It's the same story of Moori tips when they first came out, no one could believe how much people we willing to pay for a Moori - at one point (when you could get $1.50 for £1) they were selling for $60 each in America... That's £40 each tip... And people couldn't get hold of them because even at that price everyone was selling out of stock, despite standard tips only costing 25p back then! Nowadays many people are quite accustomed to paying £10 to £20 for a top quality tip! Apparently a single pair of boots made from Moori tip leather would cost around £18,000! I'm guessing if you are paying a lot more for your chalk you'll be less inclined to grind it away in a week, and frankly, if you're using a cube a week, you're chalking too much anyway. Obviously if you're caking a tonne of chalk onto your tip it'll leave marks on the cue ball... But my understanding is that you are SUPPOSED to use this chalk very sparingly anyway. The vast majority of independent reviews I've seen have been very positive indeed, and that's pretty amazing considering the unusually high price. Independent reviews I've read have mentioned effortlessly achieving extra spin for cue ball control, less miscues, "grippier" contact between tip and cueball, and encouragingly - the chalk apparently lasts a long time on the tip. I recommend people try one cube, a single cube won't break the bank, use it properly for a decent length of time, and make your own mind up to see if it's suitable for you. The purpose of chalk is to stop the tip from, slipping and miss-cueing. Miss-cueing is caused by inacurate striking of the ball. So bassically, its the players (shooters) own fault when a miss-cue occurs, not the chalk. Therfore, most billiard chalks hold up to the sole task of providing a good contact surface between cue ball and tip.
The quality of the tip is more important than the chalk. Moori, Black Heart, Tiger and Kamui tips achieve this better than most others.
Top pros won't have to purchase the Kamui chalk as it will be given to them - But to pay £15 on chalk? I'd rather save my money for when out in the USA and put my $25 (£15) into a midnight flyer... better return for your money.
