Korea have won this most prestigious event for two years in a row now as Ga Young Kim takes the 2011 title following in the steps of 2010 winner Yu Ram Cha - indeed it was Yu Ram Cha who eliminated Young in last year's final, and it was a case of "revenge is sweet" as Young ejected Cha in the quarters this year!
Once again this event's very international field of talented players was sponsored by Amway, and supported by the Sports Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan, Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and Sports Federation, and hosted at the delightful A-Zone of TaiMall Shopping Center in Taiwan.

Bonus Ball's Barry Bremner
Pro9 How did you get into promoting pool.
Barry Bremner "Promoting is not a new game for me. I grew up racing cars and always had a passion for the sport. I eventually began helping a friend of mine promote his speedway that he had purchased. It was all amateur drivers but I promoted them like they were professionals. I did hundreds of hours of promotional materials, caught the attention of the local media and solicited a local television company to do a weekly show on the sport. In three years the car count and fan attendance tripled. However, I felt I had achieved all I could for that level of sport and retired from racing. It was then that I first picked up a cue! A friend invited me to join an Eight Ball league. I really enjoyed shooting balls around so that was how I got hooked on pool. Being a competitive racer, naturally I was attracted to the league concept and enjoyed watching everybody's statistics week to week, especially my own!"
"One day I was asked to run a local bar pool tournament. I had no clue how a pool tournament should be run so, being Canadian and a hockey nut, I drew up a round robin event with play-offs. The players all came in and looked at me as if I lost my mind. They played and they loved it! Everybody played each other two games and I tallied up their points at the end of the day. Then I went took the top four in points and matched them up in races to four, just like hockey! Everybody played all day long! It was a huge success with the players and the bar! Within a few months, I had a packed house of players that would play from noon until 8:00 at night. Problem was, I needed more tables. I moved the tournament to a local billiard room, treated the players like stars and called the tournament, the Winnipegpool.com Super Series. Winnipegpool.com was the name of my friends pool website. I limited the entry to Vegas and under players, because the top Super Vegas players scared off players. Eventually, I got kicked out of my own tournament. LOL"
"The tournament kept going with other promoters and still is the biggest tournament in Winnipeg, playing a great format! I even added a new rule that had players on tilt! They said, "You can't change the rules of pool!" Why the the heck not if it makes it more fun to play! I made it that if a player ran you out, you had a chance to re-rack and try and get some points! I hated getting run-out! The first time it happened, I sat there and thought...this is dumb, I just lost without getting to the table! I didn't like that at all! I could lose quite well on my own, I wanted a chance to play! Each ball was worth one point and a win was a 3 point bonus, for a total of 10 points. If you ran-out, I added on another 3 points for a total of 13 points. We did have many 13-13 games which were very exciting to watch. So when a player got run-out, he didn't lose 13-0, he had a chance to earn some points. Dry breaking killed you because the score would be 13-0! Most learned to become better breakers real quick! That was the beginning of my pool promoting. Pretty fun!"

All photography ©Andrew Warden/belleza-photography.co.uk - used with permission. 144 players commence Season 4 of the GB 9 Ball Tour
The Barceló Daventry Hotel will play host to all five tour events this year, and no less than 144 of Britain's best pool players descended on the favoured Northamptonshire venue this weekend.
There were some new faces at Daventry, players who won spots on the tour during regional qualifying tournaments held earlier this year, aiming to see how they stack up against more seasoned players, and hoping to make their mark in the GB9 Challenge Division.
There arel also the regular international class players, familiar names to pool players and fans around the world - Peach, Majid, and Boyes, but sadly no Darren Appleton, as he has relocated to the USA for the next 12 months.
A new year, a fresh start, a new hope - good luck to all, from everyone at Pro9!

10 March 2011

Van den Berg Maintains Top Spot
HOLLAND’S NICK VAN DEN BERG, a member of the victorious European side last December in London, kept the No.1 spot in the European Mosconi Cup rankings following a last eight finish at the recent WPA World 8 Ball Championship in Fujairah, UAE.
The 30 year-old Dutchman will be looking to make his fourth Mosconi Cup appearance on the 8th to 11th December when the event takes place at a yet to be announced Las Vegas venue.
The big climber is fellow Dutchman Niels Feijen who moves from 16th place up to second after making his second consecutive World 8 Ball final appearance. Feijen is a veteran of six Mosconi Cups and was on the winning side in 2007 and ’08.
2010 Mosconi Cup MVP, Darren Appleton, maintains his position in the top three following a semi-final appearance in the Middle East.

 | Justin Collett talks exclusively to Pro9 about upcoming TAR 20 |
TAR 20 : Earl Strickland vs Shane Van Boening Ice Breakers Youngstown Ohio USA www.theactionreport.com
Friday-Sunday 18-20 March 2011
TAR's Justin Collett talks business about the industry, Shane, Earl and more...
Pro9 Hi Justin, thanks for taking time to talk to us at Pro9... How has business been for TAR over the last 12 months - is it everything you hoped it would be, do you think the future is looking positive for your business? Could you tell us a little about the TAR personnel, what they do at TAR etc?
Justin "Over the last year we have done some exciting things. We streamed the US Open 10 Ball event in Vegas last May, which we will be doing again this year in addition to the US Open One Pocket event put on by Cue Sports International. We had our most successful match ever with TAR 19 Mika Immonen vs Shane Van Boening at Amsterdam Billiards in New York City. That was a big thrill for me. Doing a match with those guys in Manhattan was a special thing. Our first match was in a small room in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Its a long way from Sioux Falls to Manhattan. It was one of my favorite events we have ever done."
"Pool in the USA is in a state of flux right now. Times are hard and money is short all over the industry. I feel confident that our company is agile and innovative enough to survive and grow even in these tough times. We are working on leveraging our strengths such as flexibility to cover many different types of events as well as produce our own. I have been working with Mark Griffin of CSI on something very exciting that we hope to announce soon. It will be a new way to do challenge matches. Some other people in the industry have kind of started catching on to the one on one matches and have started doing things that resemble our matches. Most are not true action matches but exhibitions. I feel some of them play off the niche we created. So it's time to change the game again. We will be doing that in the near future."
"TAR is made up of three partners. Chad Pollman of Sioux Falls, SD. and myself were the founding partners. We had two businessmen from Sioux Falls buy in early on. They were Chuck Moss and Jason Froeling. They were instrumental in the foundation and initial growth of TAR. Mark Griffin of CSI then bought Jason and Chuck out and TAR now consists of Chad, Mark and myself. I work full time at TAR so I do most of the stuff you see. Website, video, graphics and things of that nature. Chad helps setting up matches and getting events put together. Mark is always around to help with anything I need and has been a driving force behind everything we have done. With Mark being on the team we are able to access the resources of the BCAPL office and the great people who work there. It is a great resource to have. Together I think we make a good team."

 | The Power of the ProShot Glove |

Now available with FREE delivery to anywhere in Europe!
The ProShot Glove is designed for better stroke control. - Mika Immonen
A revolutionary new teaching aid promotes cue stroke control, minimizes lateral wrist movement; the primary reason for missing straight shots. The ProShot Glove is also legal to use in competition.
And there are many high-quality 1 tier phenolic lockers which are really useful.
While great players chalk up their wins to technique and strategy, amateurs are getting a hand in training and play to make more shots using the ProShot Glove endorsed by the #1 player in the world, Mika. The Iceman Immonen, recently named Player of the Decade by Billiards Digest. The fundamental issue of missing shots can often be tied to a common concern experienced across all types of sports the natural movement of the wrist when it needs to stay in position and be properly aligned, stated Keith Larsen, inventor and co-developer of the ProShot Glove.
When slipping on the ProShot Glove, most people will not be aware of all the effort and changes that went into the final product development. Nor will they know how a consultation with Peter Daly, an equestrian saddle maker (who is Larsen partner) and testing by amateur and professional players, ultimately drew the developers closer to the final product.
I have invested countless hours observing and studying videos and photos of thousands of players who are consistently successful; in a set position, mid-stroke and follow through, said Larsen. The position of the forearm and the backhand on the cue stick were matched to the stroke revealing a discernible pattern. How effective a player was at maintaining proper alignment with his wrist correlated with the end result of the shot Larsen further states.
