Definition: The term "Calcutta" describes a type of auction-pool wagering that can be applied to US Cuesports and many other sporting events. In US Pool, a Calcutta is most common at a tournament featuring individual player competitions, but a Calcutta can be held in conjunction with any type of Pool tournament. In a Calcutta, Pool bid, auction style, on the Pool Player who they think will win the tournament (you can bid on, too). All the money raised through the "auction" goes into the pot. At the end of the tournament, those who "won" the player that then won the tournament get a pre-determined payout from the auction pool. The precise rules of a Calcutta can vary from place to place; many tournament organizers employ software programs that apply odds and determine win-place-show amounts. Perhaps the simplest and most common Calcutta payout is 60 percent of the pool to the "owner" of the winning tournament team, 20 percent to the "owner" of the second-place tournament team, and the remaining 20% to tournament organisation, but you can devise your own payment system. Grand Master 8-Ball Calcutta Rules Dates for each player have been decided these dates determine the end time for the auction on that player, if say for example Mr Smith has the current highest bid with say £50 and just 1 minute remaining then someone can come in with a £50.50pence bid or may decide to up the bid to £60 to ensure they get the player they want, no bids will be accepted after the Date and finish time set. To bid you can email Calcutta@cuesport.com Post on Calcutta forum on pro 9, Please remember to name your player, bid amount, your name & contact details. Payout Details : Winner 70%, Runner Up 20%, Ogranisation 10% Example, if we took in £500 from all bids then based on the above the winner would receive £350 whilst the Runner Up won £100, If we took in £1000 then you just double the above payouts. This is great Guys! In the US the player on whom the "bidding" is on can "share the action" with the winning bidder! (if the player bids on him/her self and is out-bid by a punter/someone else, then the player can give the winning bidder half of the "winning bid" and then share the prize, should there be one!) Please let me know how it all go's because I may want in! Jon. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: Shooter on 2007-01-27 09:42 ]
