Engert savours victory as Germans rule the roost on home soil

Thomas Engert, the two time winner of the World Pool Masters, has won the German Euro Tour in front of an ecstatic home crowd, beating Italy's Fabio Petroni with a resounding 9-1 score at the Billard-Centre "Die Drei" in Sindelfingen, in Southern Germany.

As the results from the final stages of the German EuroTour rolled in, there was a feeling of predictability in the nationality of the winner. Player after hopeful player was being culled by the strong German contingent of players, and their supremos were performing exceptionally.

Perhaps Souquet could have taken this one down, surfing on the crest of the wave that carried him over the line at the recent World 8 Ball Championships in Arabia, but he fell in the quarter-finals to unfancied Fin Markus Juva.

Best of the Brits was Karl Boyes who had a notable win over Dutchman Nick van den Berg 9-7 in the quarter finals, until he fell to the eventual winner in the Semi-Finals. Engert was a worthy winner having to best reigning World 9 Ball Champion Daryl Peach in the Last 16.
