Not wishing to take anything away from Jasmin Ouschan who is a fantastic young player, I have to comment on the World Rankings, ( I am sure that I have done this before) I really can't believe that this is a true reflection or clasification of the best players in the world. According to the WPA website, the rankings are complied according to 18 events, some are dedicated to Women, some to Men and some to both sexes. This is the current list: WPA World Straight Pool Championships Predator Florida Open Enjoypool.com Championships - Men's Division Japan Open 2005 - Men's Division World 8-Ball Championships 2005 World 9-Ball Championships for Men Japan Open Amagasaki City Japan BCA US - Open 2005 - Men's Division WC 8-Ball Fujairah, UAE World 9-Ball Championships Rankweil, AustriaEuro-Tour Frauenfeld, Switzerland Euro-Tour Weert, Netherlands 2005 Euro-Tour Weert Netherlands 2006 Euro-Tour Rankweil, Austria Enjoypool.com Championships - Women's Division World 9-Ball Championships Women 2006 Japan Open 2005 - Women's Division BCA US - Open 2005 - Womens Division Not sure what the Rankweil tournament is ?? Some of the other tournaments are by invitation only such as the BCA Open?, (now named the Enjoypool.com Championships) and the 64 runner WC 8-Ball Championships for example (Which had 25 Europeans participating) European men have a definite advantage as 4 of thirteen events are Eurotours and ths is reflected in the Men's Rankings. Anyone else have an opinion or a suggestion as to how we could have a true World ranking system. [ This message was edited by: malaguista on 2006-08-30 08:16 ]

That's a comprehensive list Navigator. I would cut out all events that are by invitation, if a tournament is not open to everyone, it should not be included in a World ranking. Big Dave, can't you think beyond 9 Ball ???????

Rankings should be a reflction of form therefore all players should be in all countable events. Malaguista is right when he says Europe has an advantage - there are more European events. Good idea for a dedicated world tour by now though!!! [ This message was edited by: The_Teach on 2006-08-31 15:22 ]

I say don't have a world ranking system. Unless there are multi tournaments in multi formats, all over the world, equally, (which would take more than a year to do) why not just have Tour Rankings (as there is now). Country rankings in 8ball, 9ball, straight pool etc, Then we could all argue over who is the best and this will make a great buzz when the respective no1's clash in the big events. (pretty close to what happens now, without some BS world ranking) JMO. Jon. -----------------
