Some early details are now on the website: http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com/Group stage format is being changed to 32 groups of 4 playing race-to-eight racks, then the top 2 from each group qualify for the last 64 straight knock-out... Prize money has gone up a bit as well

It's a long way for 3 matches now compared to the 7 beforehand, although it is played over more frames. Just an observation. Good to see an increase in the prize funds. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: devil on 2006-05-01 13:21 ]

The WPC and the IPT clash on dates, will this devalue the World Pool Championships?

Then again the clash is only the last day of the IPT, so shouldn't be too bad, unless everyone playing in the IPT event has to stay until the tournament is finished.

I agree Chris but you can't wait until the last day to enter the WPC and not knowing how you are going to do in the IPT means that you can't make an airline booking to Manila to travel around the 2nd Nov. Casting my eye over the IPT players list, I see at least 30 players who would normally expect to be playing in the WPC. Unless the organisers sort things out soon, this year's world championships will have no value. Interesting.................................... Of course it is possible that all of the IPT players who are qualified for the WPC will be seeded into groups 17 - 32 which start on Monday 6th. That would work but is it fair? I suppose that those who would be in groups 1 - 16 would say yes!!!!!!1

There is also, however, the factor that the group stage will be held over 2 lots of 2 days with the first 16 groups being played on days 1 and 2 of the tournament and the second lot on days 3 and 4. Silly question, would it be possible to have the IPT players play in the later groups, meaning that they could do both? Just a though. thecardman www.scottish9ball.com The Cardman's Blog[ This message was edited by: thecardman on 2006-05-02 13:32 ]

I'm pretty sure that the IPT made a statement that the date of the UK tournament would be changed when a venue was finalised so it wouldn't clash with the World 9-Ball Championships.

anyone else notice the payouts for the WPC, 40K for quarter finals, 40K semis and 40K runner up - why spilt the funds like this, it seems bit of a kick in the teeth for players who make the semi's or further
