Not sure weather thats a good idea?!! Its good as it will boost the prize funds but the flip side to this is not everybody can afford £45 so you will get less entries and the prize fund will basically stay the same! I personally would rather see 90+ entries at £35 than have 50+ entries at £45!! Agree?? Obviously in a perfect world if we had sponsorship for each BPPPA Event then we wouldnt have this debate!!!!!!!
Hope to see you all in Nottingham 18/19 Nov,

                                 Mark.

I can't make the Nottingham, already agree 2 play another event.

I agree with you Mark over the increase in entry fee it would be better to keep it at £35 and have 90+ players instead of 50+ players at the new price. If you notice on the flyer it's the Dynamic Nottingham Open.

Perhaps the BPPPA could be more the the EPT & the Euro Tour and have fewer events spread over the calender, but with slightly higher entry fees which would then reflected in the prize funds being bigger.
If the Euro Tour can have the success it has with only 7 events per season surely the BPPPA can do the the same in the UK.

I know I'm going to struggle to make every event in the coming season because of the increase, but I really want to comeback on the BPPPA so will have to try and find a local company to sponsor me.

I would really like to know whether the prize money structure will be revised as a result of the increase in fees? Presuming (and this definitely is an assumption) that the number of entrants remains constant despite the increase in entry fees I would certainly hope that the additional revenue would be used to pay further down the field and not to increase the top end prize monies.

Assuming a field of 75 there would be an additional £750 in the prize fund, which would certainly make paying down to the last 32 feasible. If on the other hand any increased revenue is simply used to make the top end prize money higher (presumably to increase the appeal of events to higher end players) then this really would be a retrograde step in my view. The core of the tour players are not the ones who make it to the last 16 or better but should still benefit from increases in THEIR entry fee. Otherwise this just becomes a further tax / redistribution of wealth from the poorer (players that is).

Again this is an area where we need some information and communication in order to make informed decisions about our participation. I would like to know the following;

(a) Why have the entry fees been increased? e.g. is it to increase the prize fund in the absence of external sponsorship deals
(b) Assuming no impact on number of entrants as a result of the increased fees how will the increased prize money be distributed? i.e. in order to increase the prize money paid to the top 16, or in order to pay more of the field e.g. down to the last 32.
(c) what input will the BPPPA membership have to decision making in this regard?

One for Mr President perhaps.

Regards,

RT

Totally agree with all 3 above posts. Increasing entry costs is likely to reduce entry's. Unless there is a chance of winning in the last 32 but I can't see that happening.

I know a lot of decent players who could compete at the BPPPA (reach last 32 or 16 etc) but its the price involved. Instead they play on the APN - which is likely to be the only winner if prices go up.

Increasing the entry fee is likely to put off new comers and may deter existing players. The only 'positive' is there might be more quality players chasing a slightly higher cash prize £1,200 instead of £1,000?

Mark Gray put it best - do you have a small quality field paying more (£45) or a large mixed field paying what they do now £35? Because the prize money would end up being the same.

Its a very very small game, we should be encouraging more players to 'Have a go' . I don't know - see what the president says....

Was this increase in entry fee's discussed at a players council meeting? Maybe one of the members of the council could fill us in. I think this increase combined with the massive membership fees is a step in the wrong direction for the BPPPA. I can see entry numbers reducing and the amount of paid members also reducing unless there are some real benefits to being a member.

It is my understanding that all the Players Council members have been consulted. I certainly have. I spent an hour with el presidente discussing this.

The increase is to allow a larger prize fund along with payments down to last 32. Nothing worse than spending an extra night in a hotel only to lose your first match at the last 32 stage with no financial reward.

I don't think a £10 increase would put off many potential players. What we do have to remember is this is a professional tour. Paying £45 is hardly damage central in the wallet department to play in a professional cue sport event. Other amounts were discussed, believe me.

As Mark has pointed out, in the perfect world an all powerful and rich sponsor would sweep us off our feet and these measures would not have to be taken. Alas, these are the cards we have been dealt to date. Until that changes, we have to make do.

Simon
