Starting tomorrow is the 2006 World Professional 9-Ball Pool Championships...... if you didn't know I tried to keep all posts in one thread last year so hopefully it can happen again this year, just to keep the forums tidy, and so we all know where we can find updates and gossip. Good luck to the Brits! I will start the thread off, who is going to win the Championship? ----------------- Chris @ Pro9[ This message was edited by: Buckster_uk on 2006-11-03 18:19 ]

wow chris, is it 2007 already ? ok here goes.......... I'm going to stick my neck out and say a Filipino will win the WPC this year, home support and familiar surroundings will be a big advantage. I don't think it will be Efren because of the enormous pressure and when I saw him a few weeks ago, he looked tired, infact he spent a couple of days in hospital. I would like to see Manalo to step up to the plate along with compatriots Bustamante, Pagulayan and Orcullo. Another Filipino with real pedigree who has every chance of success is Luat. He had a great US Open so he will fear no one.
If not a Filipino then I can see Cory Deuel having a good tournament.
From a value and betting sense, Roman Hybler is a big price. Im not saying he is going to win but if he reaches the latter stages, you can lay off your bet in-running.
Will a Brit win? Well, we can all wear our hearts on our sleeves and say yes but quite frankly it may be too much for the likes of Hundal, Peach, Majid, Appleton et al especially in a feed of this much quality and experience. Several contributing factors like the partisan crowd and climate may not favour the Brits either. Yes you may say a lot of them have played in Asia before but this is not Taipei, this is Manila, a whole new atmosphere altogether. But never the less, I like them to prove me wrong.

I tend to disagree, our top boys are as good as a lot of the World's Best, I can see a Brit or two having a very strong tournament (Quarter Finals at least).

I was smiling back in July when Hohmann potted the winning ball in the States. (£10 ew 33-1) I wasn't smiling when I checked my Stan James account on the Monday morning to find I had only gone and clicked on the wrong ****** comp :-| So my money, albeit by mistake is on Hohmann.

Richard, are you sure it wasn't a different game Efren was playing?
They do play 2/3 games per day.

Well I presume that from around 1pm onwards they will have to be replaying games as in Manila it is going to be 11pm or something.
Pretty sure you had highlights of games last year.
The ones in the morning are live, but in the afternoon they will be highlights.
PS Well done Tony!

The full live coverage starts from Monday. It was the same last year - a couple of live games on the Saturday and Sunday with delayed coverage of the others with live coverage from the Monday. You need to remember that we are getting the type of coverage we are getting because of the 8-hour time difference while out in Asia, they're getting it all live so the commentators are likely to mention matches past to the Asian TV audience. Sky are simply broadcasting their coverage. Well done Tony and Darren - good results both. Let's hope the rest of the UK contingent can keep going! And to Pat Holtz, good luck tomorrow against Parica on the TV table! Get right intae him! Best wishes thecardman www.scottish9ball.com The Cardman's Blog

I am not sure Pete, right now it is 8pm or so in Manila, it certainly will not be live coverage through until 4pm, I doubt there will be more than 2 live matches per day.
I would of preferred delayed evening coverage rather than all day coverage, especially as I now unfotunately work lol.
