Hello,
Thanks very much for posting the schedule. I'm looking forward to it already. Have they not announced the TV times for the Sunday session yet then Shir?

I'm wondering what the "scotch trebles" that they've extended the competition to accomodate will be like (it's now 4 days rather than 3). From what I can gather this is going to be a first for professional pool. Should certainly be interesting!

Thanks,
Chris.

haven't heard anything about the sunday yet..
But...
One of the hotels I've used for the Rotterdam Open came back with an offer..
Sounds good..
But... working on getting it a bit cheaper...
Hotel is about 15 minutes walking distance...
By metro it's only one stop!!!
And the hotel is on the good side of the river! (City centre!)

Whilst on the subject of the Mosconi Cup. I've just finished reading the drunken adventures of my hero Jimmy White. Where one of the chapters was about the Mosconi cup a few years back in Essex with a loud crowd. The americans were slightly ahead before the Europeans started surging a head with wins from Alex Higgins and Daryl 'Razzle dazzle' Peach amongst others. 15-12 to europe and then the Americans came back. The crowd screaming 'Beat the septics, beat the septics!' The yanks then levelled the match with a thrilling comeback. Jimmy white - man of the hour took us to victory. I'd have love to have seen that. Is it on video?

Maybe Mr Razzle Dazzle would remember that night?

PS: A few pages later Jimmy was written about in the sunday times as reaching a low point, when he was beaten by an unknown Mark Gray.

There's 1 problem I have with the Mosconi Cup and that is with the people who created the event, not because of the name but because of the discipline used in the event, but even saying that, it's not so much a problem, just a point of view :)

Willie Mosconi as most of us know, played straight pool, that's what he is best known for, as well as the trickshots and generally good all round ability that he had, and so I honestly believe that if they wanted to have a tournament, that was a tribute to Willie, then it should've been a Straight Pool event, with the winning team being the first to 1,000 balls or similar, like they played in the original world championship challenge matches, that they played in the days of the true legendary players of those era, but of course, they selected 9ball because it's a much shorter and faster game, just to suit the TV companies as well as the fans, but personally, I think that if you're going to name a tournament after a player, then it wshould be in respect of the ability and discipline, that the player is/was known best for :), e.g. if there was a tournament to be named after efren, it should be an all round tournament of at least 4 disciplines because there's quite at least 4x disciplines in pool that Efren is known for being exceptionally good at :)

Anyway, that's my 5 minute rant over with :) lol

I don't care who wins, because they're all great players and so it'll be a good event event, reguarless of who wins :)

Willie

Hello Wizard,
Yes it's even more strange as Mr Mosconi himself apparently hated 9 ball! The cup was first played the year after his death so it was seen as a good way to pay tribute to a legend I think.
Personally I really don't think a long straight pool match would make great TV for the masses whereas in my household even the non-pool fans love the Mosconi Cup as it is now because of the "us versus them" feeling you can only get from a Europe vs USA team event!

Thanks,
Chris.

Yep. I know alot of people who dont follow pool that LOVE the Mosconi Cup. Its how me and my brother started to play the game actually. We watched it for a few ywars, and always loved it and then found a club and from there, we are both nine ball fans and players.

The Mosconi Cup is brilliant. Long may it continue, and lets hope the Europeans can dominate for the next few years!

Very nice,

Trouble is, I don't think that David speaks Italian!!!

Volare, originally sung by Dean Martin

Remember him Dave?? Must be about your era

Having listened to it again, i think it is a made up language but is definitely mor Italian than Spanish.
Here is an excerpt from the original song, see if you agree.

Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me
Volare, oh oh, e cantare, oh oh oh oh
