Hi cue fans

Check out item number 170066186248 on ebay.co.uk.

This is an original, 1st Catalogue Palmer from 1965. It is in absolutely pristine condition, probably the best surviving example on the planet judging by the pictures.

This cue, made by Eugene Balner (RIP) has a 1950s Brunswick Titlist forearm (a full spliced cue with the wood in the points being the same piece of wood under the wrap) with lots of mother of pearl inlays.

It is common to have the players name under the clear acrylic window (in this case 'Alan') and this does not detract from the value. The lurid blue wrap is original. The shaft looks also to be original. The rubber bumper isn't as it has been added later. 1st Catalogue Palmers did not have bumpers (I would take it off asap!!!).

So why am I telling you all this?

I am playing pool tonight (money match) and will not be by a computer in 5 hours. I would rather it went to one of my boys than some unknown.

This is a highly collectable cue and is worth a bucket more than £215 its currently going for.

1965!! Eugene Balner was a true pioneer of cue making (by that I mean American two piece cues) in the 1960s.

Si, i've just had a quick look on the Palmer Collector website and it looks like a 2nd catalogue Model G, valued at around $1000 in average condition. Looks like someone got a bargin there!

Hi Craig

Yeah I would have put this down for a bit more considering the condition. Glad one of the Pro9 clan won it....well done Mole, my boy!

I had spotted the Palmer on Ebay as well as the Diamond and after seeing his post I thought - what the the devils playground and chucked in a bid.

The cue came today and it is in perfect unused condition and possibley the best example of a cue that age I will ever see.

The cue is Model G of the second Palmer Catalogue. It also came in the case it which it was originally purchased with a palmer tip tapper in the pocket. The case has also never had any chalk in it no blueing at all.

I am taking some pictures tonight and I will do a webpage on my site so you all can have a look.

I will post the link tomorrow.

Big up for the D-man!

I must be slipping :-o !! Its quite clearly a 2nd catalogue model G.

So the good news is its worth EVEN MORE than I thought, ha, ha!

What an amazing find. It looks like it has just been put away from new and never used judging by the condition, period case and period tip tapper.

Time capsule or what? It wasn't an export item and clearly someone has had it made in the US...would love to know the history and what its doing over here in Blighty....in unused condition.

Great find my friend and well done.

Si

Well, I only had the Palmer 3 full days it's now on it's way back to the USA after decades hidden in a UK loft.

A guy who collects Palmer cues in the states made me an offer and I am sure he got a good one there!

Now I'm just keeping my eye out for a £50 Szamboti on ebay.
