Just saw this headline on BBC TV news this morning! £2.2 million grant for rounders! There's a rather interesting timeline described in the page linked below showing how this came about. Is there anything in this business/sport model that we can learn from, adapt or benefit from? We are rightly happy with the superb pro tour we have, but shouldn't we now be pushing forward something like this? The Dutch have money from the Dutch Olympic Committee for their players - shouldn't we be targeting a future where we can approach "Sport England" to help grow OUR great game. "In December 2008, Rounders secured £2.2 million from Sport England for its Whole Sport Plan 2009 – 2013"Source: The Rounders England Journey http://www.roundersengland.co.uk/etc/etc...... ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-11-12 09:54 ]

THIS IS NOTHING NEW.
LIKE IT OR NOT THE CLOSEST WE (BRITAIN) HAVE COME TO THIS WAS WITH THE OLD BPPPA.
LIKE IT OR NOT THE OLD BPPPA WOULD TAKE CARE OF ITS ‘GRASS ROOTS’ WITH SINCERITY!
ALSO; THESE TYPES OF GRANTS CANNOT BE USED TO SWELL THE MONEY PURSE PAYOUT OF ANY GIVEN TOURNAMENT, WHICH MEANS THAT TOP PRO PLAYERS OF TODAY WON’T NECCESSARILY BENEFIT FROM SUCH A GRANT, WHILST THEY ARE STILL PLAYING.
CATERING FOR THE FUTURE IS THE ONLY WAY AMERICAN POOL WORLDWIDE WILL MOVE FORWARD WITH A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
PLUS THE TYPE OF PROPOSALS REQUIRED TO BE WRITTEN CAN TAKE YEARS OF PREPARATION, DEDICATION WITH NO BS. THE PANELS OF THESE TYPES OF INSTITUTIONS SMELL BS FROM A MILE AWAY...

Nobody's talking about BS here... I'm sure Rounders didn't have any national body before someone decided to do something for the good of the game out of goodwill, and not out of personal interest. Amongst the Pro9'ers and GB9'ers that visit this site we have all sorts of professionals, from project managers to legal representatives, bankers, accountants - everything you could dream of needing to sort out something like this properly. Unless we all sigh and think it's too difficult! [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-11-13 11:21 ]

The GB9 Team does not discuss its business in the forums but I can assure you they are well aware of Sport England and a huge amount of effort was put in to a Sport England bid.

Now... this is riggers talking not GB9... I can say I agree with the guy who shouts in capitals - that intelligent organisations can smell BS a mile away. Thankfully our pool players can too, which is why pool in the UK is in a better place now and has a better future than ever before.

I have been reading this, and you have to be the governing body first. Then can you apply for a grant...

Small Grants can fund formally constituted not-for-profit organisations and statutory bodies. This might include sports clubs, voluntary organisations, local authorities, schools or governing bodies of sport. We will not fund an individual, sole trader or partnership, organisations established to make profit or organisations not established in the UK.
Your constitution or governing document should contain a clear not-for-profit statement and charitable dissolution clause and your membership should be open to all sections of the community. Your governing committee should include at least three non-related and non-cohabiting members.
If your organisation is a branch of a larger organisation, you should confirm that you are sufficiently independent of them. If you do not have your own committee, bank account and constitution you will need the support of your parent organisation, which must accept overall responsibility for the award."Source: http://www.sportengland.org/funding/small_grants/want_to_apply.aspx[ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-11-14 15:50 ]

The basic structure is in place minus a significant youth strategy, which is why I referred to the BPPPA as an example.
As the big man pointed out, there are enough resources out there that could be pulled together. How this is to happen only the heavens know..?
My response to this was only to point out that there are a lot of activities that will gain massive support because they have a highly structured vehicle behind it. As for ROUNDERS, I’m sure if one wanted to research deeper, they have probably received many grants in the past, starting with a mere £500 as a starting point many years ago.

Source: http://www.sportengland.org/funding/small_grants/want_to_apply.aspx Thanks big man, i never read all of it. Just think for the game to be taken serious, some kind of application should be made, and start like rounders did. Maybe even email them and ask them for advice. Sure they be willing to do this.
