This is taken from www.empirepooltour.com FAQ's:
Q: Will the EPT ever hold events for 9ball, straight pool, or any other pool game appart from 8ball?
A: No, the EPT is dedicated to 8ball.
Judging by this answer, I cant see it happening!

It seems that 8 ball is the future of pool. More so in Europe and USA than Asia anyway.
More of the public are familiar with "spots and stripes" so it is easier to promote and bring in interest.
The IPT will generate interest in 8 ball (via TV airings) and more non pool players will take up the game. And when these players want to play on a tour in the UK, they will go to non other than the EPT.
So Daryl and Mark have got it right, and I definately understand why they plan to stick strictly with 8 ball.

I wonder why an Asian bought the IPT when the major game in Asia is 9ball. Maybe he wants to change it! Just a thought! -----------------

I disagree with you there..........9 Ball in Asia has only become popular in recent years due to Sky/ESPN coverage in that part of the world. Also, part of that was when Reyes won the WPC. Pre-dominately 8-Ball has always been the game most people in Asia have played. After WW2 and the Vietnam war, the Americans left a huge influence in countries like the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Korea etc.......The G.I's were the ones to teach the locals the game od stripes and solids. I've spent a lot of time in that part of the World and pre 1999, not many people had heard of '9-Ball'. ........I bet not many people in this country knew the game of 9-Ball before the evolution of Sky Sports.
