Hi,

I was dissapointed to see the quality of the commentary in places in Sky Sports coverage of the World 9 Ball Championships.

I am not here to have a rant, but Jim Wych should know that the tournament was not winner breaks from the end of the group stages. He was not even corrected immediately, and even as a player who has played in tournaments in the past I was left a bit confused exactly what the format was.

Another mistake was that they said Alex Pagulyan was the second Phillipino player to win a World Championship. Actually new champ Ronnie Alcano is as Alex was representing Canada at the time he won.

Good points: Pat Holtz on the commentary really knew his stuff and said the right things.

These things are small, but I think certain levels of commentary is required in order to be taken seriously as a sport. The guy who anchored from London clearly had no idea what he was talking about. Please do research!! I'm sure they are very well paid and they are sometimes winging it. That said, can't wait for the next one!

I think the points are fair, however. Im not having a moan because we had the event LIVE and on delay for 10 straigh days. Thats fantastic for us pool fans. If we didnt get anything, you'd all be begging SKY to bring it back to "how it was" :-)

Not having ago, I like you points, just stating why I dont complain. Oh, and for the record I like Steve Davis as a commentator. :-)

Fair points! I like live pool, as do we all. I am merely stating that I think Sky earn enough to research a little and ensure it is saying the right things! It's not hard!

Davis is a good commentator, I agree. But I'm a little sick of seeing him constantly on TV lol

Cheers Mal. :-)

I really enjoyed my stint in the commentary box as it's something I've always wanted to do but never been given the opportunity until now.

I actually nearly turned down the opportunity as I thought the Scottish accent would be too tough for others to understand but I gave it a go anyway.

I've had a lot of good feedback from many people over there including Barry Hearn, Steve Davis, Nick Halling and the director from ESPN, so that was very pleasing to hear.

It was very easy for me to comment on the game as I've played pool for over 20yrs and know what shots to play and where they should get correct position of the q-ball (pity I cant play as well as I talk :-) ).

It felt as if I had been working alongside Jerry Forsyth for many years and it was a pleasure to meet and work with him.

Hopefully it wont be too long before they give me another chance to commentate at other events.

Pat, first, I wanna give you my sincerest congrats on getting to the 1/4s in the WPC, I for one am proud of your achievement and also glad to see a Scotsman there :)

I can vouch for what you mean on meeting Jerry Forsythe, I had the good honour in meeting with him, whislt he was watching Johnny Archer's match after the TV Schedules had finished, as he was taking pics and reporting to Pool & Billiards Magazine also and as you say, he has incredible knowledge and insight to the game and a gentleman to chat with and I'm glad that you had the great honour and oppertunity to work with him :)

I hope that someday soon, I'll get a chance to play you a race to 11, but time can only reveal the answer to that one, but either way, you did an awesome job in the commentary as well as in the event itself and I can only say to you to keep up the good work.

Willie
