I've just seen a 9-Ball Pool tournament advertised on UK8Ball and they're playing it on Supreme 8 Ball tables...

What do you think? Would anyone be interested in playing?

A penny for your thoughts.

There is an entire 9ball league played in Norwich area that is played on English pool tables - not sure how it will go down

I saw that too, in Nottingham. I'd probably play just for a laugh if it were local.

They do 9-ball leagues on small bar tables in America. It's actually a far more tactical game on the small tables. But they would play single games like you do in normal pub team. So extra pressure.

They took it very seriously. They all had predators and top notch kit. It was also handicapped on how many balls you potted. Poor only needing to pot 4 or 5 and if you didn't reach your total in one rack you would play another rack? It was slightly surreal.

I've got a picture but don't know how you upload them

we have a 9all leage in bangkok on the 8ft tables, the good players never miss but its fun and the girls stand a chance, cos the 9 can fall at anytime, its now got 3/400 players.
the best small tournament i ever played in was an 8ball on 8ft tables in japan, ONE frame knockout, winner take all, luckily i won but boy its nearve wrecking, i think it was about 1000yen, however much that is

I was going to run a weekly tournament in coventry a while a go with 9 ball on 6ft supremes. It was just to much of an output to by the amount of balls that would have been needed to have a tournament of any real size.

it could be a good thing if this happens more around the UK. I know there is alot of talk about how 9 ball isnt that well known in UK, this might help the sport to become more accessible and then hopefully more people will start playing on the bigger tables.

Don’t tinker too much, there’s always a danger you then create a different code of 9-ball that is accepted within the UK but nowhere else.

I’m guessing, but isn’t that how the English version of pool developed in the seventies as some sort of bridge between American pool and snooker to make it more attractive to the drinking public in the UK?

Whoever or whichever tour takes up the job of promoting 9-ball over the next few years it would be in their interest to stay true to the accepted rules and equipment. Surely you shouldn’t dilute the uniqueness of the game you are trying to promote.
