even tho every1 knows there been some fiddling going off, u cannot prove it so the winners is foing to have a free trip to vagas so may as well just leave it at that and iff the event does happen next year try to stop the same thing from happening again

Don't think a witchhunt is going to get anywhere with this.
Rileys ran a comp, set the rules and the means by which the winner would be judged. Post hoc if that is seen to be open to manipulation, and without an objective way of judging the results, then it just becomes one word against another.
Lessons to be learnt if there is a next time but this won't change anything IMHO.

Craig Chiddy plays at my local at Yate, and believe me when I tell you that this Kid has potential for top 10 9ball status! (and plays naturally fast) As for the thousand attempts...... he did have about that many tries! I didn't see it myself, but everyone in the club was talking about it! At least 3 weeks before the event finished. And he carried on trying to beat his own score right up 'till the end! Jon. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: Shooter on 2009-11-10 16:21 ]

john burt 29.09
you just couldnt make this up
the only true way to have held this competition was to have a delegate to attend each club on a set day throughout the competition, with such a large prize at stake it makes sense.well you read the likes of darren appleton givin his views on it then you know it is a load of crackers,if the likes of melling or appleton probably couldnt get that time then am sure john burt couldnt and these guys have probably had 1000s n 1000s of attempts, decent attempt for rileys to put this comp on but the way its been run is a bit of a mess to be honest, witha prize at stake like vegas then of course you are goin to get cheats in it,shame to say but some of the guys in the top 10 will definatley have cheated,so easy to put a few together and post a time
john burt, sorry guys but i just laugh everytime i see this 29.09 hahahaha
suprised mick smith or alan jones didnt win it lmao

you know what, i was willing to believe it was legit (low 30s have been done quite a few times, so what's so impossible about 29 seconds - in principle anyway), but then I saw this from the Watford Observer in an article about Burt winning:
"His winning clearance saw him pot three balls from the break and miss only one shot before sinking the black ball to finish"
wait... only 3 balls off the break? and hold on... he MISSED a ball and still got 29 seconds? That means he took 13 shots after the break (12 pots, 1 miss). Assuming it took 3 seconds from the break shot to take his first shot (being very generous here), that works out at an AVERAGE 2 seconds per shot, probably less in fact depending on how the break went.
I've just watched a bunch of dishes on youtube, and the vast majority of shots take over 2 seconds just for the balls to move around the table, i.e. from the moment the cueball is struck, not factoring in walking around the table, practice strokes etc. I'm thinking he must have had nothing but straight-in stop-shots maybe... And surely he had to run over to the other side of the table at least a couple of times (which adds an extra second or 2 each time)? Unless he broke the balls into a perfect line-up?
I can see Chiddy's time being legit - he potted 6 balls off the break and didn't miss, so 9 shots in 30 seconds is just over 3 seconds per shot. But the implication is that Burt shot every ball more than a second quicker than Chiddy.
So, I am now a convert to the sceptics about this winning time. And the real clincher is this, from the same article in the Watford Observer:
John, from Riverside Road, said: “When I came up here they all said there was a speed ball competition. I didn't have a go until the last week. I set 1m 30s with my first attempt but got under 34 seconds in my next three attempts. Then I got down to 29.09s on the fifth try. "
Sub-34 seconds on your 2nd ever attempt? And your 3rd ever attempt straight after that? and your 4th attempt straight after that? and on your 5th attempt, straight after that, you broke the world record? Dude, if you're going to lie, at least make it somewhat believable...

dunno why they have this comp as all it does is stir up trouble players claiming disputable times and everyone bandying accusations about. just makes me think that players will go to any length to win prizes these comps IMOare always gonna cause trouble unless they're monitored properly
