Congratulations to David on winning the Grand Masters.

He played outstanding pool all weekend, causing top players like Jonni Fulcher and Daryl Peach to wonder how on earth they could stop him, Jonni did mention that winning the lag might help! :D

Well done David, and congratulations to Imran on some great performances.

Congrats to Mark Mills on a fantastic tournament, to Big Dave and Andy Watts on their never ending work for Pro9, and to the staff at Mickey Flynns.

Bring on Harrow!

Sounds like he ran the set again!

Superb win for David, he was without doubt a country mile infront of anyone else all weekend!

one word........AWESOME!

especially coz i had him in the calcutta!! ;-)

Well done Imran too it has to be said.....he got to the final ina totally different way to David, Where as David was run huge PACKS of racks and just wiping out top players with ease, Imran showed his battling skills off to a tee this weekend!..sometimes not the prettiest pool but intense and effective.

Well done to both players!
Well done to Mark Mills and Karl Boyes for organising a superb event.
Well done for Mark Mills for running the show this weekend.
Well done to Big Dave for his coverage and reports!
Well done to Andy Watts for a great job refereeing
And finally, well done to ALL the players that took part and made this event posible!....roll on the next one.

is mr alcaide a threat in the world 9-ball championship this year or is 8-ball his main strength?

Cool,

Well done to yourself and mark on a good event, the only downside was the directions to the chinese, but at least you and mick managed to clear a few tables when we got there LOL

Mick's face was a picture when you got another main after he had gone to pudding

From Spain we are all delighted at David's victory. I have always said that he is a better 8 ball player than a 9 ball player and in one of the toughest competitions ever, he has proved it but his 9 ball performance, finishing in the top 16 of the WPC in Manila shows what a good all rounder he is.
I just wish that he would practise a bit so he could become even better.
Without a word of a lie, David's only practise for this event was a couple of hours with Rafael Guzman last Thursday evening in Fuengirola, apart from that he hasn't been near a table since the last Eurotour.
This was obviously the tournament of the year and congratulations to all who took part and to all the organisers.
Well done to Boysi for the initial idea and to Mark for doing the work as I am sure that it wouldn't have worked without his input.
Well done Pro9 (BDK) for the coverage which was much appreciated over here in Spain.

Can only agree with all the comments on here about the tournament. It really was an awesome event and as good a display of pool as you could ever wish to see. There was drama all throughout the tournament and some incredible performances. Obviously I was really rooting for the UK boys, particularly the 3 amigos, but I have to say I'm really pleased David won the event because this tournament was set up to to be so tough that the best player would come through and it certainly did that. David's play was just on a different planet. After that I think Tony also deserves congratulations for an awesome display in all his matches until meeting the eventual winner.

Boyzi said the tournament could've been better. Well it couldn't have been *much* better but it's good to see Boyzi thinking like that and I agree (as a spectator and having spoken to many of the european players) there were a few minor changes that would make it even better. There was some debate about whether the format (5 sets) was just too *tough* and differing opinions about it. On reflection I think this is what made the tournament and despite being one of the doubters half way through Sunday have to concede that Boyzi got this one right. On dress code I would either enforce it perperly (possibly allowing very slight leniancy in first matches only) it or not have it at all because it's not fair that some make the effort and others play in jeans and T-Shirts.

Awesome event though and I'm sure next time it will be even better so much so I'm determined to be playing in the main event myself next time!

Felicitaciones David! Bien Jugado Amigo!

Same sentiments from myself: Congrats to everyone involved for a fantastic tournament, even if I went out in the first round to David, I still had a great weekend and enjoyed watching some of the best 8 ball I've ever seen. Well done Mark for this monumental Tournament success. I hope there will be many more to come! Congrats to Imran for making the final and to everyone else that took part without whom the tournament couldn't have happened.

Hands up all those that managed to take a set off David! I think Raj and Imran managed 2 sets each, which is darn impressive! Dazzla... how many did you get? ;-)

See you all at the next big one. As for me... I think i'll be hitting the practise table to work on my break! he he he...

Quite clearly David broke the best the whole weekend by miles!

De Nuevo, Enhorabuena David! Era tu torneo!

sitting here in mickeys right now and the place feels strange, over the last 3 days some of the best players in the world have graced this pool club and now its over, even in my dreams i never thought i would see the likes of souquet, feijen, immonen, chamat in this pool club and i cant explain how priveliged i feel to have see them grace this wonderful venue.

i would like to congratulate evryone involved in the grand masters the directors, the players and even the spectators coz without them there is'nt the buzz of a tournament and it also confirmed that for one-off pool events mickey flynns is top of the pile.

bit dissapointed how my match went for me but the good thing with the format is that the best players will come out on top and as a player defeat is a bit easier to take,

i hope all that came enjoyed themselves and any input as to how mickeys could do anything better for tournaments will be very much appreciated, i cant tell you how on edge i've been and i hope all the top players will come back again

see you all soon

Hi All, Just got back and what a great read to come home to, thanks to all for your great post on the tournament, For once in my life I feel proud of something I have done, especially on this scale, before I set off to Cambridge I was simply hoping it just went well, well I can say it went way beyond that it was 200% better than I could have dreamed.
I have a lot of people to thank for their help and if I forget to mention anyone then please let me know.

A Big thanks to.....
All at Mickey Flynns who were all great and an extra special one to Richard Jones who helped me before the event and for making the Final Arena look superb, all Richards own work.

Also to the Empire Pool Tour Daryl & Mark for the loan of the Match Balls and scoreboards, that will be back with them for the London Open at Harrow in a couple of weeks, cheers Guys.

A big thanks also to all the players who showed their faith in me and Karl by putting up a large entry fee without them this major event would not be possible.

A massive thanks to Big Dave Knight and Andy Watts at Pro 9 for the superb coverage and super photos and Andy for reffing the final and an extra thanks to Big Dave for covering this event live here on Pro9 without this the event could not have been as big outside of the club itself.

Thanks to Anglia ITV for doing their sports show live from Mickeys on Friday night and the interviews they did with Mickey Lambert which where live, hope you ok now Mickey I know you where twitching but you braver than me as I chickened out.

Thanks to all who supported the cue raffle which was to raise the funds to pay for the Winner & Runner UP trophies and the affiliation to the EPBF and to Nick Van Berg for winning it.

An extra big thanks also to Shirley Ang who refereed the match between Fabio Petroni and Carl Morris I think from set 2 after the match was getting very heated, Shirley handled them superb.

If I missed anyone I apologise.
I going to relax for a few hours now until I go to Manchester United v Europe X1 where my kids will unknowingly meet Ronaldiniho.

Until the next biggie.
Cheers one and All.

well done david great performance and broke very consistant great potter and good pressure player and nice guy

well done to all involved was good tourny very nice club and was great to see my old mate mikey lambert who was a class act at english pool shame we drawn eachother ...

well done to boyes and mark dave etc

few things i need to get off my chest

1.i was under impression we would be playing on 4 1/2 inch pockets and 8ball on speed cloth big pockets its just way to easy it all boils down to the break and we all seen over weekend... 8ball knowledge just went out of window i think i played 1 safety shot all weekend so i must say i was dissapointed the pockets were so big in such a tough field when i was lead to believe it would be 4 1/2 inch pockets!

£500 pound is a lot of money to sit in your chair rack after rack after rack after rack it becomes very frustrating when your opponents break balls fly into middle bags and as road maps every rack...

not saying i would have done any better if 4 1/2 inch pockets but at least we all would see the table more often!!

hopefully my comments will be taken on board for next time and you understand my concern when i was told we would be playing on tighter pockets when infact the pockets were stupidly massive!

once again well done to all players esp david and imran

!

yeah good post dyno!

i too felel it was a very good event a great venue with might i had greta staff and clientel.

Good see mickey again had not seen him since ou rbattles on the uk tour when i was a young pup.lol lol.
Greta events are made by a great
1=organisation
2=quality of players(not quantity)
3=tables and venue feeling at ease etc
4=CASH (its all about the poke guys)

All of the above first class except for one issue which like dyno stated needs to be said......

if im told that im paying £500 + hotel £600total and im playing on 4 1/2 inch pockets then i feel thats what i should be playing on- imho the game of 8ball on this equipment is becoming a farce! might as well turn up play texas holdem that is my best of comparing 8ball on the modern day equipment to another game! its becoming a game of luck and chance!
eg-golf the clubs get better the golf courses get harder not easier, make the game harder not easier(tighten the pockets)! IF I WAS JOHNI and paid 500 told i was on tight pockets then got blown away id not be overjoyed!

Once again its not critism just my opinion on how we can improve the event cos if you invite ralf, mike, oliver etc the top draw players id like a bet they wont play again unless pockets are tighter!

just like add thanx again to mickey flynns gr8 venue to mark for his hard work hope my views are constructive n takem on board

thanx
mick
