Hi people,
I have an idea for a different tournament format and I thought I would get your opinions. Entry fee £100. 8 regional mini tournaments comprising 16 players. One day Double elim all the way through and two qualify. The person who finishes 3rd receives £200
Finals are one day straight knockout Prizes would be 1st = £2000 2nd = £1600 3/4 = £1000 5/8 = £600 9/16= £400
What do you think?

128 players paying £100!
Would you allow someone to play in more than one of the miniqualifiers?
I think it's important to know who would run it, for credibility's sake - would you be running it?

Hi there,
Nothing formalised, and I would have to fine tune the rules and regulations but the idea was to combat the following.
1. If a player plays in another event they have to pay for travel and accommodation therefore it costs them more than £100 anyway. This format means they have a fairer tournament as it is double elim all the way through. This can be done in one day without too much organisation. Also, they would be able to find an event near them and drive to it. So minimal travel expenses and no need for accommodation. Where they to qualify for the final stages, the money's good enough to warrant some extra travel and max of one nights acoommodation.

Sounds good-where and when!!!
Any thoughts on how you will divide our great country into 8 regions?

As I said it's just an idea. I thought it would be good for players to put their heads together and find a tournament format that made everyone happy. Then maybe we could have a better tournament structure in this country

in my case, i live in the south, this w/e we have the big event in liverpool but due to work i would have to leave at about 6am to get there by train or go the night b4, not easy and not in a fit state to do well, i say roll on harrow in april, guys...to many events up north for us southerners to get the time to attend, and at this point, pool is just my hobby not my living.

This format was done by myself in 2005 - The APN 9-ball Invitational.
We had £10,000 guaranteed prize money - entry was only £30.00 and the finals were in a 4star hotel.
I didn't get the runners, however, if it was promoted now I think it could be achieved

There was a time not so long ago when the south of england had the monopoly on pool tournaments. It was very rare that an event would be played up north or in the north west, its about time this has happened. Travelling down south is a lot more expensive for northeners than travelling north is for southeners.

It sounds like regional qualifiers would work for everyone. Can anyone tell me where the best clubs are in the UK?? We all want good facilities right?

How about these for the 8 regional locations.
Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London, Brighton

But most of the players in Scotland are from the central belt, so I would pick Rileys Stirling or Styx in Kirkcaldy above Glasgow for any Scottish tournament. Inverness has a less than one year old club with 18 pool tables, but it is as far as you can go in the north for a game...any further north and you're in sheep shagging territory.... fasteddy, if you post something on the Scottish site (www.scottish9ball.com) I'm sure there would be quite a few interested.... ----------------- Every man dies, not every man truly lives...
