Billiard Congress of America Launches Official Rules Mobile ApplicationBroomfield, Colo., October 19, 2012 - The Billiard Congress of America announced today the launch of the official billiard rules mobile application on both iPhone and Android platforms for the World-Standardized Rules of Pocket Billiards (8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, 14.1 Continuous Pool, Black Ball, and more). The Official Billiard Rules App also will offer "Table Specifications," "Instructions for Referees," and an interactive "Ask the Referee" section. Full versions of the BCA's Official Billiard Rules App can be downloaded in the iTunes and Google Play stores for $2.99, with a free supplemental lite version offering 8-Ball and general rules information. The Official Billiard Rules App is designed for players and enthusiasts who want instant access to the World-Standardized Rules, Regulations and Table Specifications. Featuring easy to use navigation, players can quickly answer questions and solve disputes about every official rule and regulation. "It is only fitting that the Billiard Congress of America, who has a long history of publishing the official rules of billiards and pool, is now offering a mobile application platform that offers consumers the same information wherever and whenever a billiard player needs it," said Rob Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the Billiard Congress of America. "With this application, and its ease of use navigation, players will have instantaneous answers to rules questions and other valuable information. The App allows users the opportunity to email the Billiard Congress of America directly from the application with a rules question. This mobile application also gives players a new way to seek answers from certified BCA and World-Standardized referees. In an effort to standardize the sport and further assist the North American professional pool players, the Billiard Congress of America will donate 50% of proceeds from the purchase of the mobile application to a North American professional pool player travel fund. The fund's total will be reviewable at www.tinyurl.com/BCAProPlayerTravelFund. The mobile application is powered by the Professional Billiard Instructors Association (PBIA). The PBIA is the largest recognized international body of billiard instructors, and is dedicated to growing cue sports through quality billiard instruction to individuals at all levels of proficiency to ensure that pool-playing students have a positive playing experience. For more information about the PBIA visit www.PlayBetterBilliards.com. Allen Blasts Three Tons In Antwerp Final Mark Allen made three century breaks in a terrific performance to beat Mark Selby 4-1 in the final of the Acuerate Antwerp Open in Belgium. Allen's victory in the European Tour event, part of the Players Tour Championship series, gave the 26-year-old from Antrim his first title of the season and the third of his pro career. A packed house at the Lotto Arena saw him lift the trophy and earn 12,000 Euros and 2,000 ranking points. World No 9 Allen started the final with a barrage of high scoring as breaks of 117, 102 and 106 put him 3-0 ahead. World No 1 Selby pulled one back before Allen made a 53 in frame five on his way to victory. "It's been a long time coming because I've been struggling so far this season," said Allen, whose previous professional titles were the invitational Jiangsu Classic in 2009 and the Haikou World Open ranking event last March. "I spent some time with my coach Terry Griffiths and he helped me get my mind right. I practised hard leading up to this tournament and I had a good attitude throughout. I'm pleased to be playing well again and looking forward to some big tournaments coming up." Allen's triumph means that the 12 events on the World Snooker Tour so far this season have been won by 12 different players, and he added: "Snooker's more open now than it's ever been so there's no reason why I can't win more titles in the rest of the season." The Players Tour Championship is a series of ten events, four in the UK and six on the Betfair European Tour, with the top 24 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Finals in March. They will be joined by seven players from the Asian PTC Order of Merit. The next event is Asian PTC3 from November 5-9 in Zhengzhou, China. WPA WITHDRAWS SANCTIONING FROM NOVEMBER'S WORLD TEN BALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND WORLD POOL SUMMIT IN MANILAOctober 24, 2012 The WPA Board of Directors has taken the decision to withdraw the sanctioning of the World Ten Ball Championship and World Summit events that were scheduled for next month, November, in Manila. Despite repeated attempts, we were unable to obtain any necessary information from the organisers, Raya Sports, about the events. This has left the WPA Board with no alternative but to withdraw the sanctioning. Therefore, if these events do proceed, they will not yield ranking points for players. If anyone is interested in trying to gain information about either event, please contact the Organisers, Raya Sports at www.rayasports.wordpress.com.

O'Sullivan Withdraws From International ChampionshipRonnie O'Sullivan has pulled out of the International Championship, which starts on Sunday in China, for medical reasons. O'Sullivan was due to face either Michael White or Lu Haotian on Monday evening at the world ranking event in Chengdu. The winner of that match will now receive a bye to the last 16. WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: "We have been made aware that Ronnie has been unwell. The usual process for players pulling out of tournaments will now be applied. "This is a huge disappointment for all of the fans in China who were hoping to see him play. However there is still an outstanding line-up of the world's best players at the International Championship and it will be a top class event."

SUNDAY NIGHT AT RILEYS - AMERICAN STYLEDitch all those boring jobs - DIY, homework, ironing blah, blah, blah and just have yourself a cheeky little lie in. Then get your mates rounded up and head down to Rileys this Sunday. From 5pm you can play American Pool for FREE and take in the big guys on the big screen, as the New England Patriots take on the St Louis Rams live from Wembley Stadium, followed by the Dallas Cowboys v the New York Giants. But that's just the appetiser for the main event, as the WWE wrestling extravaganza the devils playground in a Cell kicks off at midnight. It's going to be brutal. As if that's not enough, get yourself some top offers at the bar to ease your way into the new week - we've got 4 Buds for £10 and 6 shots for £4 and if you're a bit peckish, then burgers are 2 for £5 - bargain. Make Sunday a day of rest, relaxation and really big guys beating the devils playground out of each other - go on, you deserve it. That's the life. Regards, The Rileys Team

The Seniors 9-Ball Open was won by Joey Aguzin. This marked also the first time the ladies and men's open were both swept by the same two winners in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball disciplines when Jimmy "SuperFly" Majors also swept the Men's Open. She then entered the 9-Ball ladies event and again defeated Kline to go undefeated this time in the finals. She then entered the Mixed Doubles with her partner Hunter Lombardo. They went undefeated but were defeated twice in the finals by Brittany Bordeaux and Evan Lundy of Michigan. 50+ and up Joey Aguzin went undefeated to win the 9-Ball Seniors division. Smarties help Catalano feel on top of the worldA HANDFUL of Smarties helped snooker star Maria Catalano enjoy the sweet taste of success at the women’s UK Championship. And Catalano is now provisionally ranked number one on the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association circuit following her 3-0 victory over Tina Owen-Sevilton in the final at Jesters Snooker Hall, Swindon. The 30-year-old from Dudley, West Midlands, revealed she nearly quit the tournament after feeling “a bit giddy and a bit light-headed” in her previous two matches. “During the semis, I was contemplating going home because I felt like I was in someone else’s body,” she admitted. Catalano, the pre-tournament favourite to claim her first UK title, struggled back from 2-1 down to defeat Derby teenager Hannah Jones 3-2 on the final pink in the quarter-finals. “Hannah played quite well and I managed to scrape through,” she said. And she was 1-0 down to 12-year-old Jasmine Bolsover, from Woking, before prevailing 3-1 in the last-four. Complaining of feeling unwell, Catalano was approached by Owen-Sevilton. “Tina gave me about 20 Smarties and I ate them all,” she explained. “I don’t know whether it was some kind of sugar rush but it worked. I felt a lot better and came to life in the final. “I played really well. I think I missed three balls.” Breaks of 30, 32, 52 and 66 secured Catalano a ninth WLBSA ranking title. Jones, 16, beat Bolsover to clinch the Junior title and world number 12 Jenny Poulter, from Maidstone, Kent, won the Plate competition. RESULTS (BREAKS)QUARTER-FINALS: Maria Catalano (45, 38 ) beat Hannah Jones 3-2, Jasmine Bolsover beat Jenny Poulter 3-2, Vicky Carter w/o Tatjana Vasiljeva, Tina Owen-Sevilton beat Vicky Gibbs 3-0. In the next few months we also have :- · The Voices Christmas Choir night – The Voices were the 2008 grand finalists of the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition. · The Rat Pack Frank’s Back – David’s portrayal of Frank Sinatra is unlike any other, as he not only sings and phrases uncannily like The Chairman of The Board, but also talks in an incredibly authentic Sinatra manner, leaving audiences spellbound · Psychic Donna - As featured on Living TV with Kerry Katona & Jodie Marsh The Events pages on our website will be changing all the time so to keep abreast of new attractions please visit www.thecapitalvenue.com/category/events I hope to see you at one or more of our events and possibly hosting a private party or company function for you. Snooker's Big Events On Big Screens! Fans around the UK will be able to come together in city centres to enjoy World Snooker tournaments this season thanks to the BBC's Big Screens. The Big Screen coverage will start with the williamhill.com UK Championship in York December, with green baize action shown on screens in Leeds, Manchester, Bradford, Derby, Liverpool and Middlesbrough. There will also be coverage of the Masters in January. A spokesman for World Snooker said: "The Big Screens are a fantastic innovation from the BBC and they will help us to raise awareness of our leading events throughout the UK. "We have used a Big Screen in Sheffield during the World Championship, in Tudor Square outside the Crucible, for several years and it's great to see fans coming together to watch the action and create their own special atmosphere. We'd love to see this replicated across the UK. "It's also an excellent way to bring snooker to people who might not have watched the sport before, who might come across a Big Screen in one of the cities taking part. Watching a few frames is an ideal way to relax while taking a break from Christmas shopping!" Geraldine McCullagh, Editor of the Screens Operational Centre, added: "After a fantastic summer of sport on our screens, it’s great to be delivering more world class sport to city centre audiences this December." Here's the schedule of Big Screen coverage for the williamhill.com UK Championship: Saturday December 1 1300 – 1400 1630 – 1730 Sunday December 2 1400 – 1730 Monday December 3 1300 – 1800 Tuesday December 4 1300 – 1800 Wednesday December 5 1300 – 1800 Thursday December 6 1300 – 1800 1900 - 2000 Friday December 7 1300 – 1800 1900 - 2000 Saturday December 8 1300 – 1630 1630 - 1730 1900 – 2200 Sunday December 9 1415 - 1800 2000 - 2300
