It is a bargain, the guy was trying to get $80,000 for this previously. Think of it as $30k off

It's not even nice to look at! Ok it's a Balabushka but it's just plain and ugly. I mean who would put green and black points next to a light beige linen wrap? And the white plastic butt cap looks like it came straight off the bottom off a rileys cue. Looks poor next to my beautiful Wayne! [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-03-13 13:25 ]

Here is my take on it.....
Made for one of the games greatest ever players by the greatest cue maker. Should end it there really but I will go on.......
One of the fanciest Balabushka cues to have ever come on the market. Absolutely first rate collectors cue as it looks to be all original with original shafts. It is the pinnicle of taste and form as all Balabushka cues are....very restrained in design even with this amount of inlay work. George never over did things with cues. Original Courtland #1 Irish Linen wrap. As for the ugly butt cap.....its white Delrin. George and another maker at that time (1950s - 1960s), Frank Paradise made this material popular as it is very durable and perfect for butt caps. It became a standard and almost every cue maker/cue manufacturer since then has used it at some point for the butt cap. All of my Szamboti cues (bar one) have this material on the butt cap. Made in 1969 suggests the forearm 'blank' was constructed by the late, great Burton Spain. What is unusual is the green/black veneer colours. I have never seen this before. I can only surmise that Pete Margo asked George for something a little different. Perhaps Pete specified the veneer colours. George must have then placed an order with Burt for this forearm as a special piece. Very, very unusual.
What is really off putting is the fact that this cue is on ebay of all places. We have a network of collectors that would pay top dollar for this cue. It has been offered 3 times now with no concrete buyer....at 3 different amounts. This only serves to hurt the value if there are no firm takers. Of course, this cue is worth what anyone is prepared to pay for it....who knows what that is. My feeling is its worth between $35,000 and $50,000. The cue without the Pete Margo connection is worth $30,000 on its own....at the moment.
A Mizerak Bushka was on sale 10 years ago and $50,000 was refused. It was about the same level of inlay work as this one. What is that Mizerak Bushka worth now??
Again, multiple ebay listings hurts the value of the cue and it looks like you are desperate to sell. Pete clearly wants rid of his cues now but I would still go through the proper channels for this kind of thing.
So to summerise, awesome cue made for an awesome player, a top collectable that will only increase in value. Top provenance which is very important at this level of cue. I wouldn't let it go for $30,000 if it was mine.
