I am the first to admit I do not know much about cue maintenance, so I ask the knowledgable Pro9 members to submit their ideas and thoughts on how to correctly clean and maintain a pool cue. My shaft has gone very green after not really cleaning it correctly, and am looking to restore it back to its original white colour. Dave has said the best idea would be to "turn" the cue, finely sanding it down, and also burnishing the shaft with leather. What do people suggest to get greenish shafts back to their original colour? ...Apart from buying an extra shaft ----------------- Chris @ Pro9

I had some of this shaft cleaning stuff. Got it from the WPM 2005.
A bottle of Cue Doctor shaft cleaning Cream. A tin of Cue Doctor shaft wax. Some Q-Glide Shaft papers. And some Q-Glide Silk.
1. Finely paper the shaft once until it feels smooth. 2. Rub in the Cue Doctor Cream with a non fiber cloth and really drag it up and down the shaft (and get the ferrule too, it quickly gets it back to pure white and removes chalk from tiny scratches) 3. Leave to dry for 3 minutes. 4. Finely paper the shaft again with shaftpapers. 5. Rub the excess dust off the shaft with the non fiber cloth. 6. Rub the smoothing wax into the shaft evenly. 7. leave for 5 minutes. 8. Add some Q-Glide Silk
Thats what I used to do anyway. But I had a slightly treated/coated shaft.
Don't know much about this but it worked for me. Lasted a while. But I also wore a glove!

PS. Using lighter fluid on a sanded shaft or any wood with a revealed grain, will make it go a yellow colour after time as far as i know!

My opinion Guys is this: I would only really recomend sanding once in a blue moon as the only way that works is by taking a layer off your shaft. Ive seen the long term effect of these with a meucci shaft ending up rather thin to say the least,(do you remember Deans Cue Dave Mc ) I personally use Cue Silk once a week i cleans the ferrule up nice to it doesnt completly clean the colour of the cue to a finish like new. But the Feel of the Cue is as good as new. Hope that helps. Tricky
