YES THATS RIGHT 9,000 ENTRIES!
YES I KNOW 9,000 ENTRIES ISNT POSSIBLE, SO IN OTHER WORDS THE PRIZE MONEY STATED IS A LOAD OF TRASH!!!
JUST LIKE ALL THE COMPS THAT KEEP GETTING POSTED ON HERE STATING £500 WINNER, £800 WINNER ETC ETC
THEY ALL ARE SUBJECT TO 64 ENTRIES ETC, SO BASICALLY THEY ARE REALLY GOING TO BE ABOUT £200 FOR THE WINNER.
ANYONE CAN PUT AN EVENT ON STATING "SUBJECT TO ENTRIES" AS I HAVE ABOVE.
PLEASE REFRAIN FROM DOING THIS AND SAY IT HOW IT IS.
This was a statement by MALAKA Promotions.

The Barnsley 8 ball open last year advertised £500 guaranteed to the winner subject to 32 entries. We paid £600 to the winner. This information is vital to encourage top players to take the event seriously. I do believe it's vital that your required number of entries is realistic and on the low side if possible so additional entries and prize fund is a bonus. Shir is organising a bigger and better Barnsley open for later this year (9 ball this time) and I am sure there will be another guaranteed prize fund quoted on the flyer. What's more I'm sure the guarantee will be met, there will be more entries than the minimum number required and everyone will be happy because it will be a special event organised to the highest standard. So in answer to your request...... NO we won't refrain from doing this but YES we will continue to tell it like it is. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-07-20 19:06 ]

lol......check the dress code out....Blue trousers!! Sounds like D'vali will be at home in this event! Seriously though, Riggers and Shir are correct, and the EPT had guaranteed prize money. I can see your point to some extent though nearlyman.....there are a lt of small events popping up these days that are not guaranteed money. Europe events are the way forward for me.....always guaranteed.....they have been where ever i have played anyway!!!!!!! -----------------

I can verify that that, as I played in it and it was a great tournament, and I'm 100% sure that the other events that Riggers, Dazzler, etc have mentioned, were were guarranteed also Willie

I think the biggest problem with 90% of the tournaments in the uk is that the money is not guaranteed. The event that Shir did in Barnsley was a great success because she was realistic about the prize fund (BASE ON 32 ENTRYS) which she got with ease and the prize money was covered. The rest of the tournaments that i have seen in the uk on this site in the last few months are total fantasy (PRIZE FUND BASED ON 64 ENTRYS). Players travel the length of the country to enter these tournaments and when they get there realise that the prize fund is a 1/4 of what it should be,even if they win the event they just about break even after expenses. The tournaments in europe are GUARANTEED PRIZE MONEY even if there are only 5 runners, this is why they get so many entrys and players can work out where they need to get to to cover there expenses. I think it would be better to say all money taken in paid out rather than advertise crazy prize funds.

I think 9000 entries is realistic for an event of this magnitude Trouble may be with only 16 tables and 5 days to play it!!!

You shouldn't put down guaranteed prize money and subject to an amount of entries advertising any comp - this is misleading IMO. You either guarantee a certain amount (EPT) or say "all monies in paid out" as Worthy has stated. I have been around playing for so many years and this is not new, it's been going on for years in the small table game. [ This message was edited by: devil on 2007-07-20 22:32 ]

I agree with Worthy too. The point I was making about the Barnsley open is that we were not guaranteeing the prize fund for exactly the reason you guys say. We were guaranteeing the winners prize would be at least £500 based on a very realistic number of entries and the fact we had £250 sponsorship. For the next one it should be even more popular being a 2-day 9 ball event and the fact Shir is arranging some neat extras to make it really good value, entertaining and worthwhile having a night over. Sponsorship towards the prize fund is also a good bet so I expect the winners prize mentioned will be based on a higher number of entries. The point is it needs to be thought out fairly and be realistic so not to deceive people. Now then Pat.... might we be seeing you for this one? And the special event too? Ok if every pro9 member gets every person in your pool club to bring 5 mates who in turn bring another five mates, then we might just be able to get 7 or 8,000 but sayin we have to wear blue trousers - well that's just daft!!
