Sad to hear of the passing of Sid Waddell this weekend... He was unmistakeable as one of the "colour" commentators of Matchroom Pool tournaments in the early days. I always remember him describing Fabio as a "Roman fountain" after he got emotional when representing Italy. What was your favourite quote from Sid? ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor

A truly sad day. Darts was his signature sport, but he was a great pool commentator. My favourite SW quote was personal. I was working wiith him dubbing commentary on the Meucci Sam semi final between Framcisco Bustamante and Oliver Ortmann from Brighton Bowlplex. After we finished he said to me:"I've met a lot of people in my time behind the mic. But you are the one person that I admire the most. You have a medical condition but you ignore it and carry on with life." When you consider how many people he had met then I consider that a massive compliment.

Sid was darts. Very intelligent man and always made darts a joy to watch. Most of todays darts commentators have little personality. Sad news indeed for us darts fans.

SID WADDELL, THE VOICE OF DARTS, DIES AGED 72
Popular darts commentator Sid Waddell has died after a battle with bowel cancer at the age of 72.A statement from his manager Richard Allix read: "With great sadness, we announce that following a long illness, broadcaster and author Sid Waddell died peacefully with all his family around him late last night, Saturday August 11th, 2012." Waddell announced that he was fighting bowel cancer in September last year, and took an indefinite break from his commentary duties. The 72-year-old Newcastle-born broadcaster had built a cult following for his exuberant commentaries on darts, working on the Sky Sports' coverage of PDC events since 1994. Some of Waddell's unusual turns of phrases and references have become famous. He once said of multiple world-champion Eric Bristow that, "When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer... Bristow's only 27." And of Phil Taylor, recognised by many as darts' greatest player, Waddell once said, "William Tell could take an apple off your head, Taylor could take out a processed pea." "That lad could hit a 180 standing one legged in a hammock" "Bristow reasons... Bristow quickens... Ahhhh Bristow" "As they say at the DHSS, we're getting the full benefit here" One entertaining man. "The greatest comeback since Lazarus" Great commentator. A massive pair of shoes to fill in the commentary box.

"He's buttered his soldiers, now all he has to do is dip em in his egg!"
Quote followed a Bustamante break in one of the world championships in Cardiff.
RIP Sid Waddell you will be missed.

If Phil Taylor had been at hastings the Normans would have given up and gone home. RIP Sid
