9 ball saturday, 8 ball Sunday. Sounds like a nice excuse for a weekend away drinking guiness!

Can some of our irish friends tell us how the tournament works? Specifically:
- Do you have to enter in advance?
- What's the entry fee and typical prize money?
- What's the format?

Paddy McGlaughlin should be able to answer that one Riggers.

I've played a few Irish events, last one being Newry and if I remember right it was £20/30euro per tournament.
I think this has gone up since (£25/37euro)

Prize money was around the £300 mark for the winner.

Format is usually round robin, depending on amount of entries and/or tables at the venue.

Best to contact Ronnie Boyle direct on his mobile
He is based in Northern Ireland, so this is a UK number 07776365059
Or email him at irelandsamericancuesports@yahoo.co.uk

I dont think I'll get a trip accross the water this year (spent too much in Norway!), but I would thoroughly recommend anyone to go over, they are a great bunch of lads and you should have a great weekend overall!

Hope this helps in the interim, but hopefully Paddy can elaborate...

:-D

Just had an email from Ronnie Boyle & he asked me to post this information.....

""Anyone wants to know details on the Cork tournament go into the irish tours official website www.irelands9balltour.com and click on fees & rules on left-hand-side and click on the Cork venues own website www.mardyke.com for other information.....""

Hmmm... According to the website if you want to join the tour you have to pay £20 and apply before 20 January (so can't do that) and the rules for non members seem very strange...

!!! QUOTE !!!

If any player doesn’t want to become a member he / she will have to pay a non-players membership of £35 stg or 50 euros for each event they enter but they will not be allowed to progress to the next round of any event.

So if you don't want (or miss the deadline) to become a member you have to pay £35 instead of £20 membership fee at the event and will be dumped out at round 1! Can't wait!

That's what it says but surely this cannot be true!

And if it is true they can hardly call it an 'Open' event as in 'Cork Open 9 Ball Masters'!

Riggers, I think the 20th Jan deadline was for the option 1 (£120) for added prize money.
I think this is designed for the regular players for something extra to play for.
I dont think this would affect you becoming an option 2 member for £20 (similar to the BPPPA temporary players license), but you would only be eligible for the standard prize fund and not the added.

It would probably be best if you contact Ronnie direct & he can explain it for you.

Yes I'll contact him but his phone is switched off.

To be fair it could not be much clearer on their website. Under option 2 it definately says that non-members have to pay £35 membership per event and even then they cannot progress to the next round... what idiot would enter in those circumstances!

I know it doesnt make sense, but I think it is just used as a deterrant, as Ronnie was getting messed about with players not paying their membership fees up front.

If you were to pay the £20 membership along with your entry fee, there would be ne problem.

Yes, I agree. If we are allowed to become members for £20, even at this late stage in the year, then it's happy days.

I definately want to go, just waiting for others to decide. Will decide in next few days.

Can't get an answer from Ronnie. Can you clear things up for us i.e. can we pay £20 membership and then play in tournament for same entry fees and prize money as other existing members?
