Hi Guys,
I hope you're all well and good and enjoying your pool.
I'm doing some market research for a company that wants to set up quality pool bars in the UK. Does anyone know if any market research has been done on pool and pool players in the UK and the US?
Any help on where I would find this information would be most most appreciated.
Regards,
Phil.

There was a young lady in Leeds doing a thesis on Pool (I kid you not) and our very own PC took her under his capable wings. She had a questionnaire we all filled out. I forget the name but perhaps PC can help out with this one and put her in touch with Phil.......

If any company can have a much better club, that is catered for players, as well as the everyday Bangers and/or Boozers, then they get my vote Willie

its a nice idea in principle but is it not the case that rileys have pretty much monopolised the bangers and boozers market sector of the market, which is where the profitability lies?

I think you'll find in general pool players don't have much cash. The money is in the beer. Therefore we have rileys. poor tables, cheap drink. I for one, would be interested in a gentlemans' pool hall, quality intoxicants, nice tables, limited numbers, no scum bags, gentlemans' wagers ... This is excellent guys. Please keep it coming. All your thoughts are much appreciated.
Maybe I will start a thread asking what you guys would want in your ideal pool bar.

Maybe I will start a thread asking what you guys would want in your ideal pool bar. That would be the best way to start, especially if you're doing market research for any company, looking to start a potential buisness venture , after all, that's what you're here for isn't it? I think you're right Wizard. And I agree with Lancaster. I think what you're saying is the industry in the UK is poorly catering for its' market at the moment.
I'd like you guys to have input on this. If that's ok with you. What shall I call the thread? I was thinking of something like "The Ideal Pool Bar?" and then people can say what they would like from their ideal bar.

That sounds good enough to me, after all, the best way to get an answer, is to ask the question Start the thread and see what happenes and also you can ask BigDave to make it a sticky thread (If possible), as it is a topic that includes everyone Willie

Wasn't the Elbow rooms exactly what we are talking about? Actually they were more parties / young / work do's. Food, drink, DJ affairs.
Although they started to expand but then the one in Swis Cottage (North London) closed down. Is the elbow rooms still doing well?

It's all very well bashing Rileys but we should be very grateful to them. Without their clubs there would have been no UK tours and virtually no UK game at all. And they do have some very good venues and new clubs opening all the time. It's not Rileys fault that their clubs get filled with **** heads and morons that damage the tables, it's just a sad reflection on the way our society is right now. My local Rileys is a great club with a manager that wants to cater for the players as far as possible and I know there are other Rileys clubs like this too. To answer the original posters question, I'm not sure if any research has been done but I can tell you what it will reveal if you ask any of the serious players... they want top qulaity tables (Brunswicks preferably), they want free play or a very good price on the hourly rate, and they'll probably drink one glass of coke, tea or something similar all night. Oh and they'll expect the drink to be thrown in free too [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-08-10 08:44 ]

Riley's used to be a great venue, its almost like a poker club than a pool and snooker club now though. clubs have gone down hill over the last few years in my opinion.....

The Elbow room is Bristol is doinG all right but they only have 2 tables and they are as bad as the rileys 12 tables across the road. I think Riggers hit it on the head quality tables, and decent cloth which is replaced often is what i'd be looking for in a decent club.
