Well the article about Riley's sponsoring English pool is an interesting read, with the large number of top 8ball players now playing 9ball, it would be great if they could try and promote something similar at 9ball. Maybe if they see support for this idea via the site things might happen. Would be great if they could do this for 9-Ball, it'd be lovely maybe to have regional leagues and maybe even qualify into national leagues. I think people really should get behind this because im sure there are lots of people who would be intersted in playing for a team, as it brings a new element to the great sport of 9-ball

I too would love to see Rileys arrange some 9 ball regional style leagues perhaps with winners gaining qualification for GB9BT. It's something I'd like to work together with them on and I'm sure we will. Watch this space! [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-11-01 12:26 ]

Just had time to read the article and it sounds like a great deal for 8 ball players. With the local pubs often full on pool nights I always wondered why Rileys were not more proactive in attracting this business. In appointing a new dedicated snooker and pool manager (Gareth Hopkins) I hope this is just the start of more great things to come. With Rileys being so important in the UK cue sport market any initiatives that encourage more people into their clubs has got to be good for the game. I've been fortunate enough to meet Gareth and see how enthusiastic he is about this new role so I feel sure this excellant news for 8 ball will be followed up with some exciting news for American Pool fans too. Sounds very good. I once played for an English 8-ball pool team that was based in a Rileys. I loved it. Decent table (usually 2 tables) Good space to watch. Nice surroundings and decent grub. You couldn't say that about some of the dodgy pubs we played in!
I think 9-ball leagues could happen but its on a smaller scale. Also each rileys would need a league to be running. For example St Albans v Watford or Stevenage or Harrow. I think realisticly how many Rileys are close enough to play eachother every week - maybe its once a month or at the end of league. (think APN)

Gareth used to be the Manager at my local Rileys and he is a good bloke. He is very enthusiastic about both English pool and American.
I'm sure he will make something happen if it's possible for him to do so

Chris your making me blush! Lee, I'm definately interested in the league idea culminating in qualification to Gb9bt, we'll discuss that next week.
