Anyone know what the rules are for the Grand Masters this weekend? Usual questions:
1. What break cue can we use? 2. is the 1 ball at the top and do we have to hit it? 3. how short can our jump cues be? 4. do we win if we make the 8 off the break (I hope not!)
I guess easier just to ask, are the rules same as EPT, IPT, or some other older set of rules.

Jonni having played in a qualifier where a Grand Masters organiser was present I think I can answer those questions as follows:
1. Any break cue meeting WPA regulations (Tip restrictions of IPT do not apply of course) 2. As per WPA rules you don't have to hit the one. Seems common practice to put it at the top but not strictly necessary in WPA rules. 3. No jump shots let alone jump cues allowed! This is a variation to the rules so could attract other queries e.g. What if you accidentally jump a ball (mis cue)? Is it OK to jump by hitting hard into a rail? 4. No. It's a foul and the 8 get's respotted. Opponent plays from kitchen.

Riggers, in WPA rules if player a pots the 8ball from the break, he then has 2 options........ 1, he can have the 8ball respotted and carry on from where the rest of the balls have landed. 2, have the balls re-racked and break again. Player b has no say in the matter! Is this a changed rule for this event do you know? Thanks. p.s is there a break box also? -----------------

If you checkout the home of the Grand Masters which is Cuesportuk.com the rules page is fully on there, The rules are up for the Grand Masters on the Cuesport UK website. This was mentioned two weeks ago.

Regardingthe 8 ball thanks for clearing that up Daryl. I was repeating what was said at the Grand Masters qualifier. I specifically asked if potting the 8 ball counts as a good ball i.e. allows you to continue your visit after it's been respotted and was told what I posted above. Sorry for confusing things. Oh, and was told no break box either so had to quickly learn the cut break

Also.... Posting the rules is good but it would be really helpful if there was a summary at the top e.g. It's WPA 8 ball rules with the following variations.... Otherwise people have to read every line darn line

what about this? 9. 8-BALL POCKETED ON THE BREAK. If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, the breaker may ask for a re-rack or have the 8-ball spotted and continue shooting. If the breaker scratches while pocketing the 8-ball on the break, the incoming player has the option of a re-rack or having the 8-ball spotted and begin shooting with ball in hand behind the headstring. when breaker scratches and pockets 8 ball... if incoming player chooses rerack, who breaks? The incoming player has control of the table so breaks or plays from where they are from the kitchen.

They are exactley as WPA Rules, except we use the Break Box, and there are no jump shots, as stated on the original flyer for the Grand Masters. Jonni you never foul anyway.

Ok that just about clears it up. But what about if you are hooked.....can you play into the rail to hop over a ball.....because you are not actually jumping the cue ball, its coming off the bed because of the rail! -----------------

A jump shot to me means that you make the white ball leave the bed of the table in order to jump over another ball. It doesn't matter if it come off a rail or the back of Millsy's, it is still a jump shot

!!! QUOTE !!! Otherwise people have to read every line darn line What, you don't have time to read the rules? Well if you don't, you will probably pay the penalty. Extract from WPA Rules: 1.1 PLAYER RESPONSIBILITY It is the player's responsibility to be aware of all rules, regulations and schedules applying to competition. While tournament officials will make every reasonable effort to have such information readily available to all players as appropriate, the ultimate responsibility rests with the player.
