coming to the table with his own break. He knew he could put quite some pressure on his opponent of he broke and ran the rack… but he scratched on the break. Again, Lady Luck changed sides and things went better for Cohen. The French ran the rack and play another run out straight after, taking a 7:6 lead. With Cohen being on the hill, Babica came to the table again and had to break. He had no position and another safety battle evolved. Babica found himself with a long but possible shot on the 8-ball. He pocketed the 8 and the cue ball scratched. Cohen went to the table, pocketed the two remaining balls and seized the title of European Champion.

Gerda Hoffstatter and Jasmin Ouschan - Austria Ouschan snatches another title - Larsson takes title in wheelchair division
Jasmin Ouschan is the 2011 EPBF European Champion in the Women’s 9-Ball division.
Jasmin took a quick 3:1 lead over Gerda. She opened the next rack with a powerful break. She had no position on the 2-ball so she decided to simply banked it in. “We have seen everything already so far – bank shots, combinations, kick shots… she just seems to never miss” comments the official commentator of the LiveStream matches Marco Takis. Jasmin ran the rack and took a 4:1 lead, making the game look so easy. Then Gerda played a good break shot and ran the balls until she got no position on the 6-ball. She left a safety for Jasmin who tried to play a jump shot but she scratched. Gerda ran the remaining balls and got closer, making the score 2:4. Another break and run followed from Jasmin to go to 5:2. Then it was Gerda’s break shot. Two balls went down but there was no shot on the 1-ball. Gerda played a push out, leaving a combination shot for Jasmin. Jasmin pocketed the combination shot dead centre and ran the whole rack, making the score 6:2. That put her on the hill with her own break shot to come up. She pocketed the 1-ball in the side pocket but got no position on the 2-ball. She let Gerda get to the table again because she missed the 2-ball.
Gerda had a long shot and she missed, leaving a shot in turn for Jasmin. Jasmin pocketed the 2-ball but then scratched on the 3-ball. Gerda got to the table with ball in hand. She ran some balls and fell straight on the 7-ball. By trying to play position for the 8-ball, Gerda tried to cheat the pocket and missed. The tables have very tight pockets. Jasmin got to the table and played another combination shot, sinking the 9-ball. She defended her title from last year in the 9-ball division as well as in straight pool.

Legends and Champions "Bad Blood" Challenge: Archer vs Strickland Drifters Pool Room 3223 Cornhusker Hwy Lincoln Nebraska USA www.tvmike.tv www.drifterspoolroom.com www.runoutmedia.com www.legendschampions.com www.johnnyarcher.net

Johnny Archer talks about practice, money matches, and Earl's ear muffs!
Pro9 Hi Johhny, thanks for taking time to talk to us at Pro9... You've got a lot of fans in Europe and we're all very interested in the "Bad Blood 1" event coming in April between you and Earl Strickland, can you tell us how this tournament came about? Who's idea was it, is there really some bad feeling between you two, or are you actually the best of friends? How important is it to you to win this match?
Johnny "Mark (Cantrill) and I were talking one day and we were talking about putting on a Challenge match and who we would like to play each other. Earl's name came to mind because him and I have played against each other a long time in professional events but never a long challenge match."
"Over the last few years there has been some significant tension between us going back to the Mosconi Cup when, in my opinion, he broke off the team and played on his own team, which brought tension to all players and their ability to focus as a team on winning in a positive environment. Although I've always looked up to Earl since I started playing back in the 80's, I really watched his style of play, but never his behavior. I feel like over the years Earl has become angry with fans and other players including myself and it has really upset me because I have always liked Earl and stood up for him against everybody."
"It is very important to me to win because I hate to lose but mostly it's not about the money; maybe more of a challenge to myself to beat once again one of the World's all time Greatest players."

8-ball Championship has its winners
The European Champions in 8-ball have been decided. Dominic Jentsch defeated Ralf Souquet in a very one-sided final. Ralf made too many mistakes, very unusual for “The Kaiser”. In the first rack, he committed a foul and Jentsch ran out. Jentsch played solid during the entire match and grasped the gold medal, winning 8:1 in the final match.

Straight Pool Champions Crowned - Ouschan and Kaplan take the first merits
The first two titles of the 2011 Dynamic European Championships have been awarded. Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) and Tomasz Kaplan (POL) are 2011 EPBF European Straight Pool Champions.
The match between Kaplan and Fabio Petroni started not good for the young Polish player. He opened the match with a safety shot that was not too good. Petroni made 13 balls but he failed to get position on the last two balls. He missed a shot and brought Kaplan back to the table. Kaplan also missed and Petroni played 2 more balls. “I was very nervous”, the Italian player admitted after the final, “I was very focussed but my nervousness forced errors on me. My opponent was in dead stroke and I had no chance in this match”, said Petroni. Then Kaplan got back to the table and ran 56 and 66 balls. Leading 122:18, he was almost sure to win the match. Petroni got another chance to play a combination shot after Kaplan has played a safety. But Petroni missed and left te balls open for Kaplan to become the first Polish player ever to win a title in the Men’s or Women’s division.
“I am so happy, I cannot even find the right words to say”, said an emotional Kaplan after the finals. “This victory means a lot for me and my country.”
